  39.           and application software packages for distribution and installation   
  40.           on OS/2 (R), DOS, and Windows+ workstations.  It uses NetView (R)     
  41.           Distribution Manager/2 (NetView DM/2) and common, easy-to use tools   
  42.           to help administrators create the change and response files they need 
  43.           to remotely install software on LAN-connected workstations.           
  44.                  COMMON TOOLS                                                   
  45.                  With NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for OS/2       
  46.           (NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2), system administrators are shielded    
  47.           from the complexities of preparing software packages for the remote   
  48.           installation process.  Administrators can use common tools, such as   
  49.           the Presentation Manager (R) interface, to prepare software packages  
  50.           for remote installation.  This helps to enhance administrators'       
  51.           productivity by eliminating delays associated with learning new       
  52.           tools.  In addition, administrators do not need to know specific      
  53.           NetView DM/2 commands and many tasks are simplified or automated (for 
  54.           example, change and response file generation, partitioning and        
  55.           formatting of client hard drives, creation of client boot diskettes).

  57.                  Administrators can take advantage of the redirected, response  
  58.           file install capability in IBM's configuration, installation, and

  65.           distribution (CID) technology to prepare software packages.  NetView  
  66.           DM EasyPrep for OS/2 lets administrators define configuration data    
  67.           for CID-enabled products via a PM dialog interface or REXX user       
  68.           exits.  The configuration data is saved in a relational database.     
  69.           This will save administrators considerable time and effort because    
  70.           they will be able to reuse the data for future installations.         
  71.                  Administrators are not limited to installing only CID-enabled  
  72.           products.  Through the use of replication methodology, administrators 
  73.           can distribute and install products that are not CID-enabled.         
  74.                  OPEN ARCHITECTURE                                              
  75.                  When a new CID-enabled or non CID-enabled product is released, 
  76.           you do not need to wait for a new version of NetView DM Easy Prep for 
  77.           OS/2 to install that product.  The new NetView DM EasyPrep            
  78.           architecture supports new products as soon as they come out.  In      
  79.           addition, you can create new or customize existing "model response    
  80.           files" to configure new products (for CID-enabled products).  You can 
  81.           also code user exits to extend the standard keyword validation rules  
  82.           for your own needs.

  90. OVERVIEW  DESCRIPTION                                                           
  91.                  IBM NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for OS/2        
  92.           (NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2) is a licensed program that simplifies  
  93.           the preparation of operating system and application software packages 
  94.           to be distributed and installed on OS/2, DOS, and Windows             
  95.           workstations using the NetView DM/2 product.                          
  96.                  NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 must be installed on the          
  97.           workstation acting as "preparation site" for the distribution and     
  98.           installation.  For example you can install NetView DM EasyPrep for    
  99.           OS/2 in any of the following environments:                            
  100.           o   In a server for the installation in a stand-alone NetBIOS LAN     
  101.           o   In a remote administrator workstation for the installation on     
  102.               APPC connected LANs                                               
  103.           o   On a preparation site of a IBM NetView DM host which manages the  
  104.               distribution in an enterprise network                             
  105.                  The NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 interface automatically       
  106.           builds response files, modification files and the change files used   
  107.           to perform distribution and automatic installation of OS/2, DOS and   
  108.           Windows products.  It takes advantage of the redirected, response     
  109.           file install capability of products which conform to IBM's            
  110.           Configuration, Installation and Distribution (CID) strategy.          
  111.           CONFIGURATION DATA MANAGEMENT FOR RESPONSE FILE GENERATION            
  112.           (CID-ENABLED PRODUCTS)                                                
  113.           The response file generation is based on the flexible concept of a    
  114.           'model response file' which is a template describing how to collect   
  115.           configuration data to generate response files for any CID-enabled     
  116.           product.  When a CID-enabled product is released, it is only a matter

  123.           of customizing the NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 to add a new "model   
  124.           response file" for the new product and use it to prepare as many      
  125.           response files as your network configuration requires.                
  126.                  Configuration data for CID-enabled products can be defined via 
  127.           a PM dialog interface or REXX user-exits depending on the             
  128.           instructions contained in the "model response files".  User exits     
  129.           must be coded when the user wants to gather information from other    
  130.           configuration repositories.                                           
  131.                  In addition, the configuration data is saved in a relational   
  132.           database (managed by NetView DM EasyPrep) to be reused for further    
  133.           installations.                                                        
  134.           AUTOMATIC GENERATION OF MODIFICATION FILES (NON CID-ENABLED PRODUCTS) 
  135.           NetView DM EasyPrep automatically generates the modification (.MOD)   
  136.           files used by NetView DM/2 to modify target workstation system files  
  137.           when installing Non CID-enabled software.  The .MOD files contain     
  138.           information to modify the CONFIG.SYS, STARTUP.CMD and desktop for     
  139.           OS/2 applications, and they contain information to modify the         
  140.           CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, and Windows .INI files for DOS and Windows  
  141.           applications.                                                         
  142.                  The Modification file is largely used when you install a non   
  143.           CID-enabled application through the NetView DM/2 installation by      
  144.           replication.                                                          
  145.           TIME SAVINGS                                                          
  146.           NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 comes with a set of common products      
  147.           ready to be configured and installed.  In this way, it insulates      
  148.           users from having to know the intricacies of the remote installation  
  149.           process.  NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 also helps save valuable time  
  150.           in two different ways.  It reduces the need for lengthy skills        
  151.           accumulation and provides for simple and swift configuration of       
  152.           software installs.                                                    
  153.                  When NetView DM/2 Remote Administrator workstations are used   
  154.           in the network, you can define each of the Change Control (CC)        
  155.           Clients in your domain at the Remote Administrator workstation and    
  156.           NetView DM EasyPrep will propagate the definition to the related      
  157.           remote servers in the domain.                                         
  158.           LINK TO NETVIEW DM FOR ENTERPRISE SOLUTION                            
  159.           For those users who are going to migrate to NetView DM 1.6 with the   
  160.           Software Profile Management Facility (SPMF) feature, NetView DM       
  161.           EasyPrep for OS/2 collects software and node definition directly from 
  162.           the SPMF DB2 (R) relational database.                                 
  163.                  The administrative work is performed on the NetView DM/MVS     
  164.           host to define network and assign software and on the NetView DM/2    
  165.           workstation to configure and package that software.                   
  166.           PARTITIONING/FORMATTING                                               
  167.           NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 provides features to automatically       
  168.           partition and format workstation hard drives as desired.  Without     
  169.           Easy Prep, this task would have to be done manually prior to          
  170.           installing software with NetView DM/2.  Easy Prep can create          
  171.           virtually the same drive configurations as those that can be created  
  172.           using the OS/2 FDISK or FDISKPM commands, including installation of   
  173.           Boot Manager.  Drives can be formatted in either the FAT or HPFS file 
  174.           systems.

  181.           BOOT DISKETTE CREATION                                                
  182.           The NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 user interface provides a convenient 
  183.           means for generating both OS/2 and DOS boot diskettes for             
  184.           installation on pristine workstations.  Boot diskettes are            
  185.           automatically configured for their environment (for example,          
  186.           operating system, LAN Adapter type) when generated.                   
  187.           PRODUCT POSITIONING                                                   
  188.                  NetView DM Easy Prep for OS/2 is a product that helps a        
  189.           NetView DM/2 administrator prepare software packages for distribution 
  190.           and installation on workstations connected to a LAN.  It helps create 
  191.           the change files and response files needed by NetView DM/2 to         
  192.           remotely install a product.                                           
  193.                  The features available in NetView DM EasyPrep are unique in    
  194.           the market today, with the exception of the IBM As-Is Software        
  195.           Products and Offerings (AISPO) product known as LAD/2.  The Easy      
  196.           Preparer licensed program has more advanced features than the LAD/2   
  197.           AISPO product, and will replace LAD/2 for customers that are using    
  198.           LAD/2 as a front-end for NetView DM/2.                                
  199.                  For a limited time, customers using LAD/2 have the option to   
  200.           upgrade to NetView DM EasyPrep.  This offer is valid through          
  201.           December 31, 1995.  There are also some other service offerings that  
  202.           help prepare packages for distribution over the LAN.  Many of these   
  203.           service offerings can be replaced by IBM NetView DM Easy Preparer for 
  204.           OS/2 licensed program.                                                
  205.                  All customers (banks, insurance companies, large enterprise,   
  206.           etc.)  using LANs and using NetView DM/2 for software distribution    
  207.           can take advantage of EasyPrep to prepare software package for        
  208.           distribution.  It makes this task much easier for systems             
  209.           administrators.

  302.           SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:  According to the different customer           
  303.           scenarios, IBM NetView DM Easy Preparer for OS/2 requires:            
  304.           o   NetView DM/2 Entry Package (server component), when the customer  
  305.               is using NetView DM for MVS, and uses the NetView DM/2 Entry to   
  306.               prepare the Change files and response files for the software      
  307.               packages that are being distributed and installed over the        
  308.               network by NetView DM/MVS.                                        
  309.           o   NetView DM/2 Extended Package (server component), when the        
  310.               customer uses NetView DM/2 Extended to prepare the Change files   
  311.               and response files for the software packages that are being       
  312.               distributed and installed over the LANs in a network.             
  313.           o   NetView DM/2 Remote Administrator (server component) and the      
  314.               NetView DM/2 Extended Package (server component) when the         
  315.               customer uses NetView DM/2 Remote Administrator to prepare change 
  316.               files and response files for the software packages that are       
  317.               installed in a remote LAN location.                               
  318.                  Therefore, IBM NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for  
  319.           OS/2 requires the same software of the related NetView DM/2           
  320.           component, with the following additional requirements:                
  321.           o   OS/2 Version 2.1 or later                                         
  322.           o   DB2/2 (TM) Version 1.0 or later                                   
  323.           o   DDCS/2 Version 1.0 or later (when NetView DM EasyPrep works as    
  324.               preparation site of NetView DM/MVS 1.6 with SPMF feature)         
  325.           COMPATIBILITY:  IBM NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for    
  326.           OS/2 can be used only by those customers that are already using IBM   
  327.           NetView DM/2 (5621-439) Version 2.1 (with CSD XR20460).               
  328.                  If any of the NetView DM/2 program packages (Entry, Extended,  
  329.           or Remote Administrator) are used in conjunction with NetView DM/MVS  
  330.           acting as Focal Point, then the software level of NetView DM/MVS must 
  331.           be Version 1 Release 6 (5685-016), with SPMF feature.                 
  332.           PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  When customers use NetView DM EasyPrep   
  333.           on a system with 16MB of RAM memory, and with the NetView DM/2 Change 
  334.           Distribution Manager Dialogs (CDM Dialogs) active, they may           
  335.           experience performance problems.  Therefore it is recommended, for    
  336.           those customers who are using NetView DM EasyPrep on a system with    
  337.           16MB RAM memory, to close the CDM Dialogs.                            
  338.           PLANNING INFORMATION                                                  
  339.           CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  The customer is responsible for acquiring 
  340.           all prerequisite hardware and software associated with IBM NetView    
  341.           Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for OS/2.                          
  342.                  The NetView DM/2 administrator should install the samples      
  343.           "model response file" and "product definitions" provided with the     
  344.           NetView DM EasyPrep product to become familiar with NetView DM        
  345.           EasyPrep function.  Using the NetView DM EasyPrep samples the NetView 
  346.           DM/2 administrator can create a response file and can start testing   
  347.           the product.                                                          
  348.           INSTALLABILITY:  NetView DM EasyPrep for OS/2 is a CID-enabled        
  349.

  357.                  Customers who have IBM NetView Distribution Manager/2 can use  
  358.           it to install NetView DM EasyPrep either on local server or on a      
  359.           server in a remote LAN location.                                      
  360.           PACKAGING:  IBM NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for OS/2   
  361.           is distributed in one package with the following material:

  367.                  IBM NetView Distribution Manager Easy Preparer for OS/2 uses   
  368.           the security and auditability features of the operating system.       
  369.           Physical security of the program diskettes, password security, and    
  370.           appropriate security backup provisions are responsibility of the      
  371.           user.                                                                 
  372.                  User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and  
  373.           implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and   
  374.           appropriate controls in application systems and communication
