  14. ABSTRACT         The IBM Consumer Transaction/2 licensed programs -- SAA (R)    
  15.           Consumer Transaction (CT (TM)) Definition/2 and SAA Consumer          
  16.           Transaction Runtime/2 -- provide the OS/2 (R) application enablers on 
  17.           which to develop integrated advanced branch teller and platform PS/2  
  18.           (R)-based financial solutions.                                        
  19.                  Version 2.1 of these licensed programs includes a repository,  
  20.           an entity-relationship data model function.  CT/2 (TM) provides a     
  21.           development control system for multi-user concurrent development in   
  22.           an OS/2 LAN environment.                                              
  23.                  Version 1.4 of IBM CT/DOS Runtime and IBM CT/DOS Platform      
  24.           provide complementary licensed programs for the PC DOS environment.   
  25.                  The change in philosophy of CT/2, with the enhancement of CT   
  26.           Definition/2 from a library-based concept to a repository (relational 
  27.           database) concept, moves toward AD/Cycle (R) compliance.  Users can   
  28.           easily develop new transactions for CT Runtime/2 or CT/DOS Runtime,   
  29.           or continue to use an existing set of transactions.  Support for the  
  30.           new financial devices, additions to the CT/2 GUI (graphical user      
  31.           interface), and other enhancements are also part of CT/2 Version 2.1. 
  32.                  CT/DOS Runtime Version 1.4 also supports the new financial     
  33.           devices plus other enhancements.                                      
  34.                  OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:  OS/2 or DOS, running on an             
  35.           appropriately configured PC 300 Series, PC 700 Series, ValuePoint     
  36.           (TM), Aptiva, ThinkPad (R), PS/2, or PS/1 (R) system.                 
  37.                  Note:  For the CT/DOS Runtime and CT/DOS Platform programs, a  
  38.           minimum of 640KB of memory is required (2MB recommended) and one hard

  77. OVERVIEW  DESCRIPTION                                                           
  78.                  CT/2 now provides highly reusable components in an             
  79.           entity-relationship data model, or repository.  Data in the           
  80.           dictionary is organized into sets called "entities."  An entity is a  
  81.           collection of data, all of which describe the same thing, object, or  
  82.           entity.  Entities are constructed according to some well defined, but 
  83.           strict rules.  A relationship is the bond that exists between two     
  84.           different sets of data. For example, a transaction is a set of data   
  85.           and a record format is another.  Several bonds or relationships can   
  86.           be described between these.                                           
  87.                  A repository is a collection of closely related information    
  88.           that describes all aspects of one or more instances of a topic it is  
  89.           built for.  The closely related information is all of the data needed 
  90.           to construct, manage, and use that collection of libraries.  The vast 
  91.           majority of additional information consists of relationships between  
  92.           the various types of data.  The detail functions of the repository    
  93.           are:

  105.           A versatile configuration is available to allow:                      
  106.           o   The single workstation configuration provides a local, non-shared 
  107.               database where multiple users may share a single workstation.     
  108.           o   The multi-workstation/LAN configuration provides a shared         
  109.               database resident on a LAN server on multiple workstations for    
  110.               multiple users where users are not tied to a single workstation.  
  111.                  The database processing options allow for remote database      
  112.           processing or local database processing, and this is mixable          
  113.           according to workstation requirements.                                
  114.           ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL OVER USER ACCESS                               
  115.           Access to the CT Definition/2 program is controlled by both user ID   
  116.           and password, and users can be restricted to a subset of CT/2

  125.           The CT Definition/2 user interface is fully CUA '91-compliant to      
  126.           provide a consistent user interface.  This minimizes the user         
  127.           learning curve while allowing maximum productivity.                   
  128.           NATIONAL LANGUAGE SUPPORT                                             
  129.           CT/2 is NLS enabled, allowing customers to have a choice of           
  130.           single-byte, left-to-right languages.  This allows complete control   
  131.           over the development of multi-language solutions by providing         
  132.           language-dependent versions of language-specific entities.            
  133.           OS/2 2.1 32-BIT ARCHITECTURE                                          
  134.           Advance functions are utilized including the OS/2 2.1 features and    
  135.           the PS/2 32-bit instruction set to assure optimum performance.        
  136.           FULLY NORMALIZED DATABASE                                             
  137.           A fully-normalized database is provided to assure reusability of      
  138.           entities.  This minimizes redundant data and development effort,      
  139.           while maximizing reuse across customer applications.  This assures    
  140.           that one name always means one thing.                                 
  141.           REFERENTIAL INTEGRITY ASSURED                                         
  142.           Referential integrity is a condition of a set of database tables in   
  143.           which all references from one table to another are valid and accurate 
  144.           or the assurance that items referenced really exist.  Referential     
  145.           constraints are the rules that govern relationships within a          
  146.           database.  The primary rule governing referential constraints is that 
  147.           non-null values of a foreign key are valid only if they exist in the  
  148.           primary key.  Four features that facilitate referential constraints   
  149.           are:                                                                  
  150.           1.  Immediate prompting for the definition of an undefined reference  
  151.           2.  Deferring the definition of an undefined reference while          
  152.               satisfying the database referential constraints                   
  153.           3.  Viewing deferred, undefined items and prompting for their         
  154.               definition                                                        
  155.           4.  Inhibiting the creation of production libraries when deferred     
  156.               items have not yet been defined                                   
  157.           ORDER INDEPENDENT DEVELOPMENT                                         
  158.           CT/2 provides for order independent development so the user may       
  159.           define entities in any order.  Full referential integrity is still    
  160.           maintained allowing users to work at their own pace and multiple      
  161.           users to work on the same problem without conflict.                   
  162.                  Version control on all CT/2 components is provided through the 
  163.           administrative definition of versioning parameters and a versioning   
  164.           scheme.  The administrative definition of versioning parameters       
  165.           provides for up to 36 different languages to be defined.  There are   
  166.           three DOS character-based screen types and two OS/2 graphical screen  
  167.           types with DOS and OS/2 Presentation Manager (R) available.           
  168.           TEST, PRODUCTION, AND DELTA LIBRARIES                                 
  169.           Support is provided for test, production, and delta libraries.  Test  
  170.           libraries are built from work-in-progress entities.  CT Runtime/2 and 
  171.           CT/DOS Runtime may be used concurrently with CT Definition/2 and must 
  172.           reside on a local workstation.  Production libraries may be           
  173.           constructed by authorized users and correspond to a specific current  
  174.           or past edition.  Production libraries are assured to contain all     
  175.

  181.           entities required for the specified edition, languages, screen types, 
  182.           and operating system assigned to the library.  They may reside on     
  183.           either a local or remote workstation.  Delta libraries may be         
  184.           constructed by authorized users and can also correspond to a specific 
  185.           current or past edition.  Delta libraries contain only those parts    
  186.           changed since a specified edition and may reside on either a local or 
  187.           remote device.                                                        
  188.           ADDITIONAL REPOSITORY ENHANCEMENTS                                    
  189.           The CT/2 Installation Utility is updated for construction of the      
  190.           databases that the repository requires in addition to the normal      
  191.           program loading.  Support is included for:                            
  192.           o   Deletion of an existing database                                  
  193.           o   Creation of a database                                            
  194.           o   Creation of the tables, indexes, and views                        
  195.           o   Loading of optional remarks into the database                     
  196.                  The CT sample libraries are converted to take advantage of the 
  197.           support provided with the repository:                                 
  198.           o   Message file names can now be expanded to eight characters.       
  199.           o   The underscore ('_') is permitted in member names for the         
  200.               repository.                                                       
  201.                  Support of the new printer panel format generated by the       
  202.           repository is also included.                                          
  203.           SUPPORT OF AD/CYCLE LEVEL 1                                           
  204.           CT Definition/2 provides support for level 1 of AD/Cycle.  The        
  205.           AD/Cycle level 1 interface supports the External Source Format (ESF)  
  206.           data exchange.  This allows data to be imported to and exported from  
  207.           the repository from external sources.  The interface used to support  
  208.           import and export functions in CT uses the Cross System Product       
  209.           External Source Format (ESF) data tags and protocol.  By using ESF to 
  210.           transport data elements to and from the data repository, CT           
  211.           Definition/2 will be AD/Cycle level 1 conformance, allowing the use   
  212.           of other products to design an application and generate an ESF export 
  213.           file to be imported into CT.                     .                    
  214.           SUPPORT FOR NEW FINANCE I/O DEVICES                                   
  215.           Support is now included for the IBM 4772 Universal Finance Printer,   
  216.           the IBM 4777 family of magnetic stripe devices, and the IBM 4778 PIN  
  217.           Pad Magnetic Stripe Reader in CT/2 and CT/DOS Runtime Version 1.4.    
  218.           ICONS AND BITMAPS ACTING AS PUSH BUTTONS                              
  219.           CT/2 allows ICONS and bitmaps to act as push buttons.  The user can   
  220.           have a push button display a bitmap or icon instead of text by        
  221.           selecting "Image" from the push button options.  When "Image" is      
  222.           selected, the "Text or Var Name" field now refers to the icon or      
  223.           bitmap.  If "Variable" is chosen, the user can dynamically change the 
  224.           image shown on a push button during CT Runtime by changing the        
  225.           contents of the variable, and then refreshing the window.  For        
  226.           improved performance, a cache for bitmaps and icons is used so the    
  227.           bitmaps are loaded just once.  Clipped bitmaps can be used to provide 
  228.           improved performance over scaled bitmaps.                             
  229.           REQUEST UNIT SIZES OF 56K                                             
  230.           The maximum, allowable SNA request unit (RU) size with CT/2 is now    
  231.           increased to 56K for use with the IBM LAN Distributed Platform (LANDP 
  232.           (TM)) product.

  239.           SUPPORT OF SECOND LEVEL PULLDOWN MENUS                                
  240.           CT/2 now has second level or cascaded pull-down menus from pull-down  
  241.           choices under a menu bar or action bar item.                          
  242.           UNLIMITED FIELD FORMATS                                               
  243.           Unlimited field formats process monetary, data, account, and picture  
  244.           fields.  This new format permits calculator-type data entry, that is, 
  245.           capturing the key in the monetary field, keying integers numbers      
  246.           first, and decimal numbers after keying the decimal point as an       
  247.           option.                                                               
  248.           ADDITIONAL ENHANCEMENTS                                               
  249.           PCLAM Caching included with CT Runtime/2 provides improved response   
  250.           time and increased system transaction throughput capacity, while      
  251.           affording a reduction in regular memory required.  This should        
  252.           improve performance and relieve the user of transaction tuning        
  253.           considerations.                                                       
  254.                  CT Runtime/2 allows Remote Override by User ID or workstation  
  255.           and automatic retry of Remote Override.  Signon to CT Runtime/2 is    
  256.           now also accepted from the Magnetic Slot Reader/Encoder (MSR/E) or    
  257.           from keyboard input via an environment variable.                      
  258.                  A new verb processes unsolicited CT Runtime/2 messages between 
  259.           transactions, or before writing a message to the host under the       
  260.           control of the application.
