  10. ABSTRACT          IBM Data Interpretation System advances
  11. productivity by migrating business professionals from stand-alone
  12. workstations into a fully integrated local area network (LAN) based
  13. workstation and host system for data access, analysis, and
  14. application construction.  Designed for decision-making
  15. professionals, Data Interpretation System uses an iconic desktop
  16. interface to present graphical tools for assembling, analyzing,
  17. presenting, and communicating information gathered from one or more
  18. data sources.  The product helps data-reliant professionals access
  19. needed information and build applications with minimal dependence
  20. on computer skills.  With the Data Interpretation System, a series
  21. of operations can be performed using individual tools.  These
  22. operations also can be graphically encapsulated in an independent
  23. icon that can be stored for later execution.  This product provides
  24. a Token-Ring-based system of services and workstations that
  25. communicates with MVS and VM systems running Database 2 (TM) (DB2
  26. (TM)), Structured Query Language/Data System (SQL/DS (TM)), and/or
  27. PROFS (R).  Multiple LANs may be combined using SNA LU6.2 to
  28. facilitate workgroup and resource sharing

  48. The following are changes and additions to the Specified Operating
  49. Environment contained in Programming Announcement 289-215, dated
  50. May 16, 1989.
  51. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS
  52. IBM DATA INTERPRETATION SYSTEM LAN SERVICES
  53. ADDITION:  Support is provided for the components of the Data
  54. Interpretation System to communicate over a 4Mb IBM Token-Ring LAN
  55. using an IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter/A (16F1133).  There
  56. may be some degradation of performance under certain conditions. 
  57. ADDITION:  Support is provided for the IBM 4216 Model 030
  58. PagePrinter attached to the serial port of a PS/2 (R) workstation
  59. or print server.
  60. CHANGE:  Print services, mail gateway, data base gateway, file
  61. services, and workstations each require 4MB memory; however, 6MB
  62. memory is recommended for file services. (R) Registered trademark

  66. CHANGE:  VTAM Version 3 Release 2 Modification 1 with fixes VM34384
  67. and VM36404 is now required under VM/SP Release 6.
  68. IBM DATA INTERPRETATION SYSTEM LAN SERVICES
  69. ADDITION:  Operating System/2 (TM) (OS/2 (R)) Extended Edition 1.1,
  70. DOS 3.3, or DOS 4.0 can be used for workstation start-up and for
  71. print services start-up.
