  36. With the ImagePlus(R) family, paper documents, photos, or drawings
  37. can be scanned or captured as electronic images, organized into
  38. folders, linked to business applications, routed through the work
  39. process and presented to users on demand.
  40.  
  41. As part of the ImagePlus family, the IBM ImagePlus Workstation
  42. Programs provide high-performance functions that allow you to
  43. capture, view, manipulate and print large volumes of documents
  44. efficiently.

  46. IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program (IWPM) Version 2 Release 1 for
  47. OS/2(R) is the client component of the ImagePlus Workfolder
  48. Application Facility for OS/400(R) (WAF) and ImagePlus Folder
  49. Application Facility for MVS/ESA(TM) (FAF) solutions.  IWPM provides
  50. enhanced display, print, data format and document manipulation
  51. support.  Version 2 Release 1 also provides a similar end-user
  52. interface and content class support to the ImagePlus VisualInfo(TM)
  53. Version 2.1 viewer.

  55. This 32-bit OS/2 Program Manager application now includes:
  56.  
  57. o  Data Format -- adds TIFF, ASCII, bitmaps, PPDS and EBCDIC support.
  58.    Also because of the addition of word processing and spreadsheet
  59.    support, IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 converts the data to
  60.    MO:DCA(TM) format for displaying and printing.
  61.  
  62. o  Print enhancements -- provide the support of the IBM Laserprinter
  63.    4039 PCL, general PM printer driver support and IBM Print Services
  64.    Facility(TM) for OS/2 print server support.
  65.  
  66. o  Document manipulation -- has upgraded support for notes and
  67.    highlights, the addition of page cropping, OS/2 clip board and
  68.    magnifying lens support, and the ability to store rotated pages.

  70. o  A CID-enabled install -- allows for easy installation of IWPM
  71.    Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 from a single server.

  77. Intended Customers:  ImagePlus Workstation Program Version 2
  78. Release 1 for OS/2 should be marketed to all customers requiring an
  79. image solution on the AS/400(R) mid-range and MVS/ESA mainframe

  94. DESCRIPTION
  95.  
  96. IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 includes image processing services,
  97. including display, print, capture, and annotation of color, grey and
  98. bi-level images.  Both MODCA and TIFF data object formats are
  99. supported with an open interface to define other data object types.
  100. Bitmaps, text, and image text overlays are also supported.
  101.  
  102. Remote printing is supported through OS/2 redirection services
  103. provided by IBM LAN Server or IBM Print Service Facility for OS/2.
  104. To efficiently manage the size of image files and to improve LAN
  105. performance, image processing services provides workstation memory
  106. management (working set) services and software color and bi-level
  107. image compression/decompression support.  All image processing
  108. services are available to OS/2 applications through the ImagePlus
  109. VisualInfo Common Application Programming Interfaces (CAPIs), thus
  110. enabling customers and business partners to create customized
  111. end-user applications.
  112.  
  113. The IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program for OS/2 Application
  114. Programming Interfaces (APIs) provides the communication interface to
  115. the host or server application.  IWPM for OS/2, used with the
  116. ImagePlus WAF and FAF solutions, provide workflow and folder
  117. management solutions.  The document processing, file cabinet and work
  118. management functions allow users to index and store documents;
  119. retrieve, delete, and update documents; create and look at the
  120. content of folders; create and search file cabinets; and create cases
  121. and workbaskets.   Work management also provides functions to manage
  122. workbaskets and workflow.
  123.  
  124. A selection of scanners (SCSI-attached) and printers will be
  125. supported with an open interface defined for attachment of additional
  126. scanners and printers effective September 27, 1996.  A refresh of the
  127. IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 will be distributed to all
  128. customers at availability in September.
  129.  
  130. Key Customer Features:
  131.  
  132. o  The ability to import and export documents that enables the
  133.    conversion of image and text documents to and from other data
  134.    formats.
  135.  
  136. o  The ability to use the OS/2 multitasking that allows applications
  137.    to run concurrently.
  138.  
  139. o  The ability to perform page caching.  Page caching allows
  140.    decompressed pages to be temporarily stored in memory.  The cached
  141.    pages can then be quickly displayed.
  142.  
  143. o  The ability to create mask and notes and highlights on a document.
  144.    Authorized users can look at the data under the mask and can store
  145.    a document containing masks to the host.
  146.  
  147. o  The ability to customize the end-user selection to the task the
  148.    end user will perform using configuration program.

  150. o  The ability to provide enhanced capture processing through it's
  151.    application program interface with ImagePlus Capture Facility for
  152.    OS/2 and ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility for OS/2, available
  153.    September 27, 1996.

  155. Asset Protection
  156.  
  157. Several forms of asset protection are provided:
  158.  
  159. o  Data Formats -- A variety of international, industry, and vendor
  160.    standard image formats are supported natively by IWPM for OS/2.
  161.    Some of the key architectures include TIFF and MO:DCA, while a
  162.    variety of compression algorithms are supported including CCITT
  163.    Group 3, CCITT Group 4, ABIC and JPEG.  Support for additional
  164.    data streams can be added with complementary products.
  165.  
  166. o  Peripherals -- Published hardware interfaces are provided which
  167.    facilitate the attachment of a wide range of IBM and OEM
  168.    peripherals including scanners, optical drives, and printers using
  169.    dedicated drivers.  Additional attachment support is available
  170.    from other vendors such as Kodak, Kofax, and Fujitsu.
  171.  
  172. o  Client processors -- The IWPM for OS/2 software can run on any
  173.    machine that supports standard OS/2 Version 3.
  174.  
  175. o  Monitors -- Any Presentation Manager(R) display with VGA
  176.    resolution or above is supported.
  177.  
  178. o  Printers -- Any all points addressable (APA) color or bilevel
  179.    Presentation Manager (PM) printer is supported.
  180.  
  181. o  LAN Environment -- A variety of LAN environments are supported
  182.    including Token Ring and Ethernet.  The open architecture enables
  183.    integrated solutions, addition of new device support, and
  184.    preservation of existing investments.
  185.  
  186. Integration and Flexibility:  Desktop applications such as
  187. spreadsheet and word processing products can be integrated across the
  188. enterprise.  The data generated by these desktop, convenience
  189. products can now be made available throughout the enterprise via the
  190. host.  The security and integrity of the data is managed by the host
  191. application.
  192.  
  193. The general PM print driver provided with IWPM for OS/2 can also be
  194. used to provide a facsimile solution for outgoing Faxes.  Since most
  195. OS/2 personal Fax software products configure the Fax adapter as a PM
  196. printer, the IWPM for OS/2 user would select the Fax adapter when
  197. performing an image print operation.  The Fax software would then
  198. prompt for user for destination information, if required.
  199.  
  200. The advantages of integrating image technology within a current
  201. business environment have become generally accepted.  IWPM for
  202. OS/2 extends these advantages by supporting not only image formats,
  203. but also a full range of document types, including spreadsheet,
  204. audio, video and word processing text.
  205.  
  206. IWPM for OS/2 has three support levels for data objects: native, user
  207. exit, or associated.  Native support indicates that the client can
  208. capture, store, display, print, or manipulate the object.  User exits
  209. provide a  means of converting non-natively supported architectures
  210. into natively supported architectures.  Associated support provides a
  211. means for handling any object that is not supported through a user
  212. exit or natively.  In this case, the object is passed to the correct
  213. application for management.  Using one of these three forms, any
  214. object can be supported by IWPM for OS/2.
  215.  
  216. The native data stream support provides read or both read and create
  217. support for many formats.  The native support includes:

  259. and the data can be stored in multiple formats.

  261. IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 is the client component of
  262. Workfolder Application Facility (WAF) for OS/400 and the ImagePlus
  263. MVS/ESA Folder Application Facility (FAF) and Object Distribution
  264. Manager (ODM) solutions.
  265.  
  266. IWPM provides image services, including image capture, print, modify,
  267. import/export, and display.
  268.  
  269. EDUCATION SUPPORT
  270.  
  271. The appropriate curriculum will be updated, as necessary, to include
  272. the enhancements in this announcement.

  280. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

  282. Specified Operating Environment
  283.  
  284. Hardware Requirements:  The following is a list of the minimum
  285. hardware items required to run ImagePlus Workstation Program For some
  286. of the items, additional information is included.
  287.  
  288. o  33 Mhz 80486 DX processor (for improved performance, use a faster
  289.    80486 processor or a Pentium processor)
  290.  
  291. o  16 megabytes of random access memory (RAM) (for improved
  292.    performance, add more memory)
  293.  
  294. o  50 megabytes of free space on the hard disk drive specified in the
  295.    SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS
  296.  
  297. o  20 megabytes of free space on the target drive to install the IWPM
  298.    Version 2 for OS/2 software and to copy the configuration files
  299.  
  300. o  An XGA(R) IBM display, or any monitor that is in compliance with
  301.    the IBM Presentation Manager
  302.  
  303.    You can use any fully compliant Presentation Manager monitor and
  304.    adapter that uses one of the following gray or color palettes:
  305.  
  306.    -  XGA
  307.    -  XGA-2
  308.    -  Type 8514/A
  309.    -  Any uniform 4-bit or 8-bit gray palette
  310.    -  Any uniform 4-bit or 8-bit color palette
  311.    -  Any uniform 24-bit color palette

  313.    VGA monitors can be used with this product, but are not
  314.    recommended because of their poorer readability.
  315.  
  316. o  A 4-megabit and 16-megabit token-ring adapter
  317.  
  318.    Network connectivity is made by using Advanced Peer-to-Peer
  319.    Networking(R) APPN(R) and the Advanced Program-to-Program
  320.    Communication (APPC) services provided by Communications
  321.    Manager/2.

  323. Software Requirements:  For IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2, one of

  357. Compatibility:  Non-MO:DCA documents created on IWPM Version 2
  358. Release 1 for OS/2 will not be able to be printed or displayed with
  359. IWPM Version 1, including IWPM/DFW.

  363. Installability:  For migration aid, refer to the Installation and
  364. User's Guide.
  365.  
  366. Packaging:  IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 is shipped on 3
  367. 1/2-inch diskettes.  Users requiring scan function should continue to
  368. order IWPM/2 Version 1 (5621-047) until IWPM Version 2 for OS/2 scan
  369. function is available on September 27, 1996.

  371. Security, Auditability, and Control
  372.  
  373. The announced program uses the security and auditability features of
  374. the host software.
  375.  
  376. User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  377. implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  378. appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  379. facilities.

  410. the new version.  To upgrade from an additional license of Version 1
  411. (5874-BBB, 83F6663) to Version 2, specify order type 5804-AAR (part
  412. number 84H2556) and feature 0603.

  414. If Version 1 is a DSLO license and the customer wishes to upgrade to
  415. a Version  2 Release 1 basic license, Version 1 must be converted
  416. from a DSLO license to a basic license first.
