----------------------------------------
With the ImagePlus(R) family, paper documents, photos, or drawings
can be scanned or captured as electronic images, organized into
folders, linked to business applications, routed through the work
process and presented to users on demand.
As part of the ImagePlus family, the IBM ImagePlus Workstation
Programs provide high-performance functions that allow you to
capture, view, manipulate and print large volumes of documents
efficiently.
IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program (IWPM) Version 2 Release 1 for
OS/2(R) is the client component of the ImagePlus Workfolder
Application Facility for OS/400(R) (WAF) and ImagePlus Folder
Application Facility for MVS/ESA(TM) (FAF) solutions. IWPM provides
enhanced display, print, data format and document manipulation
support. Version 2 Release 1 also provides a similar end-user
interface and content class support to the ImagePlus VisualInfo(TM)
Version 2.1 viewer.
This 32-bit OS/2 Program Manager application now includes:
o Data Format -- adds TIFF, ASCII, bitmaps, PPDS and EBCDIC support.
Also because of the addition of word processing and spreadsheet
support, IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 converts the data to
MO:DCA(TM) format for displaying and printing.
o Print enhancements -- provide the support of the IBM Laserprinter
4039 PCL, general PM printer driver support and IBM Print Services
Facility(TM) for OS/2 print server support.
o Document manipulation -- has upgraded support for notes and
highlights, the addition of page cropping, OS/2 clip board and
magnifying lens support, and the ability to store rotated pages.
o A CID-enabled install -- allows for easy installation of IWPM
Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 from a single server.
o Sort support
o 24-bit color display support
Intended Customers: ImagePlus Workstation Program Version 2
Release 1 for OS/2 should be marketed to all customers requiring an
image solution on the AS/400(R) mid-range and MVS/ESA mainframe
systems.
Key Prerequisites: IWPM Verision 2 Release 1 operates with the OS/2
operating system.
Planned Availability Date: June 28, 1996
(R) Registered trademark of International Business Machines
Corporation in the United States or other countries or both.
(TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation in the
United States or other countries or both.
DESCRIPTION
IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 includes image processing services,
including display, print, capture, and annotation of color, grey and
bi-level images. Both MODCA and TIFF data object formats are
supported with an open interface to define other data object types.
Bitmaps, text, and image text overlays are also supported.
Remote printing is supported through OS/2 redirection services
provided by IBM LAN Server or IBM Print Service Facility for OS/2.
To efficiently manage the size of image files and to improve LAN
performance, image processing services provides workstation memory
management (working set) services and software color and bi-level
image compression/decompression support. All image processing
services are available to OS/2 applications through the ImagePlus
VisualInfo Common Application Programming Interfaces (CAPIs), thus
enabling customers and business partners to create customized
end-user applications.
The IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program for OS/2 Application
Programming Interfaces (APIs) provides the communication interface to
the host or server application. IWPM for OS/2, used with the
ImagePlus WAF and FAF solutions, provide workflow and folder
management solutions. The document processing, file cabinet and work
management functions allow users to index and store documents;
retrieve, delete, and update documents; create and look at the
content of folders; create and search file cabinets; and create cases
and workbaskets. Work management also provides functions to manage
workbaskets and workflow.
A selection of scanners (SCSI-attached) and printers will be
supported with an open interface defined for attachment of additional
scanners and printers effective September 27, 1996. A refresh of the
IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 will be distributed to all
customers at availability in September.
Key Customer Features:
o The ability to import and export documents that enables the
conversion of image and text documents to and from other data
formats.
o The ability to use the OS/2 multitasking that allows applications
to run concurrently.
o The ability to perform page caching. Page caching allows
decompressed pages to be temporarily stored in memory. The cached
pages can then be quickly displayed.
o The ability to create mask and notes and highlights on a document.
Authorized users can look at the data under the mask and can store
a document containing masks to the host.
o The ability to customize the end-user selection to the task the
end user will perform using configuration program.
o The ability to provide enhanced capture processing through it's
application program interface with ImagePlus Capture Facility for
OS/2 and ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility for OS/2, available
September 27, 1996.
Asset Protection
Several forms of asset protection are provided:
o Data Formats -- A variety of international, industry, and vendor
standard image formats are supported natively by IWPM for OS/2.
Some of the key architectures include TIFF and MO:DCA, while a
variety of compression algorithms are supported including CCITT
Group 3, CCITT Group 4, ABIC and JPEG. Support for additional
data streams can be added with complementary products.
o Peripherals -- Published hardware interfaces are provided which
facilitate the attachment of a wide range of IBM and OEM
peripherals including scanners, optical drives, and printers using
dedicated drivers. Additional attachment support is available
from other vendors such as Kodak, Kofax, and Fujitsu.
o Client processors -- The IWPM for OS/2 software can run on any
machine that supports standard OS/2 Version 3.
o Monitors -- Any Presentation Manager(R) display with VGA
resolution or above is supported.
o Printers -- Any all points addressable (APA) color or bilevel
Presentation Manager (PM) printer is supported.
o LAN Environment -- A variety of LAN environments are supported
including Token Ring and Ethernet. The open architecture enables
integrated solutions, addition of new device support, and
preservation of existing investments.
Integration and Flexibility: Desktop applications such as
spreadsheet and word processing products can be integrated across the
enterprise. The data generated by these desktop, convenience
products can now be made available throughout the enterprise via the
host. The security and integrity of the data is managed by the host
application.
The general PM print driver provided with IWPM for OS/2 can also be
used to provide a facsimile solution for outgoing Faxes. Since most
OS/2 personal Fax software products configure the Fax adapter as a PM
printer, the IWPM for OS/2 user would select the Fax adapter when
performing an image print operation. The Fax software would then
prompt for user for destination information, if required.
The advantages of integrating image technology within a current
business environment have become generally accepted. IWPM for
OS/2 extends these advantages by supporting not only image formats,
but also a full range of document types, including spreadsheet,
audio, video and word processing text.
IWPM for OS/2 has three support levels for data objects: native, user
exit, or associated. Native support indicates that the client can
capture, store, display, print, or manipulate the object. User exits
provide a means of converting non-natively supported architectures
into natively supported architectures. Associated support provides a
means for handling any object that is not supported through a user
exit or natively. In this case, the object is passed to the correct
application for management. Using one of these three forms, any
object can be supported by IWPM for OS/2.
The native data stream support provides read or both read and create
support for many formats. The native support includes:
READ AND CREATE READ
MO:DCA-P IS2 MO:DCA-P IS1
MO DCA-P Resources MO DCA
IOCA FS11 IOCA FS10
PTOCA PT1 IOCA (IRM)
ASCII TIFF 6 page

TIFF-FAX Fine TIFF (IRM)
TIFF Single Strip TIFF (IP/2)
OS/2 V2.x Bitmap OS/2 V1.2 Bitmap
OS/2 V1.3 Bitmap
PPDS Level 3
Support for conversions between most of these native data stream
formats is also provided.
IWPM for OS/2 can read and create uncompressed data in the data
stream formats listed above. Also, native support for read or both
reading and creating the following compression formats is provided:
READ AND CREATE READ
CCITT Group 4 (G4) Adaptive Bi-level Image

and the data can be stored in multiple formats.
IWPM Version 2 Release 1 for OS/2 is the client component of
Workfolder Application Facility (WAF) for OS/400 and the ImagePlus
MVS/ESA Folder Application Facility (FAF) and Object Distribution
Manager (ODM) solutions.
IWPM provides image services, including image capture, print, modify,
import/export, and display.
