Rightware, Inc. is pleased to announce LinkRight. LinkRight is a parallel
port and serial port file transfer utility made especially for OS/2.
The OS/2 versions are 32 bit, multithreaded tasks. For a single low price,
you can get a PM version, OS/2 command line version, and DOS version.
Some of the features of this product include:
Automatically copy Extended Attributes.
Copy files to/from DOS to/from OS/2 systems.
Files sent from OS/2 to DOS systems retain EAs. Although the DOS system
cannot use EAs, if you copy files back to an OS/2 system, EAs will be
transferred back to the OS/2 system.
Full multi-threaded application The user interface portion is a separate thread
from the file send and recieve threads. Therefore, you can start sending
files, and while the files are being sent, queue more files.
Subdirectories, hidden, and system files can be copied.
Extensive logging of significant events. The Event log contains a list
of all successful and unsuccessful transfers. The Event logging facility
can optionally be disabled. Event log can be viewed while transfers are
in progress.
Error log is similar to Event log, except it logs errors only.
Batch file generation. You can mark and immediately send files, or you can
mark files and save them to a list of files for later transfer. If a
file transfer fails, an entry is automatically made into the Retry Batch
file. Batch files are standard ASCII files that can be edited with any
editor.
Obviously, this application was designed for BACKGROUND use. An additional
feature is the ability to select IDLE TIME TRANSFERS ONLY. If you select
this option, file transfers occur at the lowest possible system priority,
which allows you to edit files, run a spreadsheet, do word processing,
etc. with virtually no impact to system response time.
You can select to use both the serial port and the parallel port
simultaneously (this feature not available in DOS version).
Features compression for faster transfers.
Uses CRC checking to insure accurate transfers.
Full support for long file names and HPFS.
Some of the possible uses of this product include:
Ability to copy OS/2 from one system to another. You no longer have to
feed a system 29 floppies to install OS/2!! Of course you will need to
have a running OS/2 system for the source computer. You will need to
boot both the source and target systems from an OS/2 bootable floppy.
You should have previously created a Batch file that contains the list
of system files that you want to transfer.
Availability:
This application is scheduled for limited Beta testing starting sometime
between May 20 and May 30. The exact start date depends on when our
programmers say it is ready. Although there will be very few beta
testers, the beta testers will be free to make any public comments they
feel are appropriate. The DOS version will not be included in the initial
beta, but will enter beta testing 1 to 2 weeks after the beginning of the
beta test of the OS/2 versions. Release date of the shrink
wrapped version will depend on comments from beta testers and other
potential users.
Since OS/2 2.1 release is imminent, we at Rightware are working hard to
get this product ready in time for 2.1. Since this product is useful for
installing OS/2, we think users would love to have this product available
when 2.1 is released. A release of PM and OS/2 command line versions with
the DOS version (distributed free to registered users) released later is
a possibility.
Upgrades from LapLink and FastLynx will be available. You will be able to
use your LapLink cables, so upgrades will not include cables. Pricing has
not been determined, but the company founders feel VERY strongly that OS/2
software should not be priced higher than DOS or Windows software.
