TITLE IBM TIME AND PLACE CONNECTIVITY/2 AND IBM ADDRESS BOOK
SYNCHRONIZATION/2 VERSION 3.0 NOW AVAILABLE IN A SINGLE PACKAGE
ABSTRACT *-------------------------------------------------------------------*
| IN BRIEF . . . |
In support of IBM WorkGroup connectivity, TaPC/2 and
ABS/2 are packaged together as a single package at a reduced
price.
Additional changes include:
o Terms and conditions changes allowing products to be
available through additional distribution channels
o TaPC/2 support for scheduling meetings via IBM WorkGroup
mail and Enterprise Meeting Notice (EMN) support to
OfficeVision/400
o ABS/2 support for OS/400 system directory, IBM WorkGroup
directory, and user-defined OS/2 address books
| |
*-------------------------------------------------------------------*
New packaging, pricing, channels, and program enhancements are
offered for Time and Place (TM) Connectivity/2 (TaPC/2) and IBM
Address Book Synchronization/2 (ABS/2). The TaPC/2 program lets you
schedule meetings via IBM WorkGroup mail and includes Enterprise
Meeting Notice (EMN) support to OfficeVision/400 (TM). The ABS/2
program supports additional address book types.
TaPC/2 and ABS/2 are now packaged together in a single
shrink-wrapped program package that is available under the terms of
the IBM Program License Agreement. TaPC/2 and ABS/2 were previously
offered under the terms of the IBM Customer Agreement (ICA). And,
you can now obtain the TaPC/2 and ABS/2 program package through your
preferred distribution channel.
TaPC/2 is a LAN-based, bidirectional calendar connectivity
program that offers connectivity to IBM WorkGroup. This OS/2 (R)
32-bit program allows users of Time and Place/2, OfficeVision/VM
(TM), OfficeVision/MVS (TM), OfficeVision/400, PROFS, and IBM
WorkGroup scheduling and calendaring to perform interactive,
bidirectional view, free-time search, and calendar update operations
in host and LAN environments.
ABS/2 provides any-to-any synchronization. Information can be
synchronized between several LAN address book types, several host
address book types, or LAN and host address book types. And,
information can be synchronized unidirectionally or bidirectionally.
Unidirectional synchronization is the transfer of information in only
one direction from one address book to another -- the first as the
source, the second as the target. Bidirectional synchronization is
the transfer of information between two address books in both
directions.
The supported LAN address book products are:
o cc:Mail**
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 2
o Lotus** Notes**
o IBM WorkGroup directory (new)
o User-defined (custom) OS/2 address books (new)
The supported host address book types are:
o CallUp (TM) for the VM host
o User-defined (custom) VM address books
o OfficeVision/MVS Enterprise Address Book
o OfficeVision/MVS Shared Address Book
o User-defined (custom) MVS address books
o OS/400 (R) system directory (new)

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
NEW PACKAGING AND LICENSING
TaPC/2 and ABS/2 are now packaged together in a single shrink-wrapped
program package under the terms of the IBM Program License Agreement.
These programs were offered under the terms of the IBM Customer
Agreement (ICA).
TIME AND PLACE CONNECTIVITY/2
By providing interconnectivity and interoperability between hosts and
LAN, TaPC/2 enables real-time group scheduling of people across
enterprises. Host and LAN users are able to see and use calendar
data belonging to users in both environments, in the interface they
are accustomed to. Coordination of people is simple and automatic,
with users able to route meeting notices across different computing
platforms, bidirectionally, and with no need to understand where
other users reside. As a result, you can optimize host and LAN
platform investment and utilization over time, enabling better
decision-making on rightsizing and group scheduling solutions.
Together with IBM WorkGroup, TaPC/2 helps you become more
productive by eliminating unproductive tasks associated with
reserving time with other employees. By giving users immediate
access to other users' calendar data, without retraining or the need
to know platform information, TaPC/2 and IBM WorkGroup can keep users
productive in the midst of technology changes or personnel movements.
TaPC/2 provides for an orderly transition and co-existence,
over time, for moving users to a LAN environment. As new LAN-based
users are added, IBM WorkGroup users are able to transparently
interact with existing OfficeVision/VM, PROFS, OfficeVision/MVS, or
OfficeVision/400 users to view, free-time search, and update
calendars.
ADDRESS BOOK SYNCHRONIZATION/2
Address Book Synchronization/2 (ABS/2) automatically updates
information between supported LAN and host address books. This
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 3
process is referred to as synchronization.
The supported LAN address book products are:
o cc:Mail
o Lotus Notes
o IBM WorkGroup
o User-defined (custom) OS/2 address books
The types of host address books supported include:
o CallUp for the VM host
o User-defined address books on the VM host (referred to as custom
address books)
o OfficeVision/MVS Enterprise Address Book
o OfficeVision/MVS Shared Address Book
o User-defined address books on the MVS host (referred to as custom
address books)
o OS/400 system directory
ABS/2 provides any-to-any synchronization. This means that
information can be synchronized between several LAN address book
types, between several host address book types, or between LAN and
host address book types. Additionally, information can be
synchronized unidirectionally or bidirectionally.
Unidirectional synchronization means that information is
transferred from one address book to another in only one direction,
where the first address book acts as the source and the second one
acts as the target.
Bidirectional synchronization means that information is
transferred between two address books in two directions. Information
from the first address book is transferred to the second, and
information from the second address book is transferred to the first.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
TaPC/2 and ABS/2 let you do cross-calendar activities and
synchronize directories between existing OfficeVision (R) functions
and the IBM WorkGroup suite. Recognizing that many customers have
already invested in a mail gateway, this packaging adds the
functionality required to support the extended capabilities of the
directory and group scheduling functions of IBM WorkGroup.
Customers who have not invested in a mail gateway should
evaluate the functionality of IMLG/2 that works in concert with
TaPC/2 and ABS/2.

o IBM WorkGroup Considerations
- If used with the scheduling and calendaring function of IBM
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 6
WorkGroup, the machine that TaPC/2 resides on must contain an
IBM WorkGroup scheduling and calendaring data server. The
machine may also have a master server as well, but it is not
required.
- For meeting notice support from the scheduling and
calendaring of IBM WorkGroup to OfficeVision/VM and
OfficeVision/400, the VIM-compliant application, IBM
