  8. Lotus Development Corporation issued the following press release to
  9. promote the availability of anticipated enhancements to Ami Pro 3.0 for
  10. OS/2.
  11.  
  12. Users who purchased Ami Pro 3.0 for OS/2 from Lotus or the SmartSuite
  13. for OS/2 from IBM or Lotus may obtain the Ami Pro update kit by calling
  14. 1-800-TRADE-UP ext. 9477 or in Canada 1-800-GO-LOTUS.  Lotus will be
  15. fulfilling all update kit requests via this toll-free number.

  17. IBM and Lotus Development will update the Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 to
  18. include the Ami Pro 3.0a enhancements.  Copies of the updated Suite will
  19. be generally available on March 11, 1994.

  22. ATLANTA, Feb. 9, 1994.    Lotus Development Corp. today announced Lotus
  23. Ami Pro 3.0a for OS/2, an update to Ami Pro 3.0 for OS/2 which shipped
  24. in November 1993. Release 3.0a includes enhancements in response to
  25. customer input.  Lotus also announced SmartSuite 1.0a for OS/2, which
  26. includes the new Ami Pro.

  28. Ami Pro 3.0a for OS/2 will ship in volume in the U.S. during the week
  29. of Feb. 14, 1994, with Lotus SmartSuite 1.0a for OS/2 to follow within
  30. two weeks.  An update kit will be available for registered users of Ami
  31. Pro 3.0 for OS/2 and SmartSuite 1.0 for OS/2. The update will preserve
  32. users' data and macros.  This kit can be obtained free of charge by
  33. calling Lotus at 1-800-TRADE-UP Ext. 9477 or in Canada 1-800-GO-LOTUS.
  34. International versions of Ami Pro 3.0a for OS/2 will be available
  35. shortly.

  38. director of product management for Lotus Word Processing Division.
  39. Release 3.0a addresses our customers needs and incorporates many of
  40. their suggestions.  We will continue to aggressively enhance Ami Pros
  41. functionality and performance to ensure that it is the highest caliber
  42. OS/2 word processor on the market."

  44. Ami Pro 3.0a for OS/2 features enhancements to all text file filters and
  45. includes a .CGM file filter. Lotus also focused on improving Ami Pro 3.0
  46. for OS/2s performance.  While the performance gains do not affect every
  47. feature in the product, they do impact important user-intensive areas.
  48. Based on internal Lotus performance benchmarks run on a 386 40-MHz
  49. system with 16MB RAM, the 3.0a release achieves significant speed
  50. enhancements, including:

  52.     *A  160%  improvement in File New,
  53.     *An  80%  improvement in File Open,
  54.     *An  80%  improvement in File Save,
  55.     *A   78%  improvement in Import ASCII, and
  56.     *A  320%  improvement in Import .BMP.

  67. Lotus Ami Pro 3.0a for OS/2 requires an IBM PC or compatible computer
  68. 386 or higher, OS/2 2.0 or 2.1, 8 MB RAM, 7-15MB hard disk space, a VGA
  69. or better, and a mouse.  Lotus SmartSuite 1.0a for OS/2 requires an IBM
  70. PC or compatible computer 386 or higher, OS/2 2.0 or 2.1, 12MB RAM,
  71. 23-35 MB hard disk space, a VGA or better monitor, high density disk
  72. drive, and a mouse.
