  1. IBM DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA PROGRAM AVAILABLE

  5. OPPORTUNITY:    Today,  IBM  is expanding the existing DCE ON OS/2 BETA
  6.                 PROGRAM by announcing availability of  the  DISTRIBUTED
  7.                 COMPUTING  ENVIRONMENT  (DCE)  CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA.
  8.                 Function  in  the  beta  code  enables  IBM  internals,
  9.                 customer  software  developers and independent software
  10.                 vendors to gain experience with the DCE technologies in
  11.                 the WINDOWS  environment.  Further,  the  beta  program
  12.                 promotes   application   prototyping,  development  and
  13.                 testing activities while  providing  feedback  to  IBM.
  14.                 Applicants  to  the beta program will be accepted until
  15.                 5/28/93 with termination of the program on 8/31/93.
  16.                  This beta  code  should  NOT  be  used  in  production
  17.                 environments.

  19.  FEATURES and FUNCTIONS:  DCE is the Distributed Computing Environment,
  20.                 a  set  of  technologies  provided  through  the   Open
  21.                 Software    Foundation   to   enable   development   of
  22.                 distributed applications in a multi-vendor environment.
  23.  
  24.                 The IBM DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS is the implementation of
  25.                 the  Open  Software  Foundation's  DCE  version  1.0.1,
  26.                 designed  to  execute  on  a Windows 3.0 or 3.1   based
  27.                 personal computer.  The intent of DCE FOR WINDOWS  Beta
  28.                 code  is  to  interoperate  with  AIX-DCE  servers  and
  29.                 OS/2-DCE   servers.   To   date,   testing   of    this
  30.                 interoperability has been limited.

  32.                 Each  of  the  two  orderable  options within this beta
  33.                 program contain two  components,  the  DCE  CLIENT  FOR
  34.                 WINDOWS  and the DCE CLIENT SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS KIT FOR
  35.                 WINDOWS.

  37.  BETA SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The DCE  CLIENT  FOR  WINDOWS  requires  the
  38.                 following:

  42.                 ∙   IBM  (or IBM-compatible) personal computer with 386
  43.                     or 486 processor
  44.                 ∙   Hard disk with at least 5 MB of free space
  45.                 ∙   Floppy disk drive (for installation)

  47.                 ∙   Mouse
  48.                 ∙   Network adapter card
  49.                 ∙   4 MB of memory (real plus extended)
  50.                     Note: 8 MB is recommended.

  56.                     (version 5.02 is recommended)

  64.                     Please  note  that  the  DCE  CLIENT  FOR   WINDOWS
  65.                     supports  Version  1.1  WinSock-compliant  and some
  66.                     other common non-Winsock-compliant TCP transports.

  68.                 The DCE CLIENT SOFTWARE  DEVELOPERS  KIT  requires  the
  69.                 following:

  96.                 ∙   Microsoft  Windows  3.x  Software  Development  Kit
  97.                     (version 3.1 is recommended)
  98.                 ∙   IBM DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS must be installed

  100.  ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:  The  Beta package can be ordered today, for no
  101.                 charge electronic delivery  only,  facilitated  through
  102.                 yourself (if you are an IBM internal) or your local IBM
  103.                 marketing  rep.  (otherwise). This Beta is available in
  104.                 the United States, Canada, Latin America and EMEA.  The
  105.                 Beta  contains  code,  documentation  and   a   license
  106.                 allowing  installation  on  up  to  5  machines.   Beta
  107.                 program interfaces and documentation are  available  in
  108.                 U.S. English only.

  110.                 The following beta program order options are available:
  111.  
  112.                 ∙   Option  A  -  DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA With User
  113.                     Data Privacy (For USA/CANADA ONLY)
  114.  
  115.                     This  option  contains  data  privacy  support  for
  116.                     optionally  encrypting user data passed in a remote
  117.                     procedure call. The full  DES  algorithms  and  its
  118.                     distribution  are  controlled  by the United States
  119.                     Export Regulation Office. Beta participants  should
  120.                     not  export  this package outside the United States
  121.                     (or re-export it outside of Canada).

  123.                 ∙   Option B - DCE CLIENT FOR WINDOWS BETA Without User
  124.                     Data Privacy (For EMEA/LATIN  AMERICA  as  well  as
  125.                     USA/CANADA distribution)

  127.                     This  option does not contain data privacy support.
  128.                     The package contains limited DES algorithms.

  130.                 Both  options   contain:   program   diskette   images,
  131.                 publications  files  (pre-formatted for printing on IBM
  132.                 3820 printers), and a diskette label file.

  134.                 To obtain a Beta package in the USA and CANADA requires
  135.                 a two step process as follows:
  136.  
  137.                 1.  Contact your IBM  marketing  rep.  and  submit  the
  138.                     following  information  via  FAX to (512) 838-2433,
  139.                     Attn: "Dept 459 - DCE WINDOWS"  or submit  a  PROFS
  140.                     note to DCEREQ at AUSVM1:

  142.                     ∙   Specify ordering OPTION A or B for DCE WINDOWS.

  144.                     ∙   Company Name.

  146.                     ∙   Shipping Address.

  148.                     ∙   Company Technical Name and Phone Number.

  150.                     ∙   IBM Marketing Rep Name.

  154.                     Upon  receipt  of this information, the appropriate
  155.                     License Agreement will be sent to you or  your  IBM
  156.                     Marketing  Rep  (for  delivery  to  you)  for  your
  157.                     review.

  159.                 2.  Review the License  Agreement,  complete  the  form
  160.                     (that will be included with the license) and return
  161.                     it via FAX to complete the process. (Disapproval of
  162.                     the  License  must  also  be  communicated and will
  163.                     cancel the order).

  165.                     Upon approval completion,  the  appropriate  Option
  166.                     package  will  be sent to you or your IBM Marketing
  167.                     Rep. (for delivery to you).
  168.  
  169.                 To  obtain  a  Beta  package  in EMEA or Latin America,
  170.                 contact your local IBM Marketing Representative.

  172.  TECHNICAL SUPPORT: All beta participants receive  no-charge  technical
  173.                 support  during  this  beta  program  through forums on
  174.                 Compuserve and the OS/2 Bulletin Board (OS2BBS) or  the
  175.                 IBMPC   disk.   IBM  support  will  be  provided  on  a
  176.                 'reasonable efforts' basis.

  178.                 ∙   To communicate via Compuserve, type "GO OS2DF2" and
  179.                     use the DCE message section to contact IBM.

  181.                 ∙   To  communicate  via  IBM's  network,  select   the
  182.                     filename  OS2DCE  from  the OS2 Question and Answer
  183.                     Bulletin Boards on OS2BBS,  or  select  the  OS2DCE
  184.                     CFORUM on the IBMPC disk to contact IBM.
