written for the NetView for OS/2 platform.
o The product utilizes a common user interface that lets the
administrator execute all of the management functions with a
common look-and-feel based on CUA (TM) '91 (Workplace Shell (R)
paradigm). The user interface is compliant with the IBM
SystemView (R) Integration Level 2.
o An application development platform is provided to allow creation
of systems and network management applications. Interfaces are
provided for user interface integration and access to platform
functions.
o NetView for OS/2 is enabled to provide remote installation,
configuration, and distribution (CID).
NetView for OS/2 is designed for management of systems and
networks. NetView for OS/2 provides improved productivity to both
the administrator by providing a powerful easy-to-use management
facility and the ultimate end user by improving network and resource
availability.
NETVIEW FOR OS/2 MANAGER: The manager facility of NetView for OS/2
is a platform for the creation and execution of systems and network
management applications and includes basic management function that
complements the applications. It is the base for the managing system
in the SNMP management model. It offers standards-based interfaces
and services to allow applications to be written to manage any SNMP
device. Some of the major components of the manager are:
o Management Desk Graphical User Interface
o Management Application Programming Interface
o Topology/Discovery
o Fault Management
o Configuration Management
o Performance Management
o Interoperability
o SNMP MIB Support
o Protocols
o Remote Command Line Interface
MANAGEMENT DESK GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE: The management desk
component provides a common user interface for displaying managed
resources. This component establishes the user interface metaphor
for accessing systems management functions provided by NetView for
OS/2 and other management applications based upon NetView for OS/2.
Resources may be grouped into collections, for example all servers,
all routers, or all devices at one location. Applications are
created and can be invoked against individual resources or against
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 4
entire collections.
A set of enabling services that allow easy extension of the
presentation metaphor includes functions provided by systems
management applications. These services are made available via the
System Object Model (SOM) programming interface of OS/2
Version 2.0/2.1 This interface is used to access topology data and
the presentation services.
The management desk component conforms to SystemView
Integration Level 2 and Common User Access (TM) (CUA '91) (Workplace
Shell paradigm).
MANAGEMENT APPLICATION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE: The programming
interface for application development is the industry standard SNMP
API and is endorsed by IBM's SystemView structure. C and C++
language bindings to the SNMP API are provided.
TOPOLOGY/DISCOVERY: System and network resources are automatically
discovered. This discovery function initially accesses the entire
network and stores knowledge of each resource connected via IP, IPX,
or NetBIOS transports. The discovery process does not require the
device to have an SNMP agent. The discovery application keeps the
topology updated as resources are added or deleted from the network.
FAULT MANAGEMENT: The fault management facility of NetView for OS/2
collects, displays, stores, and upon request forwards to NetView on
the host (as alerts) or NetView for AIX any traps received from
managed resources.
The fault facility can also store event reports in an event
log for future reference. By using the event function, distributed
systems management programs can concentrate on the management of the
resources, rather than on routine event report routing and logging.
Also within this component is an event automation function
that allows the user to specify actions to be taken when a particular
trap is received. For example: a trap could cause an application to
be executed or message logged. In addition, NetView for OS/2
provides user-configurable status changes that allow a user to
specify the status of a node for specific traps. One enterprise
specific trap could indicate that a server is almost out of disk
space or another trap could indicate that a router is down.
CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT: Network administrators can gather
historical information about management information base (MIB)
variables of SNMP devices using NetView for OS/2's MIB data
collector. The information can be accessed directly or it can be
saved in a file and printed in an ASCII format, or exported to a
spreadsheet format for future network planning and problem
determination.
Also available for customers to address the need for
configuration and inventory management is a policy-based component,
that collects and centrally maintains OS/2 workstation data (not
limited to configuration data). Information such as hardware
inventory data (sometimes referred to as vital product data, or VPD),
software inventory (SYSLEVELS), can be collected and stored at a
central site. This data is stored in flat files when collected as
ASCII files or in an SQL DB2/2 database when collected as binary
files.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 5
NetView for OS/2 can monitor files at OS/2 workstations on a
regularly-scheduled basis. The monitoring schedule and the names of
the files to monitor are defined by the user and specified in the
NetView for OS/2 policy notebook.
NetView for OS/2 can monitor the status of any file; data file
or executable, plain-text or binary files. At the times specified in
the schedule, each file is checked to determine whether it has been
changed since the last check. The criteria for determining change is
user specified and can include date/time stamp, filesize, and a CRC
checksum. NetView for OS/2 can also be configured to collect
monitored files and store them in flat files and collect information
about the files (date/time stamp, filesize) for storage into an SQL
DB2/2 database. This function can be used to manage critical
workstation configuration files such as CONFIG.SYS, or AUTOEXEC.BAT,
or to monitor and collect the output or workstation utilities such as
backup or diagnostics programs.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: Performance of network resources can be
monitored by setting and checking thresholds. Threshold exceed
conditions are detected and presented to the administrator.
Real-time performance statistics are gathered and presented to the
administrator in an easy-to-read graphical form. This information,
provided in peaks and averages, identifies trends and helps track
problems.
INTEROPERABILITY:
With NetView for OS/2: Hierarchical support is provided
between NetView for OS/2s systems. Notifications can be received,
processed, and forwarded to another NetView for OS/2. Commands can
be received by managed NetView for OS/2 systems from a higher level
NetView for OS/2 managing system.
With NetView on the System/370 (TM), System/390 (R): NetView
for OS/2 provides complementary network management support with the
host NetView. Traps received from SNMP agents are filtered and
converted to SNA alerts by NetView for OS/2 and then sent to NetView
on the host. Alerts from LMU may also be filtered and sent to
NetView on the host.
NetView for OS/2 can receive commands from NetView (via CM/2
ROPS) and send responses back to NetView. This two-way IBM solution
begins addressing the need for cooperative network management that
provides a comprehensive network management solution with installed
NetView products.
With NetView for AIX: NetView for OS/2 provides complementary
network management support with NetView for AIX. Traps received from
SNMP agents are filtered and forwarded to NetView for AIX. Alerts
received from the LMU agents are converted to traps and forwarded to
NetView for AIX. NetView for OS/2 can also receive commands from
NetView for AIX (via TCP/IP) and send responses back.
SNMP MIB SUPPORT: With NetView for OS/2's MIB loader, standard
MIB-II objects as well as enterprise-specific MIB objects can be
managed. Once a MIB is loaded, the fault, configuration, and
performance applications can be used. Also MIB values can be
retrieved or set by a simple point-and-click method of the NetView
for OS/2's MIB browser. When specific MIB objects need to be
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 6
monitored on a regular basis, NetView for OS/2's MIB application
builder can be used to quickly build applications for standard and
enterprise-specific MIB objects, without any programming involved.
Once an application is built, the user can add it to the icons'
"pull-down", thus giving the network administrator easy access to the
new application.
In addition, using the MIB data collector, MIB information can
be collected and thresholds can be identified on the collected data
so that events are generated once a threshold is exceeded.
Performance problems can be detected by using this data collection
function of NetView for OS/2. The MIB data collector can both
collect data and continually monitor devices in the network based on
polling parameters set by the user. This data can be presented in
either graphical, tabular, or form format.
New MIBs can be easily added to NetView for OS/2 so that
applications can use them to manage network devices.
MIBs are shipped with the product and on CSDs. They will also
be available through Internet via "anonymous FTP to
netview.cary.ibm.com or 192.35.236.7".
PROTOCOLS: The managing system communicates with the managed
resource using SNMP, an industry standard management protocol, over
either IP, IPX, NetBIOS, or SNA (using Anynet/2). The SNMP interface
allows application programs to be written with little knowledge of
the underlying transport protocol.
REMOTE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE: This facility provides the ability
for the user to issue commands from the manager to be executed on an
OS/2-managed workstation. This allows remote execution of OS/2
commands and REXX procedures from a management console. This command
facility may be initiated from the manager's GUI or the OS/2 command
line interface. Via LMU there is also a similar capability to issue
commands to the Windows workstations.
OS/2 AGENT: NetView for OS/2 provides an SNMP agent for managing the
OS/2 Version 2.0/2.1 systems. The following resources are examples
of objects that may be managed:
o Physical machine (for example, model ID, serial number, type,
owner information).
o Adapters (such as Micro Channel (R))
o Floppy and/or fixed disk drive
o Processor and/or co-processor
o Printer
o Logical serial and/or logical parallel port
o Logical pointing device
o Logical volume
o Keyboard
o Display
o OS/2 process
o OS/2 operating system
o Spooled printer
For the OS/2 agent, a rich set of metrics for collection of
performance data is used. These include instrumentation for CPU,
memory, files, FAT cache, HPFS cache, physical disk, printer, and
communications port. An example of the metrics for the CPU are:
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 7
o Time the processor was busy
o Number of times a thread was scheduled to use the CPU
o Number of interrupts raised
o Time spent servicing interrupts
OS/2 LAN REQUESTER AGENT: The OS/2 LAN requester agent allows
management to control and monitor the state of the requester, get and
set both initial and runtime configuration attributes, gather
statistics about the requesters' operation, and gather requester VPD.
The requester agent can also notify the manager of detected problems.
A MIB definition is available for each of the resource managers and
their managed resources.
LAN SERVER AGENT: The OS/2 LAN server agent provides managed objects
that:
o Allow most server and requester services to be started, stopped,
configured, statistics gathered if the service has any, and the
operational state monitored.
o Emit traps when certain errors occur. Examples of possible traps
that the agent provides are:
- Error and audit log (almost full, full)
- Disk nearing capacity
- Thread limit reached
IBM NETVIEW FOR OS/2 -- VERSION 2.1
OS/2 AGENT: Print queue management will be added to the OS/2 agent.
IBM DB2/2 AGENT: NetView for OS/2 includes support for the DB2/2 1.1
product. It allows the management of the database requester, server,
and DDCS gateway functions. This agent is based on the IETF RDBMS
MIB. Some examples of the functions provided by the DB2/2 agent are:
o Backup/restore/roll-forward database: Provides the recovery
capability for corrupted databases
o Catalog/uncatalog database, remote database, node: Stores/deletes
the databases location information in the database directory
o Get database status: Collects the database status such as the
last time for backup and number of users connected.
o Collect extensive performance metrics
OS/2 COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER AGENT: IBM NetView for OS/2 includes the
agent to manage the IBM Communications Manager/2 1.1 product. The
Communications Manager agent is focused on the management of
dependent LUs, APPC sessions and APPN (R) end, and network nodes.
The Communications Manager currently sends a number of events
to NetView for link problems and adapter errors. These events are
also planned to be provided as SNMP traps to the management
applications running on the OS/2 management platform.
IBM LAN NETVIEW MANAGEMENT UTILITIES FOR OS/2 VERSION 1.1 (LMU)
The LMU product is included with NetView for OS/2. LMU's
implementation for NetView for OS/2 has been enhanced to operate more
efficiently with NetView for OS/2 through the newly implemented SNMP
APIs. LMU topology data is loaded into NetView for OS/2's database
and integrated into the management desk GUI. All of the functions
available in LMU as a stand-alone product are available when used
with NetView for OS/2.
When LMU is selected from the management desk user interface,
the application is launched. LMU is an OS/2-based set of services
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 8
that aids systems management of LANs. LMU contains agents for:
o IBM DOS 3.3, or later
o IBM PC DOS 6.1, or later
o OS/2 1.3, or later
o LAN Server 1.3.1, or later

Refer to Software Announcement 293-463 for more details.
NETWARE SERVICES MANAGER (NSM) 1.5 APPLICATION
For customers who have NetWare 3.11 or 4.0 installed, NetView for
OS/2 allows the use of a management application, NetWare Services
Manager (for NetView for OS/2) v1.5, marketed by IBM and Novell.
The NSM application is launched when selected from the
management desk user interface. The following is a sample of the
application function available:
o Server and workstation schematics -- Provides an overview of the
services and hardware resident on the server and its
configuration. For example, double-clicking on a NetWare server
icon opens a window which displays graphical views of available
RAM, disk utilization, and the types of network interface cards
that are installed in the server.
o User-defined alert thresholds -- Users can define their own
thresholds for a variety of parameters relating to server
performance and configuration, such as number of open files on
the server and client/ server transactions. When these
thresholds are exceeded, alarms are automatically generated.
o Printer and printer queue configuration and status -- NSM
automatically locates NetWare printers and their print queues and
displays associated information, such as active jobs in the print
queue.
o NLM monitor -- Automatically displays a list of NLMs actively
running on the server and associated memory utilization, names,
version numbers, and copyright information,
o Automatic server fault and alert notification -- The entire
NetWare environment can be monitored at once. Network managers
can quickly isolate network problems, whatever the source, and
quickly and efficiently respond to prevent further network
disruption.
CUSTOMER VALUE
USER PRODUCTIVITY
NetView for OS/2 improves user productivity by providing a common
management platform from which a variety of management tasks may be
performed using a consistent GUI. Applications will share a common
topology display and menu structure. This common user interface for
managing the environment can reduce operator training and reduce the
number of operators required to manage diverse resources.
The management desk component of NetView for OS/2 provides a
common user interface to both the NetView for OS/2 platform and to
systems management applications from IBM and/or other vendors.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 9
Services are provided to ensure a single point-of-entry into systems
management applications, using the SAA (R) CUA '91 architecture.
Where multiple applications may be required to complete a systems
management task, the single point-of-access can reduce the need for
specific applications skills. These services are provided using a
GUI that presents the resources to be managed as objects and allows
the user to perform actions on these objects without having to know
the specifics of each application.
The management desk component helps the user find and act upon
managed resources (for example, file servers) within complex
configurations. Resources are presented graphically. Resource
objects are presented from the viewpoint of the task being performed,
rather than from the viewpoint of a specific application. The user
is able to perform functions on these objects based on the task to be
accomplished (for example, get performance statistics for server)
without having to directly access the underlying application.
While navigating through the set of objects, the user is able
to have multiple active graphical views of the set of related
objects. When changes are made to one view (window), the changes are
automatically reflected in all other relevant views for this
particular user, with no additional user action required. The
graphical techniques used reduce complexity and let the user manage
larger volumes of objects. The graphical presentation of multiple
views helps the user recognize and effectively solve problems.
NetView for OS/2 provides the developer with open and
well-documented APIs for application development. The APIs access a
set of system services that allow the developer to create
applications without the need to know communications protocols or
partner application location.
Improved productivity will also be realized by using vendor
written NetView for OS/2 applications. IBM is working with vendors
in developing these applications through its NetView Association
program. This program provides application developers with support
during development or migration of applications to the NetView for
OS/2 platform. For more information send a letter to:

AVAILABILITY: The availability of a customer's network and its
systems increases when using NetView for OS/2's pro-active and
reactive management facilities for the multi-vendor environment.
NetView for OS/2 provides a "state-of-the-art" tool for quickly
diagnosing and resolving failures.
With NetView for OS/2, the customer's IP, IPX, and NetBIOS
devices and system resources are automatically discovered, added to
the management desk and monitored. SNMP agents are not required on
the devices to allow them to be discovered. When the network
changes, a discovery capability automatically indicates the changes
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 10
and will update the customer's network display. This saves network
administrators the time of tracking changes in the configuration and
updating the network data base.
NetView for OS/2 provides a facility that allows the user to
define what actions to take when NetView for OS/2 receives a standard
or enterprise-specific SNMP trap. This provides for automation of
fault management such as specifying the text message that is logged
or programs/applications to be executed when a SNMP trap arrives.
This automation facility improves network and resource availability
by quickly taking corrective action without operator intervention.
NetView for OS/2 is designed to continuously monitor the
network with the goal being to eliminate outages. A large majority
of the operational parameters can be changed while NetView for OS/2
continues to collect information about the network. New applications
may be started, or current ones turned off, without disrupting data
collection.
INSTALLABILITY: NetView for OS/2's installation procedure provides
an easy menu-driven interface to install the product. The
installation process utilizes an install menu to provide easy
installation with minimal user interaction. The user is relieved
from having to understand complex, and often error prone, commands
required to start/stop, maintain, and configure the applications.
NetView for OS/2's SNMP implementation requires minimal
storage while at the same time providing excellent performance.
ADAPTABILITY: NetView for OS/2's management API gives the
flexibility to create applications to meet any customers needs. The
end user interface API allows applications seamless integration with
NetView for OS/2. The SNMP API provides an open, public domain API
based on Carnegie Mellon's SNMP APIs.
New MIBs can be easily added to NetView for OS/2. As vendors
develop new MIBs IBM will test and make them available to customers.
This facility will allow customer to easily keep NetView for OS/2
current with the types the resources in the network.
With NetView for OS/2's Management Information Base (MIB)
loader, standard MIB-II objects as well as enterprise-specific MIB
objects can be managed. When specific MIB objects need to be
monitored on a regular basis, NetView for OS/2's MIB application
builder can be used to quickly build applications for standard and
enterprise-specific MIB objects without any programming involved.
Once an application is built, the user can add it to the icons'
"pull-down", thus giving the network administrator easy access to the
new application.
INTEROPERABILITY: Cooperative management between NetView for OS/2
and a higher level NetView for OS/2, NetView on the host, or NetView
for AIX improves network and resource availability. Cooperative
management allows for the quick recognition of network management
information from different sources. This results in faster response
to error conditions or performance degradations. NetView on the host
and NetView for AIX automation capabilities, used in conjunction with
NetView for OS/2 management functions, will also result in faster
responses to conditions that would otherwise require the attention of
an operator or network administrator.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 11
Interoperability with NetView on the host and NetView for AIX
gives additional flexibility to allow customers to place management
where it best fits their needs.

PRODUCT POSITIONING
NetView for OS/2 provides an SNMP management platform, three generic
SNMP applications, (fault, performance, and configuration) along with
agents for the management of systems and networks. The generic
management applications are based upon the same infrastructure (SNMP
APIs) as NetView for AIX that facilitates sharing of applications.
NetView on the host, NetView for AIX, and NetView for OS/2 are
management platforms consisting of platform services and
applications. LAN NetView Management Utilities for OS/2 can run as
either a stand-alone product, as a proxy agent for NetView for AIX
(via LMU/6000), or as an application with NetView for OS/2 (when
purchased with NetView for OS/2, it may only be run as part of
NetView for OS/2). NetView for Windows is a new low-end (SNMP)
management system for management from a Windows environment.
These multiple platforms and cooperative management
applications are necessary to support complex customer environments
that encompass workgroups and distributed and centralized networks
with multiple points-of-control. The management strategy that these
management products support has a continuing objective to enhance the
existing dynamic synergy between platforms and offer a complete set
of management solutions.
"Which of these products should I use?" The answer depends on
many factors: the size or type of distributed network, the mix of
installed hardware (mainframe, RISC, or Intel**-based), the network
node configuration (that is, SNMP or non-SNMP devices, types of
workstations), preferred method of management (centralized versus
distributed), importance of managing workstations and network
connections, and cost. There are many other variables that could be
considered in the context of a particular customer. The management
solution may be provided by a combination of management systems,
management products and associated applications, all functioning
together through the integration of operational control.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 12
NETVIEW ON SYSTEM/370 OR SYSTEM/390: NetView is used for either
centralized management or distributed management when used in
conjunction with the NetView for OS/2, NetView for AIX, or other
distributed management facilities. NetView is the centralized
management solution within the enterprise performing as the focal or
consolidation point for connection of distributed and workgroup
customer environments. The NetView family of products and
applications facilitates the management solutions for a broad range
of network types by enhancing the infrastructure support and synergy
between the available management products, such as; NetView for OS/2,
NetView for AIX, and LAN NetView Management Utilities. This enables
the leveraging and protection of both vendor and customer investment.
NETVIEW FOR AIX: The NetView for AIX product initially focused on
SNMP device management, using applications for fault, configuration,
performance functions, and management of RISC workstations. Function
has been expanded to include non-SNMP devices via LMU/6000. LMU/6000
has enlarged NetView for AIX's scope to include management of
distributed and campus environments. Trouble Ticket (TM)/6000 gives
NetView for AIX the capability of responding to a problem or alert
situation, with tracking and reporting. NetView for OS/2 now
increases NetView for AIX's scope of management through NetView for
OS/2's forwarding of alerts from its managed environment.
NETVIEW FOR OS/2: NetView for OS/2 provides management of the
multi-vendor network by providing full native SNMP support and
porting the NetView for AIX configuration, fault, and performance
applications as the basis of NetView for OS/2 function. This
potentially expands the associated application offerings of NetView
for OS/2 and moves towards accomplishment of mutual synergy with
NetView for AIX. This common set of facilities is incorporated
within the NetView for OS/2 product versus multiple separate product
offerings. Customers now order one package that contains NetView for
OS/2, with its agents, and LMU with its agents. The customer now has
the ability to manage diverse and distributed systems and networks
from an OS/2 platform with the added capability to integrate within
the enterprise.
NETVIEW FOR WINDOWS: NetView for Windows is a low-end SNMP network
management platform for LAN environments, with support for specific
network devices (IBM 8230 Model 3 Controlled Access Unit and IBM 8224
Ethernet Stackable Hub). NetView for OS/2 is also a SNMP management
platform for enterprise systems, including the network, LAN, and
workgroup environments.
NetView for OS/2 and NetView for Windows offer comprehensive
management capabilities. NetView for OS/2 offers GUI, API,
application builder, automatic device discovery, along with generic
SNMP applications (fault, configuration, and performance) giving the
system and network administrators a powerful, easy-to-use tool to
establish management policies for improved systems and network
availability. NetView for Windows (like NetView for OS/2) utilizes
object oriented technology, to provide integrated fault, performance,
and configuration management.
LAN NETVIEW MANAGEMENT UTILITIES FOR OS/2: LAN NetView Management
Utilities for OS/2 is a suite of applications for managing OS/2, DOS,
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 13
Windows, OS/2 LAN Server, NetWare clients and servers, Apple clients,
and performs as an SNMP proxy for NetView for AIX. LMU can be an
entry-level systems manager solution for the distributed workgroup
environment or as the integrated systems management support for other
NetView family of products and applications. With LMU/6000 running
on NetView for AIX, there is the added benefit of complete
operational integration between the two products, similar to that
which exists between NetView for OS/2 and LMU.

TECHINFO TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: IBM NetView for OS/2 executes on IBM PS/2
(R), IBM Industrial Computer, and non-IBM personal computer hardware
configurations that are supported by IBM OS/2 Version 2.0 with the
Service Pak 2 or IBM OS/2 2.1 with Service Pak 1.
IBM NetView for OS/2 can function in client or server machines
with appropriate RAM and disk. A LAN adapter or communications card
is also required. There is currently no restriction that the
hardware be IBM only.
IBM NetView for OS/2 has the following memory requirements:
OS/2 MANAGING WORKSTATIONS: 8MB to 10MB of additional memory is
needed for NetView for OS/2 above other prerequisite and corequisite
software. If LMU is used, an additional 4MB of memory is required.
An additional 1MB per 200 managed systems is also needed.
40MB of additional disk is needed above other prerequisite and
corequisite software.
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 14
The minimum configuration is a system with a 486DX or
equivalent processor.
It is recommended that a managing system not be used as a
server system (such as a LAN Server, database server, and fax
server).
OS/2 MANAGED WORKSTATIONS: Depending on current memory usage,
additional memory may not be required. The number of agents and the
frequency of use, frequency of monitoring, and the frequency of
management requests may increase memory requirements. Memory
requirements can vary from 256KB to 1MB. The OS/2 managed
workstation requires a minimum of a 386 or equivalent processor.
6MB of disk is required for the OS/2 agent including LAN
requester and LAN server.
For more information about the hardware requirements of
prerequisite and corequisite software products, refer to the product
documentation for those products.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
THE MANAGING SYSTEM:

COMPATIBILITY: NetView for OS/2 -- Version 2.0 is a follow on for
IBM LAN NetView Version 1.0 family of products. Version 2.0 uses the
same user interface but changes the agents and applications.
Version 1.0 agents are not supported with Version 2.0. Program
migration is performed by replacing the current release with
Version 2.0.
The APIs between LMU and NetView for OS/2 have been change to
improve performance between the two products. Customer having LMU
installed do not need to install the LMU contained with NetView for
OS/2.
PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Performance of IBM NetView for OS/2 is
dependent on several factors, including hardware performance (a
I486** processor or equivalent/faster processor), the number of
concurrently-used applications, and the frequency of performing
systems management functions.
Performance of OS/2-managed workstations is dependent on the
hardware (an 80386 or equivalent/faster), the number of agents that
