TITLE PREVIEW: IBM DB2 WORLD WIDE WEB CONNECTION, INTERNET GATEWAY TO DB2
DATA
ABSTRACT *-------------------------------------------------------------------*
| IN BRIEF . . . |
Internet World Wide Web access from any Web browser to
your company's data!
DB2 World Wide Web Connection, a Common Gateway
Interface (CGI) gateway to DB2 data, gives you:
o Internet application development with standard hypertext
markup language (HTML) and SQL query tools
o Access to data on the DB2 family of relational databases
from any client using an HTML-conforming Web browser
o A Web interface to corporate data for marketing and secure
data delivery
o Two-tier and three-tier client/server environments for
businesses using both DB2 and the World Wide Web
o Authenticated DB2 access and, when installed with an IBM
Internet Connection Secure Server, encrypted security
o IBM support and services

*-------------------------------------------------------------------*
Thousands of businesses, both large and small, have
established a home page on the Internet World Wide Web, and are now
demanding a Web interface to their company data. DB2 (R) World Wide
Web Connection, a member of the IBM Internet Connection Family of
Products, is an Internet application development tool that enables
you to access your company data and makes your company data available
to customers on the World Wide Web.
No proprietary programming language is required -- with your
current hypertext markup language (HTML) editor and SQL query tool,
you can build applications that make it possible for any Web browser
to access your DB2 data with standard SQL statements.
Building Internet applications with DB2 World Wide Web
Connection means that your World Wide Web clients can access your DB2
data without your having to make any changes to the data structure.
Using the DB2 World Wide Web Connection gateway eliminates the need
to customize support for multiple, simultaneous clients. Any of the
currently popular Web browsers supporting HTML on OS/2 (R) UNIX (1),
Macintosh** System7**, and Windows+ platforms can access DB2 data
through applications built with DB2 World Wide Web Connection.
GIVE YOUR SALES FORCE AND CUSTOMERS AN INTERNET STOREFRONT.
With DB2 on your Web server and DB2 World Wide Web Connection as your
gateway, any client with a Web browser can request product
information from an online catalog.
BUILD A CUSTOMER REFERENCE DATABASE. Use DB2 World Wide Web
Connection to build an application that captures key information and
then stores it in a DB2 database.

CONDUCT BUSINESS IN A SECURE ENVIRONMENT. Rely on the
combined security features of DB2 World Wide Web Connection
integrated with the Internet Connection Secure Server to deliver
encrypted data (refer to Software Announcement 295-278, dated
June 19, 1995).
On June 20, 1995, DB2 World Wide Web Connection beta code for
access to DB2 for OS/2 and AIX (R) will be available directly on the
Internet World Wide Web. Look for a link from the IBM Software Home
Page at http://www.software.ibm.com. Limited support will be
available.
Previews provide insight into IBM plans and direction. The
DB2 World Wide Web Connection beta code will be available from the
IBM Software Home Page on Internet World Wide Web beginning
June 20, 1995. General availability and prices will be provided when
the product is announced.

o Internet World Wide Web access to data on DB2 for OS/2, AIX, and
MVS/ESA
o Authenticated and secure access to corporate data, when used with
IBM Internet Connection Secure Servers
o Query and update results reported to the Internet user
o Non-proprietary, declarative application language (HTML and SQL)
o Support for client access on multiple platforms from any
HTML-compliant Web browser
o Integration with IBM Internet Connection Servers and Secure
Servers
o Participation in the IBM Internet Connection Family of Products
o IBM support and services
DB2 World Wide Web Connection enables the development of Web
applications without requiring a proprietary language, data
encapsulation, or database reformatting. DB2 World Wide Web
Connection gives you a flexible yet powerful development environment
to extend the reach of your current SQL applications to Internet
users. DB2 World Wide Web Connection makes it easy for you to build
HTML forms with fill-in fields that allow users to submit requests to
a DB2 database. On the Web, the end user sees only the form
requesting input and the report resulting from the query.
DB2 World Wide Web Connection allows the application developer
to store the HTML forms and SQL queries in macro files on the Web
server. The DB2 World Wide Web Connection run-time engine then
processes these macro files when a Web user with a standard Web
browser requests access to data. A small macro language included
with DB2 World Wide Web Connection provides variable substitution

across HTML forms and SQL queries, enabling the application developer
to use the full capabilities of HTML and of SQL. DB2 World Wide Web
Connection uses native HTML and SQL languages, not a new hybrid
language, thus allowing the application developer to use existing
visual HTML editors and visual query tools to generate the SQL
queries.
In a two-tier client/server environment, DB2 World Wide Web
Connection lets you build an application that can access DB2 for
OS/2, AIX, or MVS/ESA data on your Web server, including IBM's
Internet Connection Servers and Secure Servers. In a three-tier
environment, your new application can access DB2 data on the Web
server and work with existing applications to access the DB2 family
and other relational data on servers connected to the Web server with
Distributed Database Connection Services (DDCS) or with DataJoiner.
When you are ready to conduct business on the Internet, you
will want the flexibility of applications built with DB2 World Wide
Web Connection combined with the secure environment offered by the
IBM Internet Connection Secure Server for OS/2 Warp and AIX. Each
supports the emerging S-HTTP and SSL standards, ensuring your
requests and query results are encrypted for safe arrival at their
destinations.
