ImagePlus MVS/ESA
----------------------------------------
In a continuing effort to increase end-user productivity,
ImagePlus(R) Capture Facility (ICPF) Version 1 Release 2 provides a
more flexible install and upgrade process. Also, ICPF Version 1
Release 2 now supports DB2/2(TM) Version 2 Release 1.
ICPF, a local area network (LAN)-based client/server extension to the
ImagePlus for MVS/ESA(TM) and ImagePlus VisualInfo(TM) environments,
provides high-volume document capture and indexing. ICPF works with
IBM ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility/2 (IPFO) to provide
Intelligent Forms Processing (IFP), Optical and Intelligent Character
Recognition (OCR/ICR) for automatic capture of indexing, and business
data for ImagePlus for MVS/ESA and ImagePlus VisualInfo offerings.
ICPF also supports IBM ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 (IWPM/2)
barcode recognition for automatic capture of indexing data. These
functions greatly increase user productivity by allowing you to
select the most appropriate document capture technique for your
business process.
Planned Availability Date: June 28, 1996

DESCRIPTION
End-User Productivity
Improved Worker Productivity: Since ICPF provides several document
capture options, you can now choose the most efficient technique for
your specific business needs.
The automatic capture of index information and business data using
intelligent character recognition and bar code technologies (via
IPFO) is supported for both VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA. The
capabilities allow easier indexing of documents and allow the
documents to be available for processing sooner. With IPFO
Version 1.2, index and business data can be recognized from typed and
handwritten information. See Software Announcement 296-169, dated
May 21, 1996, for more information on the newest functions being
added to ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility/2 (IPFO) Version 1
Release 2.
Options for manual indexing for the ImagePlus MVS/ESA system include
index before scan, simultaneous index and scan, and scan before
index.
Disconnected Operations: ICPF allows documents to be temporarily
stored on the file server. You have the flexibility of optimizing
traffic on your network by controlling when the documents are sent to
ImagePlus MVS(R) or ImagePlus VisualInfo. In addition, ICPF offers
the capability to capture and collect documents without a connection
to VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA. This means that documents can be
scanned during the off shift, stored on the file server, and manually
indexed during the primary shift.
Investment Protection
Asset Protection: ImagePlus MVS/ESA users who choose to
coexist/migrate with VisualInfo, can use ICPF with their VisualInfo
system.
When ICPF is used with ImagePlus MVS/ESA, image-enabled
line-of-business applications can extend their function to include
ICPF through the use of new ICPF indexing workstation application
program interfaces (APIs). The ImagePlus MVS/ESA customer-installed
scanners and OS/2(R) workstations can be used to implement the new
scanning and indexing options provided by ICPF.
ICPF Version 1.2 supports DB2/2 Version 2 Release 1.
System Management
Installability Improvements: When installing ICPF capability on an
indexing workstation, ICPF now allows the user to specify the actual
parameters needed to catalog the ICPF database. For the server and
indexing workstation installations, the STARTUP.CMD is not updated by
default, allowing the user to specify which updates to apply.
Auditability: Auditability of your image operation is enhanced
because ICPF stores event and history information on all scanning,
allowing the user to trace an image back to its source document when
required.
EDUCATION SUPPORT
Call IBM Direct Education at 800-IBM-TEACH (426-8322) for education
catalogs, schedules and enrollments.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
ICPF is designed as a client/server application. The client provides
the indexing functions, and the server provides batch storage and the
interface to VisualInfo.
Hardware Requirements
Single Byte Language Implementation:
ICPF Indexing Feature (use when configured with ImagePlus MVS/ESA)
requires: The minimum processor is any which supports OS/2 2.1, or
later, and IWPM/2 Version 1.2, or later, which has at least 10
megabytes (10MB) of free storage on its hard disk after the
installation of OS/2 and IWPM/2, and has 23MB of free space on the
drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file. The
minimum recommended processor for capacity and performance
considerations is an IBM PC Model 750.
