Overview
VoiceType(TM) for OS/2(R) Warp Enhancement strengthens the VoiceType
support included in OS/2 Warp Version 4. This enhancement gives
professionals who dictate the ability to delay correcting their
dictation. There is no need to stop and make corrections as you are
dictating. You can correct the dictation when you are ready or
delegate the correcting to someone else.
These VoiceType enhancements also provide the installation routine
you need to install industry language vocabularies for industries
such as Journalism, Medical, and Legal. The industry-specific
vocabularies broaden an already-extensive general office vocabulary
and can provide improved dictation productivity in these professions.
IBM offers the following U.S. versions of industry vocabularies:
o VoiceType Vocabulary for Journalism Dictation
o VoiceType Vocabulary for Emergency Medicine Dictation
o VoiceType Vocabulary for Radiology Dictation
o VoiceType Vocabulary for Legal Dictation
These industry vocabularies are available through qualified
BESTeam(R) resellers who specialize in VoiceType.
The BESTeam resellers also provide fee-based services aimed at
optimizing your speech environment.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Specified Operating Environment
Hardware Requirements: Minimum recommended configuration:
o A PS/2(R), ValuePoint(TM), Aptiva(TM), ThinkPad(R), or
IBM-compatible PC with a 90MHz Pentium processor with 256K L2
Cache
o At least 16MB of memory (RAM)
All configurations also require:
o At least 30MB of available disk space, depending on the language
chosen
o A VoiceType-supported industry sound card (SoundBlaster 16 or 100%
compatible or MWAVE(R) sound card)
o A microphone (a noise-canceling microphone)
Software Requirements: This licensed program is released to work
with OS/2 Warp Version 4, or later, unless otherwise stated.
For information on OS/2 Warp Version 4, refer to Software
Announcement 296-375, dated September 24, 1996.
Compatibility: VoiceType for OS/2 Warp Enhancement is compatible
with applications that are compatible with the VoiceType support in
OS/2 Warp Version 4.
Limitations: VoiceType for OS/2 Warp Enhancement is not compatible
with VoiceType 3.0 for Windows 95.
Performance Considerations: Speech recognition requires significant
system resources to maximize response. Particular attention should
be paid to the system requirements, which should be considered
minimum system requirements. Performance may be influenced by many
factors but three key areas are: processor power, available memory,
and virtual memory space. Machines with faster processor speeds
respond quicker to spoken commands.
If you use relatively large programs, such as a word processor, with
the speech recognition system, then sufficient RAM for both programs
is useful to prevent excessive swapping. In addition, sufficient
contiguous disk space and a 32-bit file system greatly improve the
ability to do swapping rapidly.
Refer to the Technical Information section for the recommended
hardware configuration.
