  1. Today (10/28/93) IBM Software Solutions Toronto Lab announces three OS/2
  2. C Set ++ products:

  4. C Set ++ V2.1
  5. C Set ++ FirstStep
  6. C Set ++ Class Libraries Source V2.1
  7.  
  8. Availability is 11/9/93 in the US. Please be aware that not all countries
  9. have announced these products today. If your country has not, be patient.
  10. I expect they will announce shortly.

  12. C SET ++ V2.1
  13. -------------
  14. This is the latest release of the full C Set ++ product, and it replaces
  15. the current C Set ++ V2.0. Highlights are:
  16. - TK 2.1 now included
  17. - WorkFrame 2 V2.1 (WPS enabled) included (WF V1.1 also remains in the
  18.   product)
  19. - ICLUI Drag/Drop classes available
  20. - KASE:Set GUI Builder included
  21. - CSDs 1 and 2 incorporated
  22. - CD-ROM with documentation (CD-ROM Pak) available as an option (CD-ROM
  23.   without doc still available)
  24. - New pricing options (LAN and volume)
  25. - Upgrade pricing

  27. C SET ++ FIRSTSTEP
  28. ------------------
  29. This is a slimmed down version of C Set ++ at a slimmed down price, great
  30. for getting started in C Set ++. FirstStep has:
  31.  
  32. - the same compiler/debugger code as C Set ++ except that it doesn't
  33.   have optimization.
  34. - three class libraries
  35.    - Standard Class Library
  36.    - Collection Class Library
  37.    - Application Support Class Library (string, date, time)
  38. - Toolkit 2.1 (same as C Set ++)
  39. - WorkFrame/2 V1.1 (C Set ++ V2.1 has both V1.1 and V2.1
  40.  
  41. EXTRA (the code analyser) and the Browser aren't in FirstStep, nor is
  42. the User Interface library.  These things aren't essential to start with
  43. C++, but they're a tremendously useful once you get going, or if you
  44. program for a living. They're in the full C Set ++ V2.1 package, which
  45. obviously costs more.

  47. C SET ++ CLASS LIBRARIES SOURCE V2.1

  49. Source code is now available for the User Interface and Collection Class
  50. Libraries.  This is a separate product, at a separate price.  Source
  51. code for other parts of C Set ++ is not available.

  53. Which to buy?
  54. ------------
  55. It depends on how much function you want and how much you want to pay.
  56. C Set ++ is loaded with features and functions and is a "professional "
  57. level product.  FirstStep is a slimmed down version of C Set ++ with a
  58. correspondingly lower price, great for those people just getting started
  59. with C or C++, or on a tight budget.  If you want all the bells and
  60. whistles, C Set ++ is the one to choose.  But if you want to try out the
  61. product, or you don't need all the class libraries, or the code analyser
  62. and such, then you should go for FirstStep.

  64. PRICING
  65. -------
  66. Because of the new licensing options and the volume packs and the
  67. upgrades from previous products, there are many part numbers.  This note
  68. does NOT cover all the part numbers associated with the three new
  69. products, but gives the main numbers you need. If you need further help,
  70. contact IBM through your local source (IBM office, IBM rep, dealer,
  71. distributor, CompuServe, IBMLink TalkLink BBS, workframe@vnet.ibm.com or
  72. cset2@vnet.ibm.com, etc, etc).

  74. These prices are IBM announced prices.  Some part numbers have a
  75. 'street' price which is the price you will pay at the IBM 1-800-3IBM-OS2
  76. number.  Your dealer/distributor may sell for less.  All prices quoted
