  4. TITLE      IBM CONSUMER TRANSACTION LICENSED PROGRAMS FOR OS/2 AND DOS
  5. ABSTRACT          IBM SAA (TM) Consumer Transaction (CT) Definition/2 and
  6.            Runtime/2 address the needs and requirements for integrated advanced
  7.            branch teller and platform PS/2 (R) workstation finance solutions.
  8.            Version 1.1 offerings of these licensed programs are announced with
  9.            enhancements including operation with IBM OS/2 (R) Version 2.0.  In
  10.            addition, Version 1.3 of the IBM Consumer Transaction/DOS (CT/DOS)
  11.            Runtime and the IBM Consumer Transaction/DOS Platform licensed
  12.            programs for DOS with enhancements are announced.
  13.                   CT Definition/2 developers can now develop complete
  14.            applications for both CT Runtime/2 and CT/DOS Runtime.  This
  15.            flexibility allows financial institutions to take advantage of the
  16.            power of OS/2 Version 2.0 when using this Presentation Manager
  17.            (R)-based enabler to develop applications for the DOS workstation
  18.            environment.

  49.            DESCRIPTION
  50.            USER PRODUCTIVITY
  51.            CT enhances customer developer and end user productivity by providing
  52.            a consistent Common User Access (TM) (CUA (TM)) interface for
  53.            developing Runtime applications for both OS/2 and DOS.  To take
  54.            advantage of the robust capabilities of OS/2 Version 2.0,
  55.            CT Definition/2 is expanded to fully support the definition
  56.            requirements of CT/DOS Runtime in addition to its current complete
  57.            support of CT Runtime/2.  This Presentation Manager-based enabler
  58.            includes a DOS panel editor that creates and updates panels for
  59.            CT/DOS Runtime and also includes editors for defining print panels,
  60.            color, and printer attributes.
  61.                   Enhancements are being made for the support of transaction
  62.            windows.  The CT Definition/2 dialog manager provides the ability to
  63.            change color of any of the transaction window controls.  This allows
  64.            for individual field control colors to be set as was done previously
  65.            with CT/DOS.  Also provided via presentation parameters is the
  66.            ability to set up fonts for individual fields except outline fonts.
  67.            Support for multiple selection list boxes with CT Definition/2 and
  68.            Runtime/2 is now provided.
  69.                   Display services now supports bit maps or presentation
  70.            graphics in a transaction window that can cause an immediate change
  71.            based on a new value entered in an input field.  The bit maps will
  72.            also be moved or sized as the window is moved or sized.
  73.                   To enhance programmer productivity, CT includes the
  74.            flexibility to process array elements individually, the rows being
  75.            accessible as variables at individual field level.  Arrays can be
  76.            defined within transactions, windows, panels, menu objects, record
  77.            formats, messages, and programmed operator.  New CT verbs including
  78.            CASE, REPEAT, DO FOR, DO UNTIL and DO WHILE have added to allow for
  79.            structured coding within the CT transaction language.  Also, other CT
  80.            verbs have been added.  The ability for the customer to modify the
  81.            translate table for ASCII-EBCDIC and EBCDIC-ASCII has been added.
  82.            The supported record format types have been expanded to include the
  83.            five types of field formats (monetary, date, time, account, and
  84.            edit).
  85.                   To help with program structuring, a new routine has been added
  86.            to CT that will support the calling of either a transaction or from
  87.            an externally invoked "C" routine within by the user.  The
  88.            transaction would then execute as normal and control would return
  89.            back to the calling "C" routine.  Also, a standard "C" header file
  90.            for interfacing with CT when using the Microsoft (1) C development
  91.            environment is available to ease the development effort.

  93.                   To improve end user productivity, enhancements are being made
  94.            in the CT printer support.  The ability to format data so that when
  95.            reports are generated they can be browsed prior to printing is now
  96.            included.  Support is included for parallel printers shared over the
  97.            local area network (LAN).  With this support, the user is now able to
  98.            obtain and release document printers.  CT is now able to batch
  99.            multiple prints to the shared LAN printer as one print job within a
  100.            CT transaction.
  101.                   With CT/DOS Runtime, the capability is provided for running
  102.            transactions, outside of a user session.  This capability also allows
  103.            for transactions to be initiated at a pre-determined time.
  104.            GROWTH ENABLEMENT
  105.            The architectures employed by CT allow customers the capability to
  106.            readily grow their retail branch finance applications.
  107.                   The programmed operator function is now available for Consumer
  108.            Transaction/2.  Programmed operator provides CT Runtime/2 a means of
  109.            interacting with 3270-based host applications under program control
  110.            via the OS/2 Communications Manager EHLLAPI (emulator high level
  111.            language application programming interface).  Programmed operator
  112.            definition via CT Definition/2 creates procedures and responses while
  113.            working interactively with the host screens to define and test these
  114.            items.  CT Runtime/2 advanced emulation allows the financial end user
  115.            to interact directly with the host to resolve possible unanticipated
  116.            sequences.  Programmed operator with CT/DOS Runtime continues to
  117.            interact with 3270-based host applications under program control.
  118.                   For LU_0 communication support, enhancements are provided to
  119.            CT/2 to allow more comprehensive control with SNA LU_0 formatted
  120.            messages.
  121.                   Additional printer function including support of the IBM 4722
  122.            Model 3 Read Encode Magnetic Stripe (REMS) printer.
  123.                   To provide growth for handling the multiple types of
  124.            international currency needs, CT can now handle monetary fields of up
  125.            to 18 places.
  126.                   To improve performance on DOS, indexed access to the operator
  127.            file is provided for items such as operator signon and supervisor
  128.            override.  Also, the ability to selectively read from the duplicate
  129.            file on the local drive in the secondary path is included.
  130.                   The implementation of a transaction library cache in CT/DOS
  131.            Runtime will enhance performance by reducing the time to read library
  132.            members.  Since a cache is self tuning, customers need not make
  133.            decisions as to which transactions to either make resident or to
  134.            include in a primary library in the virtual disk space.
  135.                   The installation procedure for CT/DOS Runtime and CT/DOS
  136.            Platform has been improved to make the install process easier.
  137.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION
  138.            As the customers' needs grow, CT protects and extends the customer
  139.            investment.  The Remote Override function is now provided in the OS/2
  140.            environment, in addition to the DOS environment.  Remote Override is
  141.            compatible between OS/2 and DOS, and hence, enables DOS teller
  142.            workstations to request overrides by an OS/2 supervisor workstation.
  143.            In CT/DOS, the supervisor can now update branch totals.
  144.                   CT Definition/2 and CT Runtime/2 can now also operate with the
  145.            LAN Distributed Platform/2 (LANDP/2), and CT/DOS Runtime can also
  146.            operate with the LAN Distributed Platform/DOS (LANDP/DOS).
  147.                   New CT/2 verbs are provided with options of having pool
  148.            variables saved from a pool to a file, restored from a file to a
  149.            pool, and deleted from a pool.  One of the parameters on the verbs, a
  150.            wildcard pattern, is used to match with the variable names.
  151.                   The ability to use different pad characters for CT Runtime/2
  152.            and CT/DOS Runtime to fill the Programmed Operator host variables is
  153.            included as a new reserved variable.
  154.                   Enhancements are provided for the file recovery associated
  155.            with handling user journal files.  In CT/DOS, workstation recovery
  156.            from backup mode while other workstations are in normal mode is
  157.            provided.
  158.                   Existing IBM 4700 Finance Communications Systems customers
  159.            should consider installation of CT/DOS with IBM 4700 Personal
  160.            Computer Application Services (PCAS) Version 2.1.  SNA LU_2 Protocol
  161.            can be used with this connection.  FBSS or LANDP/DOS is not required
  162.            when this PCAS connection is used.  Programmed operator support is
  163.            included, but certain other restrictions between CT and PCAS apply
  164.            including:
  165.            o   Remote override
  166.            o   Sharing of financial input devices among workstations
  167.            o   File recovery feature.
  168.            BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
  169.            Support for CT Definition/2 and Runtime/2 and CT/DOS Runtime is
  170.            provided with IBM's latest level of IBM OS/2 Version 2.0 software
  171.            offerings, to meet customers business solution needs for orderly
  172.            transitions.  A single instance of CT Definition/2 and Runtime/2 will
  173.            operate with OS/2 Version 2.0 in 16-bit compatibility mode while a
  174.            single instance of CT/DOS Runtime will operate with OS/2 Version 2 in
  175.            multiple virtual DOS machines (MVDM) mode.
  176.            SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
  177.            Callable operator profile maintenance control functions that allow
  178.            for addition modification, deletion, and listing of users are now
  179.            available.  These modifications use a parameter based interface via
  180.            dialog manager variables.  In implementing this additional level of
  181.            security, the characteristics of existing CT Runtime are not altered.
  182.                   To provide improved system management, the number of invalid
  183.            password attempts is now limited.  Also, the capability is added to
  184.            force the permanent sign-off of another user who had not previously
  185.            signed off.  With CT/DOS Runtime, a security violation audit trail is
  186.            provided.

  188.            Transaction Definition/2 and Runtime/2 are CUA-compliant

  316.            Consumer Transaction Definition/2 for IBM SAA Consumer Transaction
  317.            Runtime/2 and IBM Consumer Transaction/DOS Runtime, support using
  318.            CT/DOS Definition is no longer provided.
  319.                   CT Runtime/2 supports all of the functions of CT/DOS Runtime
  320.            with the exception of file recovery of executable programs, which is
  321.            not provided due to OS/2 Extended Services (ES) architectural
  322.            limitation.
  323.                   Support of CT/DOS Runtime in OS/2 Version 2 MVDMs is dependent
  324.            on availability of required device driver modules for support of
  325.            financial devices in this environment.
  326.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  The performance of CT/DOS Runtime
  327.            Version 1.3 has been observed to be significantly improved over
  328.            CT/DOS Runtime Version 1.2 in our IBM laboratory testing
  329.            environments.

  342.            INSTALLABILITY
  343.            PACKAGING:  SAA Consumer Transaction/2 Runtime Version 1.1, SAA
  344.            Consumer Transaction/2 Definition Version 1.1, Consumer Transaction
  345.            Runtime Version 1.3, and Consumer Transaction Platform Version 1.3
  346.            are available on double-sided, 3.5-inch diskettes.  The programs are
  347.            delivered in object code only (OCO), with diskettes containing sample
  348.            transactions.  The customer may use these sample transactions as
  349.            shipped, or modify them to suit the needs of the particular
  350.            institution.  The platform functions, separately packaged under DOS,
  351.            are integrated into SAA Consumer Transaction Runtime/2, with the
  352.            platform transaction set packaged with SAA Consumer Transaction
  353.            Definition/2.

  399. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  400.                   Orders for new licenses will be accepted August 4, 1992.
  401.            Unless a later date is specified, orders entered prior to September
  402.            25, 1992, will be assigned a schedule date of October 2, 1992.
  403.            Shipment of orders will commence on the availability date.  Orders
  404.            entered after the planned availability date will be scheduled for
  405.            shipment on the Friday following the week of order entry or as soon

  542.                required.  Additional License Copies can be obtained through an
  543.                authorized remarketer.
  544.            o   Program Package Upgrade  -- program diskette with documentation.
  545.            o   Additional License Copy Upgrade- authorization  for the customer
  546.                who has a program package upgrade to make a single copy of the
  547.                program diskette and documentation.  Receipt of the invoice
  548.                authorizes the customer to make the Additional License Copy
  549.                upgrade.  The ICA must be in effect.  The customer also has the
  550.                option of ordering a Proof of Additional License Upgrade
  551.                certificate.  In which case, the ICA is not required.  Additional
  552.                License Copy Upgrade can be obtained through an authorized
  553.                remarketer.
  554.            PROGRAM UPGRADE
  555.                   The program package upgrade option allows currently licensed
  556.            users of CT Definition/2 Version 1.0, CT/DOS Definition Version 1.2,
  557.            CT Runtime/2 Version 1.0, CT/DOS Runtime Version 1.2, and Consumer
  558.            Transaction Platform Version 1.0 to obtain the new function for a
  559.            program upgrade charge.  The program upgrade to CT Definition/2
  560.            Version 1.1, CT Runtime/2 Version 1.1, CT/DOS Runtime Version 1.3,
  561.            and Consumer Transaction Platform Version 1.3 is available from
  562.            September 25, 1992.  Orders will be accepted after
  563.            September 25, 1992.  These upgrades will be available through the IBM
  564.            branch office or through IBM Authorized Industry Remarketers -- PC
  565.            certified to market IBM Authorized Advanced Products.  The remarketer
  566.            will require a Proof of License for each upgrade ordered.  The
  567.            original Proof of License is the colored front cover page, inside the
  568.            hard binder, or the separate Proof of License page in the program
  569.            package as identified by IBM to the remarketer.
  570.                   Customers may also order upgrades through the IBM branch
  571.            office using the IBM Personal Computer/System Program IBM US Upgrade
  572.            and Certification Order Form (Z720-3692) included with this
  573.            announcement.
  574.                   To receive program package upgrades at a discount, the ICA and
  575.            a Volume Discount Addendum with the appropriate volume discount
  576.            Exhibit must be in effect.
  577.                   The order may only be placed through the IBM branch office
  578.            using the IBM Personal Computer/System Program IBM US Upgrade and
  579.            Certification Order Form included with this announcement.
  580.                   To receive additional license upgrades at a discount, the ICA
