  6.  OPPORTUNITY:   IBM has expanded the existing DCE ON OS/2 BETA PROGRAM
  7.                 by  announcing   availability  of  the  DISTRIBUTED
  8.                 COMPUTING  ENVIRONMENT  (DCE)  CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA.
  9.                 Function  in  the  beta  code  enables  IBM  internals,
  10.                 customer  software  developers and independent software
  11.                 vendors to gain experience with the DCE technologies in
  12.                 the WINDOWS  environment.  Further,  the  beta  program
  13.                 promotes   application   prototyping,  development  and
  14.                 testing activities while  providing  feedback  to  IBM.
  15.                  This beta  code  should  NOT  be  used  in  production
  16.                 environments.

  18.  FEATURES and FUNCTIONS:  DCE is the Distributed Computing Environment,
  19.                 a  set  of  technologies  provided  through  the   Open
  20.                 Software    Foundation   to   enable   development   of
  21.                 distributed applications in a multi-vendor environment.
  22.  
  23.                 The IBM DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS is the implementation of
  24.                 the  Open  Software  Foundation's  DCE  version  1.0.1,
  25.                 designed  to  execute  on  a Windows 3.0 or 3.1   based
  26.                 personal computer.  The intent of DCE FOR WINDOWS  Beta
  27.                 code  is  to  interoperate  with  AIX-DCE  servers  and
  28.                 OS/2-DCE   servers.   To   date,   testing   of    this
  29.                 interoperability has been limited.

  31.                 Each  of  the  two  orderable  options within this beta
  32.                 program contain two  components,  the  DCE  CLIENT  FOR
  33.                 WINDOWS  and the DCE CLIENT SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS KIT FOR
  34.                 WINDOWS.

  36.  BETA SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The DCE  CLIENT  FOR  WINDOWS  requires  the
  37.                 following:

  39.                 Hardware environment
  40.  
  41.                 W   IBM  (or IBM-compatible) personal computer with 386
  42.                     or 486 processor
  43.                 W   Hard disk with at least 5 MB of free space
  44.                 W   Floppy disk drive (for installation)
  45.                 W   Graphics display card
  46.                 W   Mouse
  47.                 W   Network adapter card
  48.                 W   4 MB of memory (real plus extended)
  49.                     Note: 8 MB is recommended.
  50.                 W   5 MB Windows swap file

  54.                 W   DOS   version   3.30  or  later
  55.                     (version 5.02 is recommended)
  56.                 W   Microsoft  Windows  3.0  or  3.1

  60.                 W   UDP/IP   or   TCP/IP   network  transport  protocol

  63.                     Please  note  that  the  DCE  CLIENT  FOR   WINDOWS
  64.                     supports  Version  1.1  WinSock-compliant  and some
  65.                     other common non-Winsock-compliant TCP transports.

  67.                 The DCE CLIENT SOFTWARE  DEVELOPERS  KIT  requires  the
  68.                 following:

  95.                 W   Microsoft  Windows  3.x  Software  Development  Kit
  96.                     (version 3.1 is recommended)
  97.                 W   IBM DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS must be installed
  98.  
  99.  ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:  The  Beta package can be ordered today, for no
  100.                 charge electronic delivery  only,  facilitated  through
  101.                 yourself (if you are an IBM internal) or your local IBM
  102.                 marketing  rep.  (otherwise). This Beta is available in
  103.                 the United States, Canada, Latin America and EMEA.  The
  104.                 Beta  contains  code,  documentation  and   a   license
  105.                 allowing  installation  on  up  to  5  machines.   Beta
  106.                 program interfaces and documentation are  available  in
  107.                 U.S. English only.

  109.                 The following beta program order options are available:
  110.  
  111.                 W   Option  A  -  DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA With User
  112.                     Data Privacy (For USA/CANADA ONLY)
  113.  
  114.                     This  option  contains  data  privacy  support  for
  115.                     optionally  encrypting user data passed in a remote
  116.                     procedure call. The full  DES  algorithms  and  its
  117.                     distribution  are  controlled  by the United States
  118.                     Export Regulation Office. Beta participants  should
  119.                     not  export  this package outside the United States
  120.                     (or re-export it outside of Canada).

  122.                 W   Option B - DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA Without User
  123.                     Data Privacy (For EMEA/LATIN  AMERICA  as  well  as
  124.                     USA/CANADA distribution)
  125.  
  126.                     This  option does not contain data privacy support.
  127.                     The package contains limited DES algorithms.
  128.  
  129.                 Both  options   contain:   program   diskette   images,
  130.                 publications  files  (pre-formatted for printing on IBM
  131.                 3820 printers), and a diskette label file.
  132.  
  133.                 To obtain a Beta package in the USA and CANADA requires
  134.                 a two step process as follows:
  135.  
  136.                 1.  Contact your IBM  marketing  rep.  and  submit  the
  137.                     following  information  via  FAX to (512) 838-2433,
  138.                     Attn: "Dept 459 - DCE WINDOWS"  or submit  a  PROFS
  139.                     note to DCEREQ at AUSVM1:

  141.                     W   Specify ordering OPTION A or B for DCE WINDOWS.

  143.                     W   Company Name.

  145.                     W   Shipping Address.

  147.                     W   Company Technical Name and Phone Number.

  153.                     Upon  receipt  of this information, the appropriate
  154.                     License Agreement will be sent to you or  your  IBM
  155.                     Marketing  Rep  (for  delivery  to  you)  for  your
  156.                     review.

  158.                 2.  Review the License  Agreement,  complete  the  form
  159.                     (that will be included with the license) and return
  160.                     it via FAX to complete the process. (Disapproval of
  161.                     the  License  must  also  be  communicated and will
  162.                     cancel the order).

  164.                     Upon approval completion,  the  appropriate  Option
  165.                     package  will  be sent to you or your IBM Marketing
  166.                     Rep. (for delivery to you).
  167.  
  168.                 To  obtain  a  Beta  package  in EMEA or Latin America,
  169.                 contact your local IBM Marketing Representative.

  171.  TECHNICAL SUPPORT: All beta participants receive  no-charge  technical
  172.                 support  during  this  beta  program  through forums on
  173.                 Compuserve and the OS/2 Bulletin Board (OS2BBS) or  the
  174.                 IBMPC   disk.   IBM  support  will  be  provided  on  a
  175.                 'reasonable efforts' basis.

  177.                 W   To communicate via Compuserve, type "GO OS2DF2" and
  178.                     use the DCE message section to contact IBM.
  179.  
  180.                 W   To  communicate  via  IBM's  network,  select   the
  181.                     filename  OS2DCE  from  the OS2 Question and Answer
  182.                     Bulletin Boards on OS2BBS,  or  select  the  OS2DCE
  183.                     CFORUM on the IBMPC disk to contact IBM.
