  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. The PMSysLev Utility ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  4. The PMSysLev Utility provides you with a VX-REXX dialog that will locate all 
  5. SYSLEVEL information within your system and display it in an OS/2 notebook 
  6. format. This can be particularly useful when trying to determine if a certain 
  7. level of maintenance needs to be applied to your system. 
  8.  
  9. Note:  If you have more than one verion of OS/2 on your hard drive and it can 
  10. be accessed through the currently active partition, this utility's search 
  11. mechanism will find those files as well! 
  12.

  14. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1. Using the PMSysLev Utility ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  15.  
  16. The operation of this utility is simple:  Click on the icon that was created 
  17. during the installation, and this utility will invoke the OS/2 SYSLEVEL command 
  18. in the background. This will run for different amounts of time on different 
  19. systems. A "please wait" message is displayed during this portion of the 
  20. utility's processing.

  22. After all of the data has been obtained and processed, the message will be 
  23. cleared and a notebook will be created.  Each of the pages contains information 
  24. for each product that was found during the search.  The pages are listed based 
  25. on the results of the SYSLEVEL command; however, they are sorted by directory, 
  26. path, and file name.  The notebook tabs are the file extensions of the 
  27. products.

  29. The following information is presented: 
  30.  
  31.      Title 
  32.      Location 
  33.      Version 
  34.      Component ID 
  35.      Type (if any) 
  36.      Current CSD level 
  37.      Previous CSD level 
  38.  
  39.  You can manuever through the notebook by using the arrows located in the 
  40.  lower, right-hand portion of the notebook page. Alternatively, you can scroll 
  41.  through the pages using the PageUp and PageDown keys.  After you have clicked 
  42.  once on any of the notebook pages, the Home key will display the first 
  43.  notebook tab and the End key will display the last notebook tab.

  45.  If you want to view the notebook tabs sorted alphabetically, click on Options, 
  46.  select Sort notebook, and then select Tab.  The notebook will be refreshed, 
  47.  and the pages will be displayed in the new sort order.  To return to the 
  48.  original display, repeat the process and select Location

  50.  Please note:

  52.      It is possible to have more than one version of a product's SYSLEVEL file 
  53.       installed on your system; they can appear in different directories! 
  54.  
  55.      The SYSLEVEL command sorts output based on a directory sort.  However, 
  56.       when sorting by Location, the output is sorted based on the entire 
  57.       string.  The resulting notebook pages may not be in the same order as 
  58.       that of the command.

  63. The PMSysLev Utility is a shareware product created by Heliotropic Systems, 
  64. Inc.  As such, and especially if you use if frequently, you should fill out the 
  65. registration form and send in your payment.  This will entitle you to updates 
  66. as they are created and give you a louder voice when asking for improvements in 
  67. future releases (as well as for other utilities).
