  1. Press Release: New Japanese Language Companion for OS/2

  5. Language Companion for Japanese (OS/2 version) is now in prerelease                                                                 
  6. testing with release planned for June 30, 1996. This is Japanese for                                                                
  7. speakers of English.                                                                                                                
  8.                                                                                                                                     
  9. Language Companion is more than a language tutor, it is a true language                                                             
  10. companion. It contains a basic language course, an English-Japanese                                                                 
  11. dictionary, a Japanese-English Dictionary, a phrase book and a                                                                      
  12. grammar course for advanced students.                                                                                               
  13.                                                                                                                                     
  14. Developed for the new multimedia platforms, Language Companion can                                                                  
  15. used on multimedia desktops and laptops. It is distributed on CDROM                                                                 
  16. and makes use of the sound playing and recording abilities of                                                                       
  17. multimedia systems.                                                                                                                 
  18.                                                                                                                                     
  19. Language Companion uses sound files recorded by a native speaker of a                                                               
  20. language. A record and play back practice is included for all                                                                       
  21. lessons, dictionary words, and phrases. The student can record his                                                                  
  22. own voice, play it back and compare these sounds against the native                                                                 
  23. speaker.                                                                                                                            
  24.                                                                                                                                     
  25. Language Companion for Japanese uses the Latinized Hepburn system for                                                               
  26. phonic spelling of Japanese words.
