NEW REVISION OF "PS/2 - A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE" BOOK AVAILABLE
The new 5th edition of "IBM PS/2--A Business Perspective" (a best selling
trade book published by John Wiley & Sons) can now be ordered directly from
IBM. To order, dial 1-800-IBM-CALL or see your IBM Marketing
Representative and order document #G325-0400. This highly successful book
has been updated to include OS/2 2.0, many new models (e.g. 35, 40, 57,
90, 95), rewritable optical disk drives, 486 Processor Upgrades, IBM's 386
SLC microprocessor, Model M57 Ultimedia and multimedia options, 8516 touch
display, and much more.
This book contains complete information--all in one place--about the PS/2
System Units, options, peripherals, operating systems, and application
programs. Also included is a hands-on session with a PS/2 for first time
users. Finally, hypothetical small, medium, and large businesses are
described and then outfitted with the appropriate PS/2 hardware/software
configurations to meet their needs.
A companion to the highly successful "IBM AS/400--A Business Perspective"
(GA21-9990) and "IBM RISC System/6000--A Business Perspective" (GA23-2674),
this book describes the PS/2 family in a way understandable by business
people. Throughout the book, each feature of the PS/2 is described in the
context of how it helps the business user do his job.
CHAPTER 1: Introduces the PS/2 family members and compares them to the
earlier PC family. Then the technology (architecture, memory, disks, etc.)
and functions are explained in non-technical terms.
CHAPTER 2: Reviews the options (feature cards, upgrades, etc.) and
peripherals (displays, printers, etc.) for the PS/2 family.
CHAPTER 3: Guides the new user through a 'hands-on' session with the PS/2
Reference Diskette. It then describes the basic types of software
(application programs, operating systems, and Licensed Internal Code) and
how they work together.
CHAPTER 4: Describes the basic types of application programs used with
PS/2 ystems in the business environment (spreadsheets, word processing,
data base, etc.).
CHAPTER 5: Discusses the various operating systems used with PS/2 systems
ncluding OS/2 2.0, Windows 3.1, DOS 5.0, and AIX. Help in determining
which operating system to use is provided.
CHAPTER 6: Covers popular communications configurations in which PS/2
systems can participate. These include remote terminals, Local Area
Networks, and Wide Area (SNA) Networks.
CHAPTER 7: First shows the reader how to identify his needs. Three
hypothetical businesses (small, medium, and large) are then described and
then outfitted with the right PS/2 hardware and software to meet their
needs. The chapter then addresses some other planning topics including
identifying costs, identifying benefits, lease vs. purchase, office
ergonomics, and migration from earlier PC systems.
