  44. IBM AntiVirus is a family of products that continues to provide
  45. comprehensive anti-virus protection for all your PC environments,
  46. including DOS, Windows (R), OS/2 (R), Windows 95, Windows NT (TM),
  47. and Novell NetWare.
  48.  
  49. IBM AntiVirus for NetWare is significantly enhanced with features for
  50. remote operation and remote configuration across your network from a
  51. single workstation; the initial distribution of IBM AntiVirus from a
  52. single NetWare server to the remaining NetWare servers is now
  53. automated.  IBM AntiVirus for NetWare can be "pushed" from a single
  54. server to other NetWare servers.

  56. IBM AntiVirus for Windows NT -- previously only available in the
  57. Enterprise Edition -- is added to the Desktop Edition, which is now
  58. delivered on a single CD-ROM.

  60. A license provision, which allows non-concurrent use of an install of
  61. IBM AntiVirus in the workplace and in the employee's home, makes it a
  62. superior value.

  64. Upgrade Subscription Plans

  66. With over six new viruses introduced each day, and the increased use
  67. of networking and the Internet, the importance of using advanced,
  68. up-to-date virus protection is critical.  The Upgrade Subscription

  120. DESCRIPTION
  121.  
  122. IBM AntiVirus Desktop Edition
  123.  
  124. IBM AntiVirus Desktop Edition is a comprehensive anti-virus product
  125. for DOS, Windows, OS/2 , Windows 95, and -- now added -- Windows NT
  126. PCs.
  127.  
  128. The look and feel of a number of the components of the Desktop
  129. Edition is improved; new user-friendly documentation and
  130. context-sensitive help is added.  In addition, IBM AntiVirus for
  131. Windows 3.1 now loads without DOS TSRs.  This saves memory for those
  132. users who need more real memory on their Windows 3.1 systems.  There
  133. is no longer any need to restart Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 after
  134. virus signature updates.
  135.  
  136. Now delivered on a single CD-ROM (diskettes available, if required),
  137. IBM AntiVirus is developed by the world-renowned anti-virus
  138. scientists at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center and is designed to
  139. detect and remove viruses from your computer as simply and reliably
  140. as possible.
  141.  
  142. IBM AntiVirus is "install and forget" protection for your computer.
  143. As soon as it is installed, IBM AntiVirus begins protecting your
  144. system from being infected by viruses.  After installation it remains
  145. running, preventing common viruses from becoming active in your
  146. computer and then spreading to diskettes or other computers.  In
  147. addition, IBM AntiVirus can be run automatically, at prescheduled
  148. times, to check all of your computer hard disks for viruses.
  149.  
  150. If your system becomes infected, IBM AntiVirus has the ability to
  151. allow the infected program to run as though it is not infected.  The
  152. ability to run critical applications that have been infected by a
  153. virus -- without any fear of spreading the infection or doing damage
  154. -- is indispensable.  IBM AntiVirus also helps you remove known and
  155. previously unknown viruses and do so safely without leaving damaged
  156. files or boot records.
  157.  
  158. IBM's expertise and careful analysis of viruses have been
  159. incorporated into the design of IBM AntiVirus.  Almost every virus
  160. you encounter in an actual infection can be disinfected safely,
  161. including the Word Concept and many other macro viruses.  In fact,
  162. IBM AntiVirus excels at safe disinfection.  "Full verification" is
  163. the process by which the detected virus is analyzed byte-for-byte to
  164. determine that it is exactly as expected.  Only after passing this
  165. test will the virus be reliably removed, without damage to the file
  166. or boot record.
  167.  
  168. Even if your system is infected with a rare or previously unknown
  169. virus, IBM AntiVirus can often help you disinfect your system.  IBM
  170. AntiVirus has an option during the install, to enable generic
  171. disinfection, a patent-pending technology that records information
  172. about your files for later use in disinfection.  If a file is
  173. infected with a rare or unknown virus, generic disinfection attempts
  174. to use the recorded information to reconstruct the original
  175. uninfected file.  If generic disinfection verifies that the
  176. reconstruction exactly matches the original, the file will be
  177. disinfected safely.  Otherwise, the file is left alone and IBM
  178. AntiVirus informs you that it could not be safely disinfected.  In
  179. neither case will you be left with damaged or incorrectly repaired
  180. files.

  182. No matter what type of virus you have, IBM AntiVirus will never
  183. damage files or boot records in an attempt to remove it.  In such
  184. cases where IBM AntiVirus is unable to safely disinfect, you have the
  185. option to erase the infected files or replace the infected boot
  186. records.  All actions are recorded in the ASCII log file of your IBM
  187. AntiVirus session that you can view or print at a later time.

  189. IBM AntiVirus Enterprise Edition for Networks
  190.  
  191. IBM AntiVirus Enterprise Edition for Networks is a powerful set of
  192. programs targeted for small- to large-size businesses.  It includes
  193. all of the features of the Desktop Edition and includes the following
  194. additional software:

  196. o  IBM AntiVirus for NetWare
  197.  
  198.    IBM AntiVirus for NetWare provides anti-virus protection for
  199.    servers running Novell NetWare.  IBM AntiVirus for NetWare is a
  200.    NetWare Loadable Module (NLM), capable of scanning servers running
  201.    NetWare 3.1x or 4.xx.  Your server can be scanned for viruses in
  202.    real time, at prescheduled times, or at the touch of a key.

  204.    Some of the new features of our remote operation support for IBM
  205.    AntiVirus for NetWare are:

  207.    -  All IBM AntiVirus for NetWare functions for many servers can be
  208.       controlled from a single workstation.

  210.    -  Remote operation is performed in real time over the network.

  212.    -  The remote operation interface is presented in the language of
  213.       the operator, even if the server is based on a different
  214.       national language.

  216.    The new remote configuration support features:

  219.       the network from a single workstation.

  221.    -  Duplicating the configuration of a single server to a group of
  222.       servers is automated.

  227.    -  Servers based on different national languages can be configured

  230.    -  The distribution of arbitrary collections of settings to

  236.    Distribution of IBM AntiVirus in a NetWare environment has been
  237.    significantly enhanced with the introduction of server-to-server
  238.    distribution with the following features:

  240.    -  The initial distribution of IBM AntiVirus from a single NetWare
  241.       server to the remaining NetWare servers in an enterprise is
  242.       automated.
  243.  
  244.    -  IBM AntiVirus for NetWare updates can be "pushed" from a single
  245.       server to other NetWare servers selected by the operator.

  247. o  IBM AntiVirus for NetWare Workstation Alert Program
  248.  
  249.    This component of IBM AntiVirus for NetWare allows all of your
  250.    NetWare servers to be monitored from a single OS/2 or Windows 3.1,
  251.    Windows 95, or Windows NT workstation.  In addition to receiving
  252.    virus alerts, the IBM AntiVirus alert programs can generate a list
  253.    of all the NetWare servers on your network and display a report
  254.    indicating which servers are protected by IBM AntiVirus for
  255.    NetWare.  You can view a detailed listing of the IBM AntiVirus for
  256.    NetWare options in effect and the IBM AntiVirus for NetWare log
  257.    files on each server.  The IBM AntiVirus alert programs are
  258.    configured by default to warn you of any NetWare servers on your
  259.    network that are not protected by IBM AntiVirus for NetWare.

  261. o  IBM AntiVirus Administrator
  262.  
  263.    IBM AntiVirus Administrator is a program designed to let you
  264.    control the behavior of IBM AntiVirus in your enterprise.  Through
  265.    the use of profiles, IBM AntiVirus Administrator lets you tailor
  266.    the settings and behavior of all your IBM AntiVirus clients,
  267.    including limiting the users' ability to perform automatic
  268.    disinfection.  It now has support for all IBM AntiVirus profile
  269.    tags, which eliminates the need for manually editing profiles for
  270.    customization.

  272. IBM AntiVirus Enterprise Edition for Networks can be distributed
  273. almost any way you distribute information in your enterprise.  It can
  274. be distributed via shared file server, with Lotus Notes (R), on a
  275. corporate intranet Web server, via FTP, using e-mail, or on
  276. diskettes.  IBM AntiVirus fully supports UNC file names, making
  277. installation from shared file servers an easy task.  A customization
  278. program is provided that helps you create installation sets that
  279. reflect your enterprise's anti-virus policies and procedures.  A
  280. "diskette" program lets you create customized IBM AntiVirus
  281. installation diskettes.
  282.  
  283. The version management system makes it easier to administer upgrades
  284. to IBM AntiVirus in an enterprise.  Programs are included that permit
  285. automated updates and upgrades to newer versions of IBM AntiVirus.

  287. IBM AntiVirus Upgrade Subscription Plans
  288.  
  289. With over six new viruses being introduced every day, it is
  290. imperative that anti-virus software be kept constantly updated.
  291. Current licensees of IBM AntiVirus programs who enroll in an Upgrade
  292. Subscription Plan receive all upgrades of the programs for the
  293. duration of their subscription.  IBM AntiVirus Desktop Edition
  294. customers receive upgrades for all of the operating system platforms
  295. currently included in the Desktop Edition.  Enterprise Edition
  296. customers automatically receive upgrades of all programs currently
  297. available, including any new platforms introduced since the last
  298. upgrade.  The upgrades consist of the programs on CD-ROM (with an
  299. Emergency Diskette included), and all related documentation, as
  300. applicable.  They are sent to customers as each upgrade is released.
  301.  
  302. The upgrades consist of more than simply virus signature updates.
  303.  
  304. These upgrades consist of all enhancements, error corrections, and
  305. new detection and disinfection techniques developed since the last
  306. upgrade.  Many of the new macro and polymorphic viruses cannot be
  307. detected by signature alone; sophisticated programming is necessary.

  309. have at your disposal the latest technology developed by the
