  5. The IBM LAN NetView family of products (for OS/2) announces the
  6. availability of a beta program.  The ordering information and product
  7. details are listed below.

  9. WHO QUALIFIES:

  11. Qualifying applicants are:

  13. o   Programmers who want to develop application programs on the LAN
  14.     NetView platform that will compete in the fast growing LAN system
  15.     management arena.
  16. o   Network planners and administrators who want to become familiar
  17.     with the LAN NetView family.

  19. ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:

  21. To order Beta versions of the products mentioned above, do one of the
  22. following:

  25.     and distribution costs.  The costs will be $100 for the user package

  61. LAN NETVIEW MANAGE AND ENABLER:
  62.  
  63. The LAN NetView platform, which includes LAN NetView Manage and LAN
  64. NetView Enabler, serves as the base for systems management applications
  65. and offers a consistent user interface, improved automation functions,
  66. and enhanced integration among products.

  68. The LAN NetView Manage, when combined with Novell's NSM 1.5, provides
  69. administrators with a comprehensive set of tools and services to
  70. efficiently manage NetWare and LAN Server, as well as OS/2 and its
  71. subsystems, including Communications Manager/2 and Database Manager/2.

  73. The LAN NetView family of products also includes several applications,
  74. including LAN NetView Monitor and LAN NetView Tie.  Monitor and Tie,
  75. now available for Beta, are IBM applications written to the X-OPEN
  76. Management (XMP) interface of LAN NetView Manage.

  78. LAN NETVIEW MONITOR:
  79.  
  80. LAN NetView Monitor enables performance management of OS/2 2.X systems
  81. through the use of policies that define resources to be collected,
  82. collection schedules, thresholds and data transfer times.  Managed
  83. resources include critical OS/2 2.X and IBM LAN Server and Requester 3.0
  84. resources, all of which may be selected on a per-metric basis.
  85. Threshold monitoring allows 'management by exception' through alarm
  86. notification and associated actions.  Multiple policies can be active
  87. at a managed system simultaneously, meaning that multiple managing
  88. systems can be monitoring the same remote system.  Collected data is
  89. summarized into an OS/2 SQL database on the managing system, from which
  90. resource, alarm and policy reports can be generated.  Realtime graphing
  91. is supported, as well as graphing from the database, and resources from
  92. multiple nodes can be displayed on the same graph.  A command line
  93. interface to managing system function is provided for remote unattended
  94. operation, and threshold alarms can be converted to NetView alerts
  95. through registration with the LAN NetView Tie product.

  97. LAN NETVIEW TIE:

  99. LAN NetView Tie improves centralized control of LAN environments by
  100. providing a means for sending CMIP notifications to NetView in a manner
  101. that NetView can understand.  A NetView operator can issue commands
  102. (through both the NetView and OS/2 command line interfaces), to register
  103. to receive specific alarm and non-alarm notifications from resources
  104. managed by the LAN NetView environment.  When the alarms that have been
  105. registered occur, Tie reports them to NetView by converting the OSI
  106. Alarms to SNA Alerts and sending them to NetView via IBM OS/2
  107. Communications Manager.
