TITLE IBM ADDRESS BOOK SYNCHRONIZATION FOR OS/2 VERSION 2 RELEASE 2
SUPPORTS FOUR NEW ADDRESS BOOK TYPES
ABSTRACT Support for four new address book types is added to IBM
Address Book Synchronization for OS/2 (R) (ABS/2), doubling the
application's address book support.
The supported LAN address book products are:
o cc:Mail**
o Lotus Notes**
o IBM WorkGroup Directory (new with the availability of IBM
WorkGroup Directory)
The supported host address book types are:
o CallUp (TM) for the VM host
o User-defined (custom) address books on the VM host
o OV/MVS Enterprise Address Book (new)
o OV/MVS Shared Address Book (new)
o User-defined (custom) MVS address books (new)
ABS/2 provides an "any-to-any" bidirectional or unidirectional
(in either direction) synchronization of information between any of
the supported host and LAN address book types. You can synchronize
host directories with LAN address books with one installation and
configuration of ABS/2.
Any-to-any synchronization means that information can be
synchronized between several LAN address book types, between several
host address book types, or between LAN and host address book types.
With unidirectional synchronization, information is
transferred from one address book to another in only one direction;
the first address book acts as the source and the second one acts as
the target. With bidirectional synchronization, information is
transferred between two address books in two directions; information
from the first address book is transferred to the second, and
information from the second address book is transferred to the first.
ABS/2 is an OS/2 32 (TM)-bit program that includes a base
(administration and routing functions) and the various address book
agents (which interface to the supported host and LAN address books).
Host agents' functions are split, with one part that runs on the
OS/2 workstation and another that runs on the host.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
IBM Address Book Synchronization for OS/2 Version 2
automatically updates information between supported LAN and host
address books. This process is referred to as synchronization.
The ABS/2 synchronization process consists of extract
processing and apply processing. During extract processing,
information is extracted from the source address books and applied to
the appropriate target address books during apply processing.
Part of the synchronization process is performed on the host
when host address books are synchronized. Information is extracted
from the host address books on a host user ID used exclusively by
ABS/2 (referred to as a dedicated host user ID). The information is
downloaded to the workstation to be applied to the appropriate
address books. If information needs to be applied to a host address
book, the information is sent to the dedicated host user ID and
applied to the appropriate address books.
Options for controlling how and when information is extracted
and applied are made during configuration after installation. These
include:
o Setting the days and times for synchronization to occur
automatically (for example, synchronization on Wednesdays and
Saturdays at midnight).
o Extracting information from address books based on your
ownership. For example, the address book owns all information
for users in Department ABC. This means only information on
users in Department ABC is extracted from the address book.
o Applying information to address books based on your selection
criteria. For example, select only information for users in
Department XYZ. This means only information on users in
Department XYZ is applied to an address book, assuming the
address book does not already own the information.
o Mapping one or more fields in one address book to fields in
another address book.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 3
o Separate fields from one address book into parts, and map the
parts to fields in other address books.
o Update IBM Mail LAN Gateway/2 alias tables with extracted
information.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
Explosive growth in the number of LAN-based systems demands
that LAN-based applications connect to existing host systems. The
IBM Address Book Synchronization for OS/2 supports this growth
through bidirectional or unidirectional address book synchronization
in a mix of CallUp, VM Custom, OV/MVS Enterprise Address Book, OV/MVS
Shared Address Book, MVS Custom, cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, and IBM
WorkGroup Directory, in an enterprise with a need to exchange mail
between host and LAN. This synchronization product is a part of the
IBM connectivity suite of products (Time and Place (TM)
Connectivity/2 and LAN Mail Gateway/2), which enhances the enterprise
opportunity to exploit LAN-based systems by providing
interoperability between the host and LAN users.
Administration resources required by an enterprise to manage
both host and LAN address books can be reduced by using Address Book
Synchronization for OS/2.
TECHINFO TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
THE MVS HOST:
o The amount of memory required depends on the size of the
directory being processed.
o The ABS/2 MVS program files require 10KB of DASD.
o The administrator requires a read/write disk with a minimum of
two times the block size of the largest address book to be
accessed.
For hardware requirements for the OS/2 workstation and the VM
host, refer to Software Announcement 294-672, dated October 25, 1994.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
THE MVS HOST:
o MVS Enterprise Address Book
- CICS/MVS (R) Version 2.1.2, or later
- OfficeVision/MVS (TM) Version 1 Release 2, with EAB option
- VS/COBOL 11 Run Time Library Release 3.0
o MVS Shared Address Book
- CICS/MVS Version 2.1.2, or later
- OfficeVision/MVS Version 1 Release 2, with PTF #UY98243
- VS/COBOL 11 Run Time Library Release 3.0
o MVS Custom Address Book
- CICS/MVS Version 2.1.2, or later

documented in the VM/ESA (R) Release 2.0 or 2.1 XEDIT Command
Reference (SX24-5250)
o For the MVS host:
- Personal Services File Cabinet and In-Basket Application
Program Interface (GAPI). GAPI is used by the ABS/2 Shared
Address Book (SAB) agent.
