  2. Network Drivers Installation Notes

  5.           WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS v3.11 AND
  6.             MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORKING
  7.  
  8.  
  9. This document describes how to configure the LAN+Modem card
  10. for use with Windows for Workgroups v3.11 and Microsoft 
  11. Windows Networking. These procedures are also described in 
  12. the EtherLink III LAN+Modem PC Card User Guide, Chapter 3,
  13. Setup for Windows.
  14.  
  15. If you are going to install the Novell NetWare client in 
  16. addition to the Microsoft Windows networking client, you must 
  17. install the Novell NetWare client first.
  18.  
  19. Microsoft Windows for Workgroups (WFW) v3.11 does not include
  20. internal support for the Plug and Play standard.  Since NDIS 
  21. 3.1 (32 BIT) Drivers operate only in Plug and Play environments,
  22. you cannot operate the LAN+Modem card with the included 32-bit
  23. driver. To ensure support for Windows for Workgroups v3.11, 
  24. 3Com includes a 16-bit NDIS 2.0 driver. This driver offers full
  25. support for Windows for Workgroups, but may affect system 
  26. performance. To resolve this deficiency with Windows for
  27. Workgroups 3.11, you may want to upgrade your operating system
  28. to Windows 95.  Check with your MIS department or system 
  29. manager before doing this.
  30.  
  31. NOTE: The following instructions assume you have not installed
  32.       any other network adapter in the machine. If networking 
  33.       has already been installed, some of the instructions will
  34.       not apply or appear accurate. Consult with your MIS 
  35.       department for further instructions.
  36.  
  37. Before installing the network driver, you should gather the
  38. following information and have it handy for supplying 
  39. information to the setup dialog boxes:
  40.  
  41.       - Transport used in the Microsoft Windows Network 
  42.         (typically IPX/SPX)
  43.       - The Frame type used by the Microsoft Windows Network
  44.         (typically 802.3)
  45.       - Name of the NT Server domain or Windows 95/WFW 3.11
  46.         Workgroup to which you belong.
  47.       - The latest versions of the Card and Socket Services
  48.         installed on your machine. Check with your computer
  49.         manufacturer if you are not sure.
  50.  
  51. You will need to have the following software components
  52. accessible and ready to use:
  53.  
  54.       - Windows for Workgroups v3.11 installation files (either
  55.         on hard disk, floppy diskettes, or CD)
  56.       - The EtherDisk diskette that came with your LAN+Modem
  57.         card
  58.  
  59. Installing a New Client
  60.  
  61. 1.  From Windows, open the Network group. Double click on 
  62.     the Network Setup icon to open the Network Setup dialog
  63.     box. If networking has not been installed, you will see 
  64.     nothing in the network drivers window. If it looks like
  65.     networking has been installed, ignore this procedure and
  66.     use Installing an Additional Client, below.

  68. 2.  Click on the Networks icon to open the Networks dialog 
  69.     box. At the left edge of the dialog box, you will see 
  70.     three radio buttons, describing the type of network support
  71.     that Windows offers.  If you see the name of another
  72.     network client listed on the bottom of this window, see
  73.     Installing an Additional Client, below.

  75. 3.  Select Install Microsoft Windows Network and click OK.
  76.  
  77. 4.  Click Drivers to open the Network Drivers dialog box.
  78.  
  79. 5.  Click Add Adapter to display a list of possible choices for
  80.     adapter. Select Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter and
  81.     click OK.
  82.  
  83. 6.  At the Install Driver prompt, insert the EtherDisk in the
  84.     floppy drive and click OK. Select the 3Com 3C562 EtherLink
  85.     III LAN+Modem PC Card and click OK.  You will see the
  86.     following added to the list of network drivers:

  88.       3Com 3C562 EtherLink III+Modem PC Card adapter [NDIS2]
  89.  
  90. 7.  Click CLOSE. When the Network Setup Dialog box reopens, it
  91.     will show the 3C562 card in the Network Drivers window.
  92.     Click OK.
  93.  
  94. 8.  Supply the information requested in the Microsoft Windows
  95.     Network Names dialog box. Your MIS department or network
  96.     manager should be able to supply the information you need.
  97.     When the information is complete, click OK.

  99. 9.  The installer will request various disks for installation.
  100.     When finished, you will be asked to reboot the system. You
  101.     will have network access when the system restarts. Refer
  102.     to your Windows Manual for instructions on using Microsoft
  103.     Windows Networking.

  106. Installing an Additional Client
  107.  
  108. If there is NetWare (ODI) or other client already installed on
  109. your system, follow this procedure:
  110.  
  111. 1.  From Windows, open the Network group. Double click on the
  112.     Network Setup icon to open the Network Setup dialog box. 
  113.  
  114. 2.  Write down the name of the client listed on the last line of
  115.     the Networks dialog box. (You will need this name later.)
  116.  
  117. 3.  Click Install Microsoft Windows Network. At the bottom of
  118.     the small window under the selection that you just made,
  119.     you will see other selections. Click Other.
  120.  
  121. 4.  Find the name of the client you noted in Step 2, select it,
  122.     and click OK.

  124. 5.  Click Drivers to open the Network Drivers dialog box.
  125.  
  126. 6.  Click Add Adapter to display a list of possible choices for
  127.     adapter. Select Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter and 
  128.     click OK.

  130. 7.  At the Install Driver prompt, insert the EtherDisk in the
  131.     floppy drive and click OK. Select the 3Com 3C562 EtherLink
  132.     III LAN+Modem PC Card and click OK.  You will see the
  133.     following added to the list of network drivers:

  135.     3Com 3C562 EtherLink III+Modem PC Card adapter [NDIS2]
  136.  
  137. 8.  Click CLOSE. When the Network Setup Dialog box reopens,
  138.     it will show the 3C562 card in the Network Drivers window.
  139.     Click OK.

  141. 9.  A Windows Setup dialogue box will open to alert you to the
  142.     presence of files for the existing client. Select No if you
  143.     want to maintain your access to the other network. Windows
  144.     may ask this question several times, depending on how many
  145.     references to the previous network it finds. Select No
  146.     each time.
  147.  
  148. 10. The installer will request various disks for installation.
  149.     When finished, you will be asked to reboot the system. You
  150.     will have network access when the system restarts. Refer to
  151.     your Windows Manual for instructions on using Microsoft
  152.     Windows Networking.
