  51. The new TME 10 NetFinity(TM) Server, Version 4.0, for OS/2(R) is part
  52. of IBM's family of Software Servers.  These modular application
  53. servers enable you to rapidly implement client/server applications
  54. and extend application capabilities to meet current and future
  55. business requirements.
  56.  
  57. With TME as the architectural foundation, Tivoli is integrating TME
  58. and IBM's SystemView(R) products to create the industry's first and
  59. only open, comprehensive, end-to-end systems and network management
  60. solution.  This new  product line will be named "TME 10" and will be
  61. marketed under the Tivoli name, which is now IBM's strategic systems
  62. management offering.

  64. The TME 10 NetFinity Server provides an affordable, comprehensive
  65. solution for managing your distributed local area network (LAN)
  66. environment.  TME 10 NetFinity Server includes all the functions of
  67. SystemView for OS/2 Version 1.1, plus usability improvements and new
  68. functions.  It also now supports the NetManage Chameleon TCP/IP
  69. communication protocol.  The TME 10 NetFinity Server provides host
  70. connectivity (MVS(R), AIX(R)), virus scanning, license metering,
  71. enhanced RAID management, alert profiles, LAN management through the
  72. World Wide Web, an upload software images utility (CID preparation),
  73. DiskCamera enhancements, and migration and coexistence with
  74. SystemView for OS/2 Version 1.1, and with SystemView for OS/2 bundled
  75. in Warp Server Version 4.0.

  99. To meet today's need for software that is easy to install, use, and
  100. operate while working with existing systems, IBM has taken proven
  101. software technology and enhanced it with additional function,
  102. integrated packaging, and simpler terms and conditions.
  103.  
  104. TME 10 NetFinity Server Key Functions
  105.  
  106. o  SystemView for OS/2 Version 1.1, including DiskCamera and CID Prep
  107.    enhancements, and TME 10 NetFinity Version 4.0 integration
  108.  
  109.    The current SystemView for OS/2 Version 1.1 and TME 10 NetFinity
  110.    Version 4.0 clients are supported by the new TME 10 NetFinity
  111.    Server manager.  Once migrated to the TME 10 NetFinity Server
  112.    manager, clients can be updated using the software distribution
  113.    function.
  114.  
  115. o  Software Distribution connection to AIX and MVS
  116.  
  117.    The connect capability provides distribution from MVS or AIX to
  118.    LANs managed by TME 10 NetFinity Server.  Distributed LANs,
  119.    managed by TME 10 NetFinity Server, are connected over a SNA
  120.    backbone to an MVS host or over TCP/IP to an AIX host for software
  121.    distribution.

  123.    NetView(R) DM for MVS, or Software Distribution for AIX is
  124.    required at the MVS or AIX site.  One or more administrators
  125.    responsible for the software distribution must reside at the MVS
  126.    or AIX site and work with the NetView DM for MVS, or Software
  127.    Distribution for AIX User Interface.

  129. o  Exporting of data such as hardware and software inventory
  130.    information and alerts to a database, either DB2/2(TM) or Lotus

  138.    The APPC Configuration SmartGuide for TME 10 NetFinity Server
  139.    provides a smart way to configure an APPC link between the
  140.    software distribution server and the NetView DM for MVS system.

  142.    Configuring APPC communications involves setting values for
  143.    parameters used concurrently by different communications
  144.    interfaces.  The APPC Configuration SmartGuide saves users the
  145.    trouble of having to enter the same name or value more than once.
  146.    The user enters the required value, and the tool takes care of
  147.    placing it where it is needed.

  149. o  SystemView license use administration for OS/2 integration
  150.  
  151.    This tool provides network/license administrators with the
  152.    functions to monitor the license use compliance of the
  153.    applications installed in their networks.  The following

  255. Supply Before Buy
  256.  
  257. The license for TME 10 NetFinity Server Supply Before Buy terminates
  258. 60 DAYS after the first run of the product.
  259.  
  260. Upon termination, customers agree to destroy all copies of the
  261. programs.  Licenses can be terminated at any time, destroying all
  262. copies of the programs.
  263.  
  264. If the product is ordered, customers can continue to use it by
  265. downloading from the CD-ROM and installing the production licenses.
  266. Not all of the product must be installed, only the production
  267. licenses.  In practice, only two files must be copied.
  268.  
  269. A copy of this trial code will also be available on the Internet
  270. (http://www.tivoli.com) starting on the general availability date.

  272. PRODUCT POSITIONING
  273.  
  274. IBM offers several products for the OS/2 environment that provide
  275. similar function to TME 10 NetFinity Server 4.0 and allow customers
  276. to manage multivendor servers, desktops, and networks.  These
  277. products include:
  278.  
  279. o  NetFinity and TME 10 NetFinity
  280. o  SystemView for OS/2 in Warp Server Version 4.0
  281. o  Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) (now, TME 10 Remote
  282.    Control)
  283. o  NetView Distribution Manager for OS/2 (NVDM/2) (also available as
  284.    part of TME 10 Software Distribution)
  285. o  SystemView License Use Management Run-time
  286.  
  287.  
  288. NetFinity and TME 10 NetFinity
  289.  
  290. TME 10 NetFinity is the foundation product for TME 10 NetFinity
  291. Server.  It provides asset inventory, proactive PC and Server
  292. monitoring, end user help tools, hardware management, and many other
  293. functions.  It is a multiplatform product that can have a management
  294. platform that runs on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or Windows NT, in
  295. addition to OS/2.  The manager component of TME 10 NetFinity Server
  296. runs only on OS/2 and adds full remote control, software
  297. distribution, anti-virus, and license management to the TME 10
  298. NetFinity product.  Both of them can have the ability to be accessed
  299. from a Web browser.
  300.  
  301. TME 10 NetFinity is the entry solution, which we provide on all of
  302. our PC servers and commercial desktops, and some ThinkPads, free of
  303. charge.  You can manage NetFinity clients from TME 10 NetFinity
  304. Server.
  305.  
  306. Customers should select NetFinity rather than TME 10 NetFinity Server
  307. as the manager if they do not need the additional functions of Remote
  308. Workstation Control, AntiVirus, Software Distribution and
  309. Preparation, or License Use Management, or if they need to manage
  310. from a Windows-based environment.
  311.  
  312. SystemView in Warp Server Version 4.0
  313.  
  314. SystemView in Warp Server Version 4.0 is the same as the stand-alone
  315. SystemView for OS/2 Version 1.1 product.  It is a subset of the
  316. functions provided by TME 10 NetFinity Server Version 4.0, except
  317. that it is based on NetFinity 3.0 (and thus has older hardware
  318. support), does not have enterprise connectivity for software
  319. distribution or status and topology forwarding to AIX, and does not
  320. have AntiVirus integrated or license metering/administration.
  321.  
  322. Distributed Console Access Facility
  323.  
  324. The Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) is positioned as an
  325. enterprise offering that allows users to take over remote OS/2 and
  326. Windows workstations over TCP/IP, SNA, NetBIOS, and IPX
  327. communications networks, and also offers a third-party authentication
  328. capability.  The TME 10 NetFinity Server Remote Console capability is
  329. based on DCAF, but does not support SNA networks or the third-party
  330. authentication capability.  It does offer two-party authentication
  331. through the TME 10 NetFinity Server security service.
  332.  
  333. Customers who require remote console over SNA networks or who could
  334. benefit from the administrative savings available in a third-party
  335. authentication system should continue to purchase DCAF.
  336.  
  337. Some customers may benefit from the coexistence of DCAF and TME 10
  338. NetFinity Server.
  339.  
  340. NetView Distribution Manager for OS/2
  341.  
  342. NetView Distribution Manager for OS/2 (NVDM/2) provides software
  343. distribution for customers with multiple sites.  NVDM/2 can
  344. communicate with other members of the NVDM family to provide a
  345. fan-out function that reduces WAN traffic.
  346.  
  347. The TME 10 NetFinity Server Software Distribution function does not
  348. provide manager to manager function, and so should be considered only
  349. for customers where WAN bandwidth is not a concern, or who have very
  350. few remote sites.
  351.  
  352. The TME 10 NetFinity Server Software Distribution function might also
  353. be considered as an alternative to NetView Distribution Manager for
  354. NetWare or AIX, since it supports IPX and TCP/IP communications
  355. protocols.  This solution will improve performance of NetWare servers
  356. by offloading the software distribution function to an OS/2 server.
  357. It may also provide a lower-cost solution than NetView Distribution
  358. Manager/6000.
  359.  
  360. SystemView License Use Management Run-time
  361.  
  362. The License Use Management Run-time component of TME 10 NetFinity
  363. Server is identical to the separately available SystemView License
  364. Use Management Run-time product.

  369. shipped in the Handypack along with the TME 10 NetFinity Server

  546. Connection to Host:  For communication with an AIX host, the TME 10
  547. NetFinity Server manager must have TCP/IP for OS/2 with CSD UN64092,
  548. or later.

  550. The AIX host must have Software Distribution 3.1 for AIX, or later.

  552. To use the topology upload function, the AIX system must have NetView
  553. for AIX 4.1, with PTF U440147.

  555. For communication with an MVS host, the TME 10 NetFinity Server
  556. manager must have the Communication Server or Communication Manager
  557. (CM/2) 1.11, or later.

  559. The MVS host must have NetView Distribution Manager for MVS
  560. Release 6.1, or later.

  562. Exporting Data to a Database:  To export data to a database, one of
  563. following must be available:

  565. o  DB2/2 Version 2.1 on the database server, and the DB2/2 client
  566.    Version 2.1 on TME 10 NetFinity Server manager systems that will
  567.    export to the database.

  569. o  Lotus Notes Version 3.2 or later, plus Lotus Notes client
  570.    Version 3.2 or later on TME 10 NetFinity Server manager systems

  573. Compatibility:  The TME 10 NetFinity Server is compatible with the
