  1. Instructions for upgrading a IBM PCMCIA 28.8 International Modem to
  2. 33.6 on  IBM OS/2  or Windows 3.1 operating system.
  3.  
  4. o NOTE:  When upgraded  to 33.6 firmware the International modem
  5.     should be used with the 33.6 country selector software.
  6.  
  7. o Expand ( unzip) file OS2UG336    BE  SURE to type OS2UG336 -d     to expand
  8.    the sub-directories.
  9.  
  10. o Upgrading is a three step operation:
  11.  
  12.   - Upgrading your modem with the 33.6Kbps firmware
  13.  
  14.   - removing the IBM PCMCIA 28.8 International Modem
  15.     country selector from your system.
  16.  
  17.   - Installing the 33.6 country selector on your system.

  20. 1) Upgrading your modem to 33.6 Kbps
  21.  
  22. o Insert modem in PCMCIA socket
  23.  
  24. o For OS/2 system, open system setup in the system folder.
  25.    Double click on Plug-and-Play icon to find the com port your
  26.    modem is assigned to, record the com port number.
  27.  
  28. o Go to DOS, change to the directory where you downloaded the upgrade.
  29.  
  30. o Execute "firmware" program, (type firmware and press enter).
  31.  
  32. o Follow instructions on screen. when requested, type in the
  33.    port number you recorded.
  34.  
  35. o Modem will be upgraded to 33.6Kbps and set to U.S.A. country.

  37. o Later you can use the 33.6 country selector to set the modem
  38.   to your country of choice.

  43. 2) Removing the IBM 28.8 modem country selector from your system
  44.  
  45. o You can use the 28.8 Country selector diskette to uninstall
  46.    the 28.8 country selector.  Or uninstall using standard OS/2
  47.    or Windows 3.1 procedures.

  49. o Note: New 33.6 country selector will work correctly if you do not
  50.    remove the 28.8 country selector.

  57. 3) Installing the 33.6 country selector for  OS/2
  58.  
  59. o Remove and Insert modem in PCMCIA socket
  60.  
  61. o Change to the directory you down loaded the upgrade.
  62.  
  63. o Type "install"   and press enter.
  64.  
  65. o Follow the instructions to install the country selector for OS/2
  66.  
  67. o You can verify the upgrade using a terminal program
  68.   by typing ati3  enter   the modem will return  7852-P01 V4.0

  72. 3b) Installing the 33.6 country selector for  Windows 3.1
  73.  
  74. o Remove and Insert modem in PCMCIA socket

  80. o Follow the instructions to install the country selector.
