  5. BACKGROUND:
  6.  
  7. The 3COM 3C562 Lan+Modem PC Card requires that the modem
  8. function and the LAN function share one hardware interrupt.
  9. The IBM COM driver for OS/2, however, takes exclusive control
  10. of the interrupt, making interrupt sharing impossible. For
  11. this reason, a 3C562 Card installed under OS/2 can have only
  12. one function active at a time.
  13.  
  14. 3SWITCH is an OS/2 application that switches the active
  15. function of the card between LAN and MODEM. It runs after
  16. the system boots and lets you switch to the desired function
  17. immediately without rebooting the system.

  20. ENVIRONMENTS SUPPORTED:
  21.  
  22. 3SWITCH supports several different NDIS and ODI environments:
  23.  
  24.  - Systems with only the IBM LAN Requester installed.
  25.  
  26.  - Systems with only the Novell Netware Requester installed.
  27.  
  28.  - Systems with both ODI and ODINSUP.SYS drivers installed
  29.    (ODINSUP environments).
  30.  
  31.  - Systems with both NDIS and ODI2NDI drivers installed
  32.    (NDI2ODI environments).

  35. USING 3SWITCH:
  36.  
  37. To change operating modes with 3SWITCH, type 3SWITCH and press RETURN.
  38. If the card is in LAN mode, it will change to MODEM. If the card is
  39. in MODEM mode, it will change to LAN.

  41. 3SWITCH recognizes four command line parameters:
  42.  
  43. 1. L (LAN): Type 3SWITCH LAN (or 3SWITCH L) and press RETURN
  44.    to always switch to LAN mode.
  45.  
  46. 2. M (MODEM):Type 3SWITCH MODEM (or 3SWITCH M) and press RETURN
  47.    to always switch to MODEM mode.
  48.  
  49. 3. S (STATUS): Type 3SWITCH STATUS (or 3SWITCH S) and press RETURN
  50.    to display the currently active mode and the card configuration information.

  52. 4. H (HELP): Type 3SWITCH HELP (or 3SWITCH H) and press RETURN
  53.    to display the help text.

  56. RESTRICTIONS:
  57.  
  58.  - For both NDIS and ODI drivers to work properly, the COM.SYS driver needs
  59.    to be loaded beforehand. Or else, the system may hang.  Please check your
  60.    config.sys file, and see if the device=\..\ 3CELPC.SYS (OS2 ODI driver) or ELPC3X.OS2
  61.    (OS2 NDIS driver) is after the device=\..\COM.SYS.

  63.  - When using 3SWITCH, you can invoke only one instance at a time. You
  64.    can change functions freely, but do not run 3SWITCH again until after
  65.    any previous 3SWITCH operation completes.
  66.  
  67.  - While switching from LAN to MODEM in an ODI environment, it takes
  68.    about 20 seconds for the system to shut down the network connection.
  69.    During this time, you can change to or open other applications, but
  70.    you may not invoke a new command prompt or open a new command window.
