ABSTRACT DataHub (TM) is IBM's strategic control point for database
systems management. The DataHub family provides a set of integrated
functions for managing, from a single workstation, local or dispersed
IBM relational databases. These functions significantly simplify the
tasks of locating, managing, and distributing data.
DataHub/2 Version 1 Release 2 (DataHub/2) supports the
following IBM relational database management systems:
o DATABASE 2 (TM) AIX/6000 (R) (DB2/6000 (TM)) for the AIX (R)

With DataHub/2, users can perform systems management tasks
from an OS/2 control point either locally or remotely. The DataHub
control point provides a consistent user interface across integrated
tools and masks the differences between databases allowing database
administrators, systems programmers, and help desk personnel to focus
on what they are doing rather than on how they are doing it. From
the workstation control point, users can:
o Browse catalogued database objects and the relationships between
the objects
o Copy objects, such as tables and their associated authorizations,
between databases
o Backup and recover databases remotely, including workstation
databases (new with DataHub/2 Version 1 Release 2)
o Manage database authorizations
o Display the status of relational units of work
o Invoke database utilities and tools
o Automate database management tasks via the DataHub command
scheduler or via interoperation with IBM's workflow management
product FlowMark (TM) for OS/2 (new with Release 2)
DataHub/2 provides the administrative point of control for an

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
SUPPORT OF DATABASE 2 AIX/6000
DataHub/2 and DataHub Support/6000 provide management capability for
DATABASE 2 AIX/6000 (DB2/6000 in the AIX environment). DB2/6000
brings to the AIX environment relational database technology that is
trusted by the world's largest corporations to store their most
valuable business data. For additional information on DB2/6000 V1
and DB2 family of products, refer to Software Announcement 293-586,
dated October 12, 1993.
From DataHub's workstation control point, users can display
DB2/6000 database objects, copy data to and from DB2/6000, remotely
backup and recover DB2/6000 databases, manage security for DB2/6000
and invoke DB2/6000 utilities and tools. The administrator may
automatically execute a series of database management tasks by
interoperating with IBM's workflow management product, IBM FlowMark
for OS/2.
DataHub's integration facilities provide DB2/6000 database
tool developers with a set of common services to reduce development
effort and promote consistency across tools.
IS OPERATIONS PRODUCTIVITY
Client/server computing, where an application may invoke services or
access data on other systems via client/server interfaces, is
becoming an important application architecture for new applications.
As organizations expand their client/server environment with DB2/6000
databases, DataHub lets them add databases without adding database
administrators. Providing a centralized solution for managing
decentralized databases, DataHub helps improve productivity by
managing more databases with fewer data management professionals.
Providing a single control point across all IBM relational
databases, DataHub makes managing geographically dispersed databases
more practical. With DataHub, administrators can manage distributed
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 3
databases from their desktops. Masking the differences between
members of DB2's product family, DataHub makes it easier to locate
and work with database objects, copy objects between databases,
remotely backup and recover DB2/6000 databases, manage user
authorizations, and invoke database utilities -- reducing training
requirements and increasing the productivity of the systems
management staff.
ENABLE CUSTOMER'S COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Cost reduction and productivity improvement are two critical factors
for businesses to succeed in today's competitive environment.
DataHub's ability to mask database differences and to manage remote
databases from a DataHub control point can: reduce training
requirements for specific databases, increase the productivity of
systems management staffs, and reduce the need for staff
administrators at the data site.
SECURITY IMPROVEMENT: DataHub's authorization management capability
streamlines security procedures required to manage multiple database
systems across the enterprise. With DataHub, administrators can
easily display and modify users' authorizations to database objects
from a single workstation control point.
STRATEGIC ARCHITECTURE -- INDUSTRY STANDARD
DataHub's participation in IBM's SystemView framework and Information
Warehouse family and its support of SQL and DRDA standards ensure its
capability can expand to protect customer investment and to meet
their system management needs.
AUTOMATION OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT TASKS
BASIC SCHEDULING OF TASKS: DataHub/2 provides Timer and Scheduler
functions that allow the database administrator to perform basic task
scheduling. The database administrator can create and save a DataHub
executable command to a file and execute that command automatically
at predesignated times. This function gives the flexibility of
scheduling routine DataHub tasks at specific times, for example, for
a database backup every Friday at midnight.
WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT: DataHub/2 supports IBM FlowMark for OS/2 to
help database administrators document their system management tasks
and automatically execute these tasks. IBM FlowMark for
OS/2 provides functions for the interactive definition of workflow
models, for their testing with graph animation, for automatic
execution of the workflow, and for the recording of execution time
parameters for future process analysis. The user interface is easy
to use, allowing DataHub executable commands to be dragged from the
DataHub window and dropped onto workflow models of IBM FlowMark for
OS/2.
Once the workflow model is created, IBM FlowMark for OS/2 can
execute the model in an unattended manner to reduce administrators'
involvement in initiating well-defined and routine system management
tasks.
For additional information on IBM FlowMark for OS/2, refer to
Software Announcement 294-203, dated April 5, 1994.
USABILITY AND OTHER ENHANCEMENTS
A number of enhancements to DataHub/2 Version 1 Release 2improve the
usability of the product and improve productivity.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 4
o CID Enablement
DataHub/2 and DataHub Support/2 conform to Configuration,
Installation and Distribution (CID) enablement, allowing for
remote installation. DataHub Support/6000 installation uses
installp, which provides similar functionality on the RISC
System/6000 (R) workstation.
o Interactive Send/Receive for DB2 on MVS
This DataHub tool builders enhancement makes it easier for
tool builders to enable real-time database management tools (such
as performance monitors) to the DataHub/2 workstation.
o Additional Database Objects
DataHub/2 Version 1 Release 2 new relational database
object definitions extend the types of catalog objects that can
be displayed on the DataHub object navigation and selection
window.
o Additional User ID support
DataHub/2 now allows for the use of User Profile
Management for storing user IDs and passwords. The same user
ID/password is used for Database and Tools Conversation
Connectivity.
o Remote Backup and Recovery of workstation databases
Client/server computing, where an application may invoke
services or access data on other systems via client/server
interfaces, is becoming an important application architecture for
customers. User demands for recovery of critical business data
stored in workstation databases is growing rapidly. In addition
to remote backup and recovery of DB2/MVS and DB2/400 tables
within the database, DataHub/2 Version 1 Release 2 supports
remote backup and recovery of the DB2/2 and DB2/6000 workstation
databases. Remote backup and recovery provides for the usage of
a single workstation control point for database management tasks
across the DB2 family of products and an easy-to-use graphical
front-end.

PLANNING INFORMATION
SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL
The announced programs use the security and auditability
features of the host hardware or software.
DataHub preserves the integrity of the host (MVS, VM, OS/400,
AIX, or OS/2) database (DB2/MVS, DB2/VM, DB2/400, DB2/6000, DB2/2)
and workstation security procedures and capabilities at all times.
DataHub is subject to the limitations of the host or databases with
which it is operating. To maintain information system security,
DataHub works in conjunction with:
o OS/2 security, user IDs and passwords
o Host security, user IDs and passwords
o Database security, user IDs and passwords
o Communications between DataHub and remote hosts.
DataHub/2 users are identified by a user ID and password at
the workstation. The user ID and password are used to encrypt and
decrypt the user's host user IDs and passwords, which may be retained
by DataHub in a DataHub profile table. All user passwords stored by
DataHub in nonvolatile storage, including databases tables, are
encrypted. DataHub also supplies a user exit for encryption and
decryption routines.
All authorizations at the database are controlled by the
database manager based on the authorizations granted to those user
IDs.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.

ONE-TIME CHARGE: Customers who pay an OTC for a licensed program
receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional
charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional
feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is
announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program
for an OTC and replace the prior program, an upgrade charge may
apply.
DISTRIBUTED FEATURE ONE-TIME CHARGE: Customers who pay an OTC for
additional distributed features may copy machine-readable readable
program material and documentation. One copy may be made for each
additional distributed feature ordered.
VARIABLE CHARGES: The applicable graduated or processor-based charge
will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the
licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated
to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the
charge of the next higher group listed applies.
For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a
higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then
current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time
charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no
adjustment or refund of one-time charges paid.
For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses,
the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group
will apply.

Announcement 292-204, dated May 5, 1993.
