  4. This README file contains information pertaining to the
  5. installation, configuration, and operation of the Parallel
  6. Port NDIS MAC Driver, PMAC.OS2, and its related files.
  7.

  9. The PMAC package consists of:
  10.  
  11.   o LICENCE.TXT - The license agreement.
  12.   o README.PMA  - This README file
  13.   o PMAC.OS2    - The Parallel Port NDIS device driver
  14.   o PMAC.MSG    - The message file for the driver
  15.   o PMAC.EXE    - A utility that will connect/disconnect
  16.                   the driver to/from the parallel port.

  18. The PMAC driver is an NDIS (Network Device Interface
  19. Specification) compliant device driver that enables the
  20. Parallel port to emulate a NIC (Network Interface Card).
  21.  
  22. It will enable you to connect 2 PC's via the parallel port
  23. to establish a point-to-point "network" using existing
  24. protocol stacks.  The driver looks like an Ethernet
  25. adapter to the protocol stack and uses a "LapLink" cable
  26. for the connection.

  28. To use this driver you will need 2 PC's with OS/2, a
  29. "LapLink" parallel cable, and an NDIS compliant protocol
  30. stack (e.g.  a pair of machines running:  OS/2 Peer, LAN
  31. Server/Requester, LAN Requester in peer mode, TCP/IP,
  32. etc.)

  35. Installation/Configuration

  38. The PMAC driver can be installed and configured using MPTS or
  39. LAPS.  Simply install the driver as if it was a LAN Adapter.
  40. Re-boot the 2 machines, connect them with the proper cable and
  41. you are done.  If you plan on using other devices attached to
  42. the LPT port (e.g. a printer) then you will need to add the
  43. paramater /IRQ to the printer statement in the config.sys.  The
  44. line should look like:

  46. BASEDEV=PRINT01.SYS /IRQ
  47.  or
  48. BASEDEV=PRINT02.SYS /IRQ

  51. Operation:
  52. ----------
  53. Once the PC's are re-booted they are ready for networking.  If
  54. you need to use the LPT port for any device other than the
  55. PMAC, then you need to disconnect the PMAC from the LPT by
  56. using the PMAC.EXE utility.

  58. PMAC.EXE is a utility that will connect/disconnect the driver
  59. to/from the LPT port.  To release the LPT port, change to the
  60. IBMCOM directory and enter:  "PMAC -R" and the LPT port will be
  61. released and usable by another device.  When you are ready to
  62. reconnect the PMAC, enter:  "PMAC -C".
