OS/2 2.x ADAPTER DEVICE DRIVER WORKSHOP COURSE 0S2DD303
May 20, 1993
The OS/2 2.x Adapter Device Driver Pilot Workshop will be held June 14th
through June 18th 1993, at the IBM Design Center, Boca Raton, FL.
The workshop objective is to expedite Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV)
support of OS/2 2.x, by writing Adapter Device Drivers (ADD) to support
PC hardware. This will permit the hardware to be used by multiple OS/2
applications. The Workshop will identify the protocol on how to
communicate with the kernel using the DevHlp interface. Installation
and debug techniques will also be covered.
Target Audience:
IHV programmers who code device drivers for:
a) PC I/O interfaces (which usually connect to DASD or CDROM)
b) The device interface type: SCSI or proprietary
c) Bus type: ISA, EISA, VLB, or MCA
Attendee Prerequisites:
a) Programming expertise: C and/or MASM
b) Knowledge of OS/2 1x Physical DD
(attend OS2DD101 or equivalent to meet this prerequisite)
c) Other device drivers for IHV hardware
DOS, ROM BIOS code, utilities
d) Intimate knowledge of IHV hardware & programming protocol
e) Purchased development software (MASM 5.1, MSC 6.0, DDK, OS/2 2.1)

There is no charge for this pilot workshop or class materials.
Attendee's expenses include transportation, hotel accommodations,
dinner, and any incidental expenses.
Each attendee will be assigned a fully configured OS/2 work station
for their use during the week.
You will need to bring your source code for your device driver to be
converted, a favorite text editor (if you have a preference) and any
third party software you may require for device driver development.
Attendees must bring their own PCs with development tools (editors,
disk managers, etc) that they are familiar with, to enhance the
handling of the developers equipment.
The following specs are suggested for the developers PCs:
o 386 or 486 (25 MHZ minimum recommended)
o 8 Meg memory or more (16 Meg suggested)
o VGA Display (or SVGA or XGA)
o 100 Meg hard drive or more (200 Meg suggested)
o Any additional hardware to be used for development
o OS/2 2.1 BETA installed
We are limiting the seating in this Workshop to no more than 14 people
to enhance the technical assistance, and provide a productive workshop
session.
Please complete the OS/2 Workshop Registration Form (REGISTRA.TXT on
the Device Driver BBS) by June 7th to confirm a seat in this workshop.
