IBM UNVEILS CONSULTING BUSINESS - PRESS RELEASE
October 19, 1992
WHITE PLAINS, NY, Oct. 19--IBM today unveiled its global consulting
business, the IBM Consulting Group, that will provide management and
information technology-related consulting services to companies and
organizations in 30 countries.
The IBM Consulting Group brand, made up of an umbrella network of global
consulting practices, is the responsibility of General Manager Robert M.
Howe, formerly of Booz-Allen & Hamilton, where he was in charge of the
firm's worldwide financial services practice.
With 1,500 consultants worldwide, and the global resources of IBM, the
IBM Consulting Group offers a broad range of consulting specialties to
provide clients with world-class expertise on management and technology issues
from the office to the plant floor.
Each of the Group's 12 current consulting practices will operate under
the IBM Consulting Group brand as determined by a review committee
which approves each practice's business plans, methodologies, business
processes and client satisfaction measurements.
Mr. Howe reports to IBM Vice President Bernard Puckett, general manager
of Application Solutions. "The IBM Consulting Group is a world-class
response to a market that's expected to double between 1991 and 1996,"
said Mr. Puckett, "and a major element in IBM's ability to deliver what
our customers need."
"We have combined the talents and experience of practitioners from some
of the world's leading consulting firms with IBM practitioners who have
spent years solving real-world business problems for major
corporations." said Mr. Howe. "The result is a vital, highly creative
organization that is helping clients achieve success by providing a
full range of consulting services, from business process re-engineering
to information technology-specific consulting. We are succeeding," Mr.
Howe said, "because of our intense focus on meeting and exceeding
client expectations. The best gauge of our success to date is a high
