EUROS/2
EurOS/2 is an organisation dedicated to promoting mutual support between
committed OS/2 users. This is to tell you a little more about EurOS/2 and
to invite you to participate in its activities. If you are working with OS/2,
I hope that you will want to keep in touch with EurOS/2.
IMMEDIATE AIMS
EurOS/2 has been formed primarily to encourage direct contacts between people
who have a responsibility to ensure the success of OS/2 implementations.
Despite the excellent technical quality of OS/2 and associated products, there
are always practical problems in implementation, and many of these can be more
readily solved by sharing information with others facing similar problems.
We will arrange events with a mixture of formal and informal activities, so as to
encourage the exchange of views, ideas, problems and solutions.
EurOS/2 will also provide indirect channels for exchange or soliciting of
information, and for the distribution of product knowledge in connection with OS/2 developments and the progress of related products and services.
The response to initial publicity by Moore Stephens on behalf of EurOS/2 has been
very positive, and with that encouragement we are now committing to:
- One meeting per month in London
- Electronic communications to interested organisations every other week
- At least one meeting in Edinburgh during 1996
- An annual conference in the UK, subject to sufficient support
Your comments on any further topics that interest you, or material that you would
like circulated to all participants, are all welcome. Please send your views to
Martin Brampton using the contact points shown below.
ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS
Everyone who has enquired about EurOS/2 will be kept informed of progress
using the contact information provided. If you prefer to receive information by
a different medium, please complete the contact form attached. If you are not
already registered with EurOS/2, please also complete the contact form attached.
You are also encouraged to pass the contact form to anyone else you feel would
be interested in EurOS/2. Please make as many copies of this file as you need,
and pass them to colleagues and contacts.
SEMINAR PROGRAMME
The first EurOS/2 seminar was held at 4.00 p.m. on Thursday 1st February 1996
at the Moore Stephens Training Centre, 1 Snow Hill, London EC1A 2EN. A map
showing the location is available by fax on request.
There was a short presentation on the following topics:
- The OS/2 Workplace Shell
- IBM's Restricted Workplace Shell - its goals and implementation
- REXX as a system control language
- Case study - the Moore Stephens network login system
Following the presentation and questions, there was informal discussion
between delegates. Light refreshments were provided. Fuller details of the
seminar are being distributed to all EurOS/2 contacts.
The second seminar of EurOS/2 is planned for Thursday 7th March 1996 at the
same time and location. We have a number of ideas for subject matter, including
some angles on OS/2 as a server operating system as well as further topics
relating to OS/2 on the workstation. Your views on topics of interest would be
very welcome - please contact Martin Brampton. There will be no charge for this
seminar.
