OS/2 World Conference & Exhibition
Santa Clara Convention Center
Santa Clara, California
July 19-22, 1994.
C A L L F O R S P E A K E R S
The First Annual OS/2 World Conference & Exhibition is designed
to offer hands-on, how-to technical workshops and lectures on
maximizing productivity using IBM's OS/2 desktop operating
system. This first conference is expected to attract between
1,000 and 1,500 conference attendees, and will offer more than
100 different technical classes.
The Conference Committee for the OS/2 World Conference is
soliciting independent, knowledgeable speakers to offer lectures
and conduct workshops in several main topic areas:
* Systems Administration
* OS/2 Power Computing
* Networking
* Client/Server Computing
* Database Design & Implementation
* Multimedia
* Corporate Software Development
SESSION TYPES
Lectures are one hour in length. Offered over three days, July
20-22, these classes discuss the issues on a particular OS/2
computing topic in a presentation format. Instructors should be
well-versed in the subject area.
Workshops are two hours in length, and are also offered over
three days, July 20-22. Workshops present in-depth discussions
of significant OS/2 computing topics, and are geared for
significant attendee participation in addition to a formal
speaker presentation. Instructors should have considerable field
experience in the subject area, and be prepared to answer
attendee questions in detail.
INDEPENDENT FOCUS
The lectures and workshops offered at the OS/2 World Conference
are designed to provide independent and useful information to
our attendees. This means that when particular hardware or
software products are discussed or compared, this must be done
by impartial experts in a balanced format.
The OS/2 World Conference technical program is not a forum for
vendor sales pitches. We will not accept session proposals
offered by vendors which we believe will be used to promote or
sell products. Sessions presenting a problem that is ultimately
solved by using a product that your company happens to sell, for
example, will not be accepted.
Session proposals should be aimed at teaching skills, not on
supporting particular software products. For example,
appropriate classes would cover remote network administration,
debugging OS/2 printing problems, understanding OS/2 programming
models, or feature-by-feature comparison of several
client/server solutions.
PAPERS AND COMPENSATION
All lectures and workshops accepted for presentation must be
accompanied by technical papers in the official Conference
Proceedings. If a session proposal is accepted, all presenters
are required to submit course materials no later than March 11,
1994. The conference paper materials should be 6 to 10 pages in
length, and contain both written and graphic elements, as
appropriate. Failure to submit these materials result in the
class being cancelled or reassigned.
Conference speakers will be given complementary admission to the
OS/2 World Conference in appreciation of their effort in
preparing and presenting lectures and workshops. The OS/2 World
Conference will not pay speaker expenses for attending the
conference.
PROPOSAL FORMAT
Proposal for teaching lectures and workshops must contain the
following information:
* Course title.
* Speaker's name, affiliation, and 100-word biography. Include
contact information (name, address, phone, fax, and electronic
mail).
* Abstract: A 200-word description that describes the class, the
benefits to be gained by attending, and the prerequisite
knowledge needed by the attendee.
* Details on whether the proposal is for a two-hour workshop or
one-hour lecture. Also specify whether this course level will be
best for beginning, intermediate, or advanced OS/2 users.
KEY DATES
* January 15, 1994: Final date for speaker proposals.
* February 11, 1994: Speaker notifications completed.
* March 11, 1994: Papers for accepted classes are due.
