MDI INTRODUCES SCSI EXPRESS 3.1.3 for OS/2
CD-ROM EXTENDER AND DUAL PICKER OPTICAL JUKEBOX SOLUTIONS
WINTER PARK, FL. _ October 1, 1995 _Micro Design International,
Inc. (MDI) introduces SCSI Express for OS/2, version 3.1.3,
expanding its support for the latest mass storage solutions.
SCSI Express for OS/2 now supports MDI's CD-ROM Extender product
allowing up to 49 CD-ROM drives on a single host adapter. SCSI
Express, still the only solution to offer removable optical media
for OS/2, now supports the new dual picker mechanism in optical
jukeboxes providing fast disk exchange. MDI's dedication to
simplifying the management of stored information is apparent with
SCSI Express for OS/2 where information is stored in a universal
standard format allowing portability between platforms.
MDI's comprehensive approach to integrated CD solutions make SCSI
Express ideal for customers requiring information access on
demand. The CD-ROM Extender expands the capacity of CD-ROMs on a
SCSI Bus by using the LUNs (Logical Unit Numbers) to connect
multiple CD-ROM drives to a single host adapter slot, freeing up
host adapter space for other needed devices. A variety of
configurations are available including single external, seven-
high towers, 28 and 49 drive cabinets with either 2X, 4X or 6X CD-
ROMs.
SCSI Express for OS/2 provides fast access to unattended mass
storage by supporting the dual picker mechanism housed in the
newest optical libraries on the market. This new line of optical
jukeboxes utilize a dual transport element for faster disk
exchange time, further decreasing the time to access data. MDI is
the first to offer support for these devices through SCSI Express
for OS/2. These dual picker libraries are ideal for environments
that require heavy usage of optical storage jukeboxes.
SCSI Express is known in OS/2 environments for its media
portability between platforms by implementing the Universal Disk
Format, UDF, when recording information on rewritable optical
media. These standards parameters, developed by OSTA (Optical
Storage Technology Association), allow interoperability and
system independence. Data interchange is cross compatible between
OS/2, DOS, Macintosh and UNIX environments. Micro Design is
committed to the advancement of mass storage solutions and is an
active participating member of OSTA. This participation has led
to MDI's success in offering the leading solution supporting the
UDF format through SCSI Express.
SCSI Express for OS/2 is priced at $95 supporting MDI's hardware.
Support for other manufacturers' hardware is also available and
is priced at $195. Free upgrades are available to current
customers with the 1.3 version. Upgrade information can be
obtained by calling 407-677-8333, ext 145.
Micro Design International, Inc. is committed to simplifying the
management of stored information by offering easy-to-implement,
cost-effective, standards-based data storage and retrieval
solutions. MDI's products include CD-ROM, optical stand-alone,
optical jukebox, DAT and hard disk for NetWarer, Windows NTÖ,
OS/2r, DOS, Macintosh and UNIX environments. Micro Design
recently won the Network Computing's Editors Choice award for
best of breed CD-ROM networking software. MDI has also achieved
its second year placement in Inc. magazine's list of fastest
growing, privately-held companies.
