Attention OS/2 HP ScanJet Users,
Danmar Systems, Inc. and their international distributor,
the Farrel Co., are pleased to introduce ImageScan/2, an
innovative new OS/2 scanning, copying and faxing
application. ImageScan/2 is designed to provide powerful
image capturing and exporting features as well as easy, one-
step copying and faxing capabilities. Not just a port of an
old Microsoft Windows application, ImageScan/2 is designed
from the ground up to take advantage of features that make
OS/2 such a robust 32-bit operating system.
ImageScan/2 includes support for most Hewlett Packard
ScanJet desktop scanners such as the IIp, IIc, IIcx, 3c, 3p,
4c and 4p. HP's switchless SCSI interface that comes with
these scanners is supported, as well as those 3rd party SCSI
controllers that are recognized and supported by OS/2 (eg.
Adaptec, DTC, BusLogic).
ImageScan/2 is actually three applications bundled into one:
QuikImage, QuikCopy and QuikFax, conveniently replacing
several Windows or OS/2 applications with one easy to use
Presentation Manager application.
The QuikImage module is a powerful, multithreaded, native
OS/2 replacement for HP's DeskScan II software. With
QuikImage you can Preview and Capture images, then Save them
as files in the background while continuing to work on other
important tasks in the foreground. QuikImage also lets you
select just a portion of an image, then print or save just
that selection, thus reducing the amount of time and space
used to store images. The selection can easily be enlarged
or reduced by simply dragging the mouse over any of the
edges. Several image types are currently available for
saving and exporting of images, among them BMP, PCX & TIF.
Other formats are currently being added and tested, and will
be made available.
The QuikCopy module contains most of the features normally
found in high-end copying machines: multiple copies,
magnification and reduction, intensity and contrast
adjustments, copy resolution, inverting and mirroring of
images being a few of the literally thousands of adjustments
possible. QuikCopy also supports printing directly to all
OS/2-compatible printers, PCL compatible or not. The PCL
mode does allow for very quick copying but the non-PCL mode
provides compatibility support for thousands of printers.
The QuikCopy module also supports HP's optional Automatic
Document Feeder (ADF) for quick and easy multipage copying.
The QuikCopy module is an OS/2 replacement for the Windows-
based HP Copier program as well as some available OS/2
copying utilities.
The QuikFax module is a powerful Scan and Fax tool tightly
integrated with the FaxWorks software included with OS/2
Warp 3.0. It is fully compatible with both FaxWorks Lite and
FaxWorks Pro so there is no need to upgrade your current
faxing software. QuikFax also fully supports HP's Automatic
Document Feeder (ADF) for convenient, multipage faxing, but
if you don't have an ADF use QuikFax's Simulated ADF which
makes multipage faxing a snap without incurring the expense
of an optional document feeder.
Possibly ImageScan's most powerful feature, however, is that
it maintains separate settings for each module: scanning,
copying and faxing. No longer do you have to switch from
regular printers used for copying to fax printers used for
faxing. With separate settings for each module, ImageScan/2
can scan and save images using one set of scanner settings
and then copy or fax with a completely different set of
values. For example, in a typical desktop publishing
environment, a person may want to scan small images at a
very high resolution for inclusion in a document but at the
same time may want to make copies at a lower resolution for
increased speed. ImageScan/2 allows for this with very
little effort. Fax settings can be preset to common values
which only apply to faxing, and then forgotten. The benefits
of using this approach are endless.
The ImageScan/2 package also includes version 1.40 of the
SCSIScan for OS/2 drivers, the defacto standard for
integrating HP ScanJets with OS/2 for the past three years.
While providing a convenient and workable solution, CPU
usage was always high with earlier versions. The version
1.40 SCSIScan drivers have not only been rewritten to take
full advantage of ImageScan/2's multithreaded features, the
SCANOS2.SYS driver for OS/2-supported SCSI controllers has
been redesigned to allow the scanner to operate in the
background, while consuming barely any CPU cycles.
Foreground processes run almost full speed while tasks such
as copying and faxing run comfortably in the background. The
driver supporting the HP switchless card, SCANHP1.SYS, has
also been improved and includes tighter integration with the
ImageScan/2 software, but for those seeking the best
multitasking performance from their ScanJet, a 16 or 32-bit
OS/2-supported SCSI adapter is necessary.
ImageScan/2 Offers
- New version 1.40 of SCSIScan for OS/2 drivers increases
scanning performance
- Convenient one-step scanning, copying and faxing in one
native OS/2 application
- Powerful, 32-bit multithreaded operation not previously
possible
- Efficient design with individual settings for scanning,
copying and faxing
- Thousands of individual settings possible for resolution,
contrast, intensity, etc.
- New driver slashes CPU drain typically experienced with
other scanning software
- Competitive price for new purchasers
- Special upgrade pricing for current SCSIScan owners
Anyone wishing to order ImageScan/2 should contact the
