  1. Recently we introduced PL/I Workstation/2 at COMDEX.  PL/I Workstation/2, for
  2. individual users, allows you to produce 32-bit OS/2 applications using the
  3. outstanding features provided by the PL/I Language.  These features include:
  4.  
  5.   - String handling for business applications
  6.   - Floating point and complex arithmetic for engineering applications
  7.   - Pointer arithmetic and bit manipulation for systems programming
  8.   - Advanced error handling facility to catch and allow recovery from
  9.     systems errors as well as common programming errors, such as
  10.     subscripts or substrings that are out of range
  11.  
  12. PL/I Workstation/2 includes a number of usability features to aid in the
  13. development of workstation applications.  They include:
  14.  
  15.   - Support for WorkFrame/2, a compile-edit shell with an auto-make facility
  16.   - Automatic support for directing input and output to and from Presentation
  17.     Manager windows
  18.   - The ability to tailor the product to fit your needs through compiler
  19.     options and a compiler user exit
  20.   - Support for all 32-bit interprocedure calling conventions which allows
  21.     PL/I programs to call C routines or operating system API's
  22.  
  23. The product will be available in December for $495.  It includes the compiler
  24. and runtime on diskette along with a CD-ROM containing the Language Reference
  25. Manual, Programming Guide, and Runtime Error Messages.  Hard copies of the
  26. manuals are available for an additional $50.  Limited service and support will
  27. be provided through CompuServe and a postal address.

  29. PL/I Package/2 continues to be available and is aimed at supporting our
  30. Enterprise customers.  It includes the following additional features which
  31. are not available in PL/I Workstation/2:
  32.  
  33.   - Flagging the use of features outside the SAA language definition
  34.   - Support for the DDM access method (similar to VSAM)
  35.   - A 60-day trial period
  36.   - Full IBM Service and Support
  37.
