ready-to-use NETDA/2 input
o Support of MVS NETDA concept of non-intermediate routing
hosts
o User interface option to write routes of windows to a file
o Option to delete nodes and links on the network input view
| |
*-------------------------------------------------------------------*
IBM Network Design and Analysis/2 (NETDA/2) Version 1
Release 3 is an OS/2 (R)-based network topology and routing design
tool providing you with design, analysis, and optimization support
for SNA subarea, SNA APPN (R), and 3745 NCP Version 6 and NCP
Version 7 frame relay networks. This new release includes
enhancements that simplify NETDA/2 installation and use, assist in
migrating to 3745 frame relay networks and improve flexibility and
control in network route generation.
Frame relay support is provided in an organized frame relay
notebook view including current permanent virtual circuit (PVC)
dialogs and a new dialog for subarea (SA) integration. Support for
PVC generation and integration into SA routes is enhanced and SA
routes over frame relay PVCs now can be generated and implemented
using the route control function. Users of NETDA Version 2 Release 2
for MVS can now migrate to the extended capabilities of NETDA/2
Version 1 Release 3, allowing users to input and define existing
network configurations independently of design phases and traffic
requirements.
This release also supports the MVS NETDA concept of
non-intermediate routing host. The conversion from NETDA MVS is
enhanced to produce ready-to-use NETDA/2 input and any path statement
file of legal VTAM (R) format can be read into NETDA/2. Two new
external files generated by the recently announced ACF/SSP Version 4
Release 3 will be read by NETDA/2 to facilitate input of existing
links and their characteristics to the network input object. NETDA/2
Version 1 Release 3 removes the restriction that window sizes must
remain constant for different virtual routes (VRs) with the same
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 2
explicit route (ER) from the network traffic analysis (NTA)
interface. New interface options have been added for writing routes
of windows to a file, and deleting nodes and links on the network
input view. An additional design parameter for maximum hops of SA
routes has also been added. A faster ER numbering algorithm gives
the user the option to use two algorithms.
Installation is made easier by removing the necessity for
users to update their config.sys file as well as the need for prior
installation of GraphicsView/2. As a product that can help make
decisions in many facets of networks development, NETDA/2 Version 1
Release 3 will continue to be a valuable tool for network designers
and support personnel.
PRICE: Prices are unaffected by this announcement.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
This enhanced MVS NETDA converter produces ready-to-use input
for NETDA/2 eliminating much manual intervention. NETDA/2 Version 1
Release 3 provides a new ER numbering that will reduce the run time
required for the ER numbering phase. Two new external files produced
by ACF/SSP Version 4 Release 3 now facilitates input of the networks'
existing links and their characteristics to the network input object.
This assists NETDA/2 in building topology descriptions and
eliminating the need for manual network data entry.
With the enhancement to the installation process, NETDA/2
Version 1 Release 3 users will find that not having to update their
config.sys file and having to integrate parts of GraphicsView/2 into
NETDA/2 makes the installation of NETDA/2 a simpler and more
efficient process. By removing the restriction that window sizes
must remain constant for different VRs with the same ER from the NTA
interface will make the process more efficient, thus making NETDA/2
Version 1 Release 3 simpler to use.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
NETDA/2 Version 1 Release 3 is an OS/2-based network topology
design tool developed to provide you with design, analysis, and
optimization support for SNA subarea, SNA APPN, and 3745 NCP
Version 6 and NCP Version 7 frame relay networks. This release now
takes advantage of two files generated by ACF/SSP Version 4 Release 3
that will enhance the network manager's ability to design, analyze
and optimize the performance and availability of the network. These
files will be used in building network topology descriptions and
eliminating the need for manual network data entry. NETDA/2 provides
the network design and support departments with route control
functions similar to those found in NETDA Version 2 Release 2. With
support of route windowing and ordering, the ability to exclude
certain nodes and TGs from routes through the use of exclusion lists
and the ability to select restricted subnetworks, NETDA Version 2
Release 2 users can now migrate to NETDA/2 Version 1 Release 3 and
have similar, yet extended capabilities. The conversion from MVS
NETDA is enhanced to produce ready-to-use NETDA/2 input. Also, the
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 3
MVS NETDA concept of non-intermediate routing host is supported.
As you begin to use the network topology design capabilities
of NETDA/2 Version 1 Release 3 to assist in fine-tuning your
networks' performance, and to migrate to APPN or frame relay
networks, the interface to NPM and the enhanced two-way interface to
NTA are of significant value. This product's synergy is in response
to your requirements and will result in a network that is
well-balanced in performance, availability and cost. NETDA/2
Version 1 Release 3 provides a functionally equivalent product with
NETDA Version 2 Release 2 for MVS. In addition, NETDA/2 Version 1
Release 3 provides the ability to perform true network topology
design.
