  26. Overview
  27.  
  28. BookManager(R) READ for OS/2(R), Version 2.1, an upgrade to the
  29. existing version, includes the following enhancements:
  30.  
  31. o  Linking to references in other books on the bookshelf
  32. o  Linking to references on the Internet via URLs
  33. o  The ability to reflow the text when a window is resized
  34. o  Bookcase management
  35.  
  36. BookManager READ is a member of the BookManager family used to build
  37. and read softcopy publications.
  38.  
  39. BookManager READ uses technology introduced in the BookManager
  40. BookServer products.  A Web browser shipped with the product provides
  41. the user interface for BookManager READ.  This allows a consistent
  42. look for reading all BookManager electronic books, whether they are
  43. located on a workstation, or on the Internet.
  44.  
  45. New packaging for BookManager workstation READ products has
  46. simplified ordering and added flexibility.  You can now order the
  47. READ workstation products by providing a single number regardless of
  48. the operating platform or required languages.  Distributed on CD-ROM
  49. or electronically downloaded from the Internet, the package contains
  50. translations for all languages supported and includes the following:

  94. build your organization's documents into electronic book form.  With
  95. its powerful easy-to-use search feature, your readers can be in touch
  96. with the information they need in a matter of seconds.

  98. BookManager READ puts power in the hands of the reader.  A
  99. BookManager book is a single file that includes all text and graphics
  100. in a highly compressed format.  Built using any of the BookManager
  101. BUILD products, it can be read using any of the BookManager READ or
  102. BookServer products.

  104. BookManager READ allows your readers to view books on either the
  105. Windows, OS/2, AIX, or DOS platform.  Each product offers patented
  106. linguistic-based searches, hypertext links, creation and viewing of
  107. margin notes, placing bookmarks, and grouping books into bookshelves.

  109. All READ products use the familiar book metaphor that preserves the
  110. characteristics of hardcopy books, and makes it easy to use.

  131. The new BookManager READ CD-ROM (84H1526) replaces, for ordering
  132. purposes, the prior version, (83H9450).  The U.S. English version
  133. will be available beginning July 31, 1996, and the translated version
  134. on October 31, 1996.  Until October 31, 1996, order 83H9450 (or its
  135. related Additional License part number) if you want a translated
  136. BookManager READ product.

  140. All product related publications are included in softcopy format with
  141. the product.

  143. Displayable Softcopy Publications:  IBM BookManager publications are
  144. offered in displayable softcopy format on the same media as the basic
  145. machine-readable material.  These displayable manuals can be used
  146. with the BookManager READ or BookManager Library Reader(TM) licensed

  258. BookManager workstation READ products are distributed on CD-ROM.  The
  259. OS/2, Windows, and DOS versions can also be downloaded from the
  260. Internet.  Product information on BookManager products as well as
  261. ordering information and downloading links are available on the
  262. BookManager Home Page.  The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the

  267. one of several entry points for BookManager products.  Hypertext
  268. fields on the home page include links for product and ordering
  269. information.  When ordering information is selected, the Product
  270. Download WWW Server will give you instructions on how to unpack and
  271. execute the Electronic Showcase tool.  If you have not previously run
  272. Electronic Showcase or CD Showcase(TM), you will be asked to specify
  273. your country so that the following product information can be
  274. presented in a suitable language:

  293. The customer calls the phone number appropriate for his country from
  294. the list in the product information notebook.

  296. Prior to purchasing the product, the product license agreement is
  297. displayed.  The user must accept the license agreement.  The user
  298. enters the customer number and key, and clicks on the Save button to
  299. save the key and unlock the product.  Once the key has been saved the
  300. user must press the copy button in Electronic Showcase to copy and
  301. decrypt the product files onto the user's hard drive.  The product
  302. files consist of a packed file containing the product and a README
  303. file containing instructions on how to install the product.

  305. For customers who have an existing IBM account on file, IBM will
  306. process an order following normal ordering instructions and credit
  307. verification.  The de-cryption key will be distributed after order
  308. processing.  For those customers who do not have customer information
  309. on file with IBM, IBM will process the customer information and, upon
  310. completion of the processing, issue the de-cryption key.

  331. appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  332. facilities.

  456. BookManager READ products will be available July 31, 1996.  Orders
  457. will be accepted after July 31, 1996.  These upgrades will be
  458. available through IBM Authorized Personal Computer Dealers and
  459. Industry Remarketers -- Personal Computers certified to market IBM
  460. Authorized Advanced Products.  The remarketer will require a Proof of
  461. License for each upgrade ordered.  The original Proof of License is
  462. the colored front cover page (inside the hard binder) or the separate
  463. Proof of License page in the program package as identified by IBM to
  464. the remarketer.
