  9. IBM Electronic Publishing Edition for OS/2 Version 2.0 allows you to
  10. dynamically convert documents for viewing by WWW browers.  With
  11. Internet delivery of the product, you can:

  16. o  Avoid constraints on products due to demand

  23. The past several years have seen dramatic growth in the use of the
  24. Internet as a medium for electronic publishing.  With IBM Electronic
  25. Publishing Edition for OS/2(R), you can create and serve entire
  26. libraries of documents to your own internal corporate network and to
  27. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) browsers connected to the World Wide
  28. Web (WWW).  And by utilizing BookManager(R) READ, these same
  29. documents can be viewed by readers on multiple platforms who are not
  30. connected to an Internet Protocol Network.

  32. The Internet delivery availability of Electronic Publishing Edition
  33. for OS/2 allows for faster and easier delivery of the product to
  34. customers.  It avoids constraints on shipments for demand and
  35. provides a fast method to get products to market.  Products are
  36. locked using SDCS technology and unlocked via a software key
  37. available from IBM.  More information on this process is available in
  38. the Planning Information section of this announcement.

  270. Planning Information
  271.  
  272. The following is a summary overview of the downloading and unlocking
  273. process:
  274.  
  275. Product marketing information will be presented on WWW servers
  276. maintained by various product and marketing groups in IBM.  This
  277. information will describe features, functions and ordering
  278. information.  The WWW page will have a hyperlink that a customer
  279. would press to have EPE for OS/2 V2 delivered via the Internet.  This
  280. link will take them to the Product Download WWW Server maintained by
  281. SMS Boulder.
  282.  
  283. Using the instructions on the Product Download WWW page, the user
  284. unpacks and executes the Electronic Showcase tool to view information
  285. on the product.  If the user has not previously run Electronic
  286. Showcase, or CD Showcase on his workstation, they are required to
  287. select the country that they are in.  Electronic Showcase then
  288. presents the product information in a language suitable for that
  289. country.

  307. The customer calls the phone number appropriate for his country from
  308. the list in the product information notebook described above.
  309.  
  310. For the U.S., Canada and EMEA, the customer can directly contact an
  311. order center.  The organizations handling ordering and key
  312. fulfillment in these geographies are:
  313.  
  314. o  U.S.:  IBM Direct
  315. o  Canada:  IBM Canada Direct
  316. o  EMEA:  IBM Direct Services (Copenhagen)
  317.  
  318. If the customer has already been assigned an IBM customer number,
  319. then the order is entered into the order system, a key is generated
  320. and immediately given to the customer over the phone.  For the
  321. customer who does not have an IBM customer number, the customer and
  322. credit card information is taken over the phone.  TDO screening must
  323. be done before a key is issued.  The TDO screening and key generation
  324. will occur within two hours from the customer's call.  The key is
  325. then given to the customer over the phone.
  326.  
  327. Customers in Latin America countries are instructed to contact their
  328. local IBM representative.  The IBM representative enters the order
  329. through their local IBM office system and sends a PROFS note to IBM
  330. Direct Services in Copenhagen to obtain a key.  The IBM
  331. representative then delivers the key to the customer.
  332.  
  333. AP customers are instructed to contact their local IBM
  334. representative.  The IBM representative enters the order through the
  335. local IBM office system and requests a key from their local key
  336. center.  For AP South keys are generated by ASPD Sydney.  AP Japan
  337. keys are generated by ASPD in Japan.
  338.  
  339. Prior to purchasing a key, the product license agreement is
  340. displayed.  The user must accept the license agreement.  They then
  341. enter their customer number and key, and click on the Save button to
  342. save the key and unlock the product.  Once the key has been saved the
  343. user must press the copy button in Electronic Showcase to copy and
  344. decrypt the product files onto the users hard drive.  The product
  345. files consist of a packed file containing the product and a README
  346. file containing instructions on how to install the product.

  366. implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  367. appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  368. facilities.
