  34. In a continuing effort to increase end-user productivity,
  35. ImagePlus(R) Capture Facility (ICPF) Version 1 Release 2 provides a
  36. more flexible install and upgrade process.  Also, ICPF Version 1
  37. Release 2 now supports DB2/2(TM) Version 2 Release 1.

  39. ICPF, a local area network (LAN)-based client/server extension to the
  40. ImagePlus for MVS/ESA(TM) and ImagePlus VisualInfo(TM) environments,
  41. provides high-volume document capture and indexing.  ICPF works with
  42. IBM ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility/2 (IPFO) to provide
  43. Intelligent Forms Processing (IFP), Optical and Intelligent Character
  44. Recognition (OCR/ICR) for automatic capture of indexing, and business
  45. data for ImagePlus for MVS/ESA and ImagePlus VisualInfo offerings.

  47. ICPF also supports IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 (IWPM/2)
  48. barcode recognition for automatic capture of indexing data.  These
  49. functions greatly increase user productivity by allowing you to
  50. select the most appropriate document capture technique for your
  51. business process.

  64. End-User Productivity
  65.  
  66. Improved Worker Productivity:  Since ICPF provides several document
  67. capture options, you can now choose the most efficient technique for
  68. your specific business needs.
  69.  
  70. The automatic capture of index information and business data using
  71. intelligent character recognition and bar code technologies (via
  72. IPFO) is supported for both VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA.  The
  73. capabilities allow easier indexing of documents and allow the
  74. documents to be available for processing sooner.  With IPFO
  75. Version 1.2, index and business data can be recognized from typed and
  76. handwritten information.  See Software Announcement 296-169, dated
  77. May 21, 1996, for more information on the newest functions being
  78. added to ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility/2 (IPFO) Version 1
  79. Release 2.

  81. Options for manual indexing for the ImagePlus MVS/ESA system include
  82. index before scan, simultaneous index and scan, and scan before
  83. index.
  84.  
  85. Disconnected Operations:  ICPF allows documents to be temporarily
  86. stored on the file server.  You have the flexibility of optimizing
  87. traffic on your network by controlling when the documents are sent to
  88. ImagePlus MVS(R) or ImagePlus VisualInfo.  In addition, ICPF offers
  89. the capability to capture and collect documents without a connection
  90. to VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA.  This means that documents can be
  91. scanned during the off shift, stored on the file server, and manually
  92. indexed during the primary shift.

  94. Investment Protection
  95.  
  96. Asset Protection:  ImagePlus MVS/ESA users who choose to
  97. coexist/migrate with VisualInfo, can use ICPF with their VisualInfo
  98. system.
  99.  
  100. When ICPF is used with ImagePlus MVS/ESA, image-enabled
  101. line-of-business applications can extend their function to include
  102. ICPF through the use of new ICPF indexing workstation application
  103. program interfaces (APIs).  The ImagePlus MVS/ESA customer-installed
  104. scanners and OS/2(R) workstations can be used to implement the new
  105. scanning and indexing options provided by ICPF.
  106.  
  107. ICPF Version 1.2 supports DB2/2 Version 2 Release 1.
  108.  
  109. System Management
  110.  
  111. Installability Improvements:  When installing ICPF capability on an
  112. indexing workstation, ICPF now allows the user to specify the actual
  113. parameters needed to catalog the ICPF database.  For the server and
  114. indexing workstation installations, the STARTUP.CMD is not updated by
  115. default, allowing the user to specify which updates to apply.
  116.  
  117. Auditability:  Auditability of your image operation is enhanced
  118. because ICPF stores event and history information on all scanning,
  119. allowing the user to trace an image back to its source document when
  120. required.
  121.

  127. TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  128.  
  129. ICPF is designed as a client/server application.  The client provides
  130. the indexing functions, and the server provides batch storage and the
  131. interface to VisualInfo.
  132.  
  133. Hardware Requirements
  134.  
  135. Single Byte Language Implementation:
  136.  
  137. ICPF Indexing Feature (use when configured with ImagePlus MVS/ESA)
  138. requires: The minimum processor is any which supports OS/2 2.1, or
  139. later, and IWPM/2 Version 1.2, or later, which has at least 10
  140. megabytes (10MB) of free storage on its hard disk after the
  141. installation of OS/2 and IWPM/2, and has 23MB of free space on the
  142. drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file.  The
  143. minimum recommended processor for capacity and performance
  144. considerations is an IBM PC Model 750.
  145.  
  146. Memory Requirements:  Minimum 12MB RAM is required to run OS/2,
  147. IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
  148.  
  149. Disk Requirements:  Minimum 80MB hard disk is required to run OS/2,
  150. IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
  151.  
  152. ICPF File Server:  In order to use the ICPF Indexing Feature, the
  153. ICPF File Server must be attached.  The minimum processor is an IBM
  154. PC Server Model 320 or above which supports OS/2 2.1 or later, and
  155. IWPM/2 Version 1.2 or later, and has at least 10MB of free storage on
  156. its hard disk after the installation of OS/2 and IWPM/2.  It must
  157. have a minimum of 23MB of free space on the drive specified in the
  158. SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file, and an allocation of 50,000
  159. bytes per image stored at the ICPF File Server.  The minimum
  160. recommended processor for capacity and performance considerations is
  161. an IBM PC Server 320.
  162.  
  163. Memory Requirements:  32MB RAM memory is required to run OS/2 and the
  164. server workstation programs.
  165.  
  166. Disk Requirements:  Minimum 160MB hard disk is required to run OS/2
  167. and the server workstation programs.  Depending on the required
  168. volumes, additional hard disks may be required.  A 320MB drive could
  169. hold somewhere in the range of 5000 to 6400 pages, assuming 50,000
  170. bytes per page.

  172. The ICPF File Server is also used for the ICPF interface to
  173. VisualInfo.  The minimum recommended processor for capacity and
  174. performance for ICPF communicating with a VisualInfo library and
  175. object server is an IBM PC Server 320 and above.
  176.  
  177. Memory Requirements:  Minimum 32MB RAM memory is required to run
  178. OS/2 2.1 Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1, DB2/2 1.0,
  179. LAN Server 3.0 Entry Level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2, and ICPF
  180. Version 1.2.

  182. Disk Requirements:  Minimum 540MB hard disk is required to run
  183. OS/2 2.1, Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1.2, DB2/2
  184. Version 1.0, LAN Server 3.0 Entry Level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2,
  185. and ICPF Version 1.2.  Depending on required volumes, additional disk
  186. capacity may be required.  Data recovery scenarios require a second
  187. hard disk on the server.

  189. Display Support for ICPF Indexing Feature and ICPF File Server:  ICPF
  190. supports all fully compliant Presentation Manager(R) (PM) displays
  191. and adapters operating on IBM PS/2(R) system units and using one of
  192. the following pallets:

  209. the LU6.2 APPC service facility of OS/2 Communication Manager.  Refer
  210. to the documentation for the installed Communications Manager product
  211. for details about supported adapters.

  246. 1.2 (or later) with batch scanning flows.  The batch scanning flow
  247. provides the interface for MGDS data stream.

  249. The scanning workstation requires IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program/2
  250. Version 1.2, or later.

  252. Host application prerequisites for ImagePlus MVS/ESA:

  265.    during document indexing.  In addition, a set of APIs are provided
  266.    to allow customization of the user interface to support a
  267.    customer's front-end application that returns a TEMPID from the
  268.    host.

  296. will be sent a program reorder form which may be returned directly to
  297. IBM Software Manufacturing Solutions (SMS) to activate an order for
  298. Release 2.  The mailing of the reorder forms will be completed by
  299. June 7, 1996.  Reorder forms returned to SMS will be processed within
  300. 10 working days of receipt.
