Overview
BookManager(R) READ for OS/2(R), Version 2.1, an upgrade to the
existing version, includes the following enhancements:
o Linking to references in other books on the bookshelf
o Linking to references on the Internet via URLs
o The ability to reflow the text when a window is resized
o Bookcase management
BookManager READ is a member of the BookManager family used to build
and read softcopy publications.
BookManager READ uses technology introduced in the BookManager
BookServer products. A Web browser shipped with the product provides
the user interface for BookManager READ. This allows a consistent
look for reading all BookManager electronic books, whether they are
located on a workstation, or on the Internet.
New packaging for BookManager workstation READ products has
simplified ordering and added flexibility. You can now order the
READ workstation products by providing a single number regardless of
the operating platform or required languages. Distributed on CD-ROM
or electronically downloaded from the Internet, the package contains
translations for all languages supported and includes the following:
o IBM BookManager READ for OS/2, Version 2.1
o IBM BookManager READ for Windows+, Version 2.0
o IBM BookManager READ/DOS, Version 1.2.1
o IBM BookManager READ/6000 Version 1.2
o IBM BookManager Index Utility Version 2.1 for OS/2
Each license of the BookManager READ product allows you to install
one of the four READ products in the language of your choice.
Additional licenses are required if you need more than one READ
product or language.
All BookManager products are YEAR 2000(TM) compliant.
Intended Customers
BookManager READ is ideal as a component of an enterprise wide
softcopy publication solution. BookManager READ allows softcopy
manuals to be read on standalone workstations such as personal
computers and laptops. BookManager READ is part of an overall
BookManager solution in which BookManager BUILD, READ and BookServer
provide an overall solution to managing the distribution and updating
of softcopy publications.
Key Prerequisites
BookManager READ can be used on a high end personal computer running
OS/2, Windows, DOS or AIX(R).

DESCRIPTION
The Information Age is here and we are faced with an ever increasing
amount of information. And now with BookManager from IBM, you can
build your organization's documents into electronic book form. With
its powerful easy-to-use search feature, your readers can be in touch
with the information they need in a matter of seconds.
BookManager READ puts power in the hands of the reader. A
BookManager book is a single file that includes all text and graphics
in a highly compressed format. Built using any of the BookManager
BUILD products, it can be read using any of the BookManager READ or
BookServer products.
BookManager READ allows your readers to view books on either the
Windows, OS/2, AIX, or DOS platform. Each product offers patented
linguistic-based searches, hypertext links, creation and viewing of
margin notes, placing bookmarks, and grouping books into bookshelves.
All READ products use the familiar book metaphor that preserves the
characteristics of hardcopy books, and makes it easy to use.
Imagine the productivity boost you'll see when your readers won't
have to thumb through pounds of paper to find the information they
need. With BookManger, it's on the screen, on demand.
EDUCATION SUPPORT
The appropriate curriculum will be updated, as necessary, to include
the enhancements described in this announcement.
Details of the education support will be provided by planned

Descriptions of all classroom and self-study courses are available.

education catalogs, schedules and enrollments.
