  4.   Distributed Application/2 Version 1.1 is now available.

  6.   PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  8.   Distributed Application/2 is a set of application programming
  9.   interfaces (APIs) that provide a consistent way to access
  10.   interprocess and network communication functions under Operating
  11.   System/2 (OS/2) Version 2.0, making client/server applications
  12.   easier to create than ever.  Distributed Application/2 supplies you
  13.   with a set of APIs designed to help you compete in the growing
  14.   client/server programming arena.  The APIs hide the complexity of
  15.   the supported communications protocols, and enable you to select a
  16.   communications protocol for your application at run time without
  17.   requiring you to change your code.  You focus on your application,
  18.   and leave the client/server communication to Distributed
  19.   Application/2.  Distributed Application/2 supports the following
  20.   communications protocols: Advanced program-to-program communication
  21.   (APPC), NetBIOS, and OS/2 named pipes.

  23.   Distributed Application/2 APIs have been enabled for C and REXX.

  66.       -   The LAN Requester feature of OS/2 LAN Server Version 2.0,
  67.           in which case any NetBIOS communication partners must also
  68.           have an IBM LAN requester installed.
  69.       -   Novell(**) NetWare** Requester for OS/2 2.0 with the Novell
  70.           NetBIOS emulator, in which case any NetBIOS communication
  71.           partners must also have the Novell NetWare requester installed.
  72.   o   To use Distributed Application/2 with APPC, you also need Extended
  73.       Services for OS/2 Version 2.0.

  75.   You can install Distributed Application/2 on a LAN data server so
  76.   that multiple developers can access the code to enable their
  77.   applications to Distributed Application/2 services.  However, you
  78.   need a Distributed Application/2 license for each workstation on
  79.   which Distributed Application/2 is used to enable applications.  You
  80.   do not need a Distributed Application/2 license for workstations
  81.   that run applications using Distributed Application/2 services.
