IBM ANNOUNCES ULTIMEDIA DEVELOPERS PROGRAM
January 31, 1992
Today IBM Multimedia announces a new program to provide services and
support to designers, developers and marketeers of multimedia software
applications.
The Ultimedia Developers Program is open to any multimedia
application creator operating in the U.S. Acceptance will be based
on the developer's plan to convert or create multimedia applications
and/or tools, for sale, on IBM platforms.
After being accepted into the program and paying the annual fee,
participants will have the advantage of producing their innovative
applications with assistance from IBM through the Ultimedia Developers
Program, including the following services:
o Multimedia Technical Support - For answers to technical
questions, participating creators can use The Program's special
toll-free support line. The support line is staffed with multimedia
professionals dedicated to assisting the developers reduce their
development cycle time.
o On-Line Support - From their computers, creators can access an
IBM technical database (containing common questions and answers).
An electronic mail function is also available to facilitate
communications and remain updated on a variety of multimedia
topics through bulletin boards.
o Developer Support Services - IBM's Try & Buy program lets a
developer try a limited set of systems -- on which to build
multimedia applications -- for 120 days. At the end of this
period, the developer can either return the systems to IBM or
purchase them at a 50 percent discount. In addition, developers
can buy selected multimedia software or hardware adapter cards
at a substantial discount and take advantage of technical
conferences at reduced rates.
o Marketing Support Services - Invitations to demonstrate in IBM
sponsored business shows will be extended to participating creators
who have developed multimedia applications appropriate for the show
audience. Additionally, participants will be listed in IBM's
courseware and product catalogs, and in IBM's primary on-line field
resource information system -- the National Solution Center.
o Business Support Services - Special equipment rental rates
will be extended to developers who need IBM equipment or OEM
peripherals on a long- or short-term basis.
The annual program fee is $4000. The fee for Authorized Industry
Application Specialist (IAS) - Multimedia Products is $2000.
Anyone applying before May 31, 1992, can do so at a 50% discount.
