C.O.L. SYSTEMS TO DELIVER HIGH-LEVEL PERFORMANCE
MONITORING TOOLS FOR OS/2 2.0 LAN USERS
Palo Alto, CA - March 31, 1992 - C.O.L. Systems, Inc. has announced
that they will soon begin delivering an OS/2 2.0 version of their
highly successful Osrm2 LAN System. The Osrm2 System (Operating
System Resource Monitor for OS/2) provides resource monitoring,
performance analysis and capacity planning capabilities for multiple
servers or workstations running OS/2 in a local area network
environment.
"If an organization is deploying critical business applications
on the OS/2 platform, it is essential that they have an effective way
to measure and monitor the performance of these systems", says Frank
Castellucci, president of C.O.L. "By providing them with detailed
information and analysis on both Systems and Applications performance
and resource usage, the Osrm2 System gives organizations the
information they need to effectively gauge and optimize the
performance of their OS/2 LAN environments."
Designed from the ground up to be a true multi-node monitor, the
Osrm2 LAN System provides a robust set of performance and resource
usage data on both an overall system-level and per-application basis
for all monitored nodes on a local area network.
System resources monitored by the Osrm2 LAN System include:
* CPU Usage - CPU utilization, CPU Dispatches
* Real Memory Status - Total, Free, Used, Fixed, Working set,
Non-working set
* Disk Activity - Number of reads, writes, writes w/verify,
bytes, sectors, response time, percent busy
(Monitors both Physical and Logical Disks)
* Swap Activity - Number of swaps, total bytes swapped,
swap response time
* Interrupt Activity - Interrupt utilization, Interrupt dispatches
The Osrm2 LAN System uses the Presentation Manager graphical
interface of OS/2 to display real-time and summary information and
analysis of both systems and applications performance and resource
usage. System performance information can be displayed locally at
each monitored node or remotely from any OS/2 workstation using the
Osrm2 Administrator utility.
LAN administrators can use the Administrator Utility from any OS/2
workstation that has a requester to the Osrm2 Server Component. "By
making the utility free of any dynamic link library requirements the
administrator can walk around with the utility on a floppy,"
Castellucci says, "Whenever the admin wants to monitor systems
activity across the network, they can just load the Osrm2
Administrator, and within seconds real time statistics, graphical
viewports and performance alert conditions can be displayed".
The Administrator utility creates graphical views of systems
activity for one or all active Osrm2 monitored nodes. It also
provides a Node Status screen which graphically represents the status
(active or inactive), and performance alert condition (number and
severity of alerts) for all monitored nodes, allowing users to spot
performance problems before they become critical. Additionally, the
Administrator utility's Application Monitor provides detailed
performance information on a per-application basis, showing how each
application is utilizing overall system resources. "The Administrator
utility's Application Monitor allows organizations to pinpoint which
of their applications may be causing performance problems in their LAN
environment", says Castellucci.
The Osrm2 LAN System provides sophisticated data management
capabilities, centrally storing data from all monitored nodes. It's
end-of-day processing routines compresses, stores and summarizes all
collected data into detail, daily, weekly and monthly files. The
Osrm2 Graph and Report Generator can use these files to produce
presentation quality graphs and reports. The Catalog and Archive
Manager provides an automated tool for tracking, storing and
retrieving the data files on a long-term basis.
The Osrm2 LAN System for OS/2 1.2 and OS/2 1.3 is currently
available in a variety of configurations starting at $495 for a
single-node version. The Osrm2 LAN System for OS/2 2.0 will be
available June 1, 1992.
