  4. ABSTRACT          The AnyNet (TM)/2 Sockets over SNA Gateway Version 1.1
  5.            delivers a set of three gateway sizes.  The low-priced entry size
  6.            meets the needs of small, remote offices by providing 20 concurrent
  7.            connections.  The 100- and 250-connection gateways support the
  8.            requirements of medium and large networks.
  9.                   You can change the size of AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway by simply
  10.            using a password; you don't have to reinstall or reconfigure
  11.            anything.  These options are separately priced to provide the most
  12.            cost-effective gateway solution to your multiple protocol networks.
  13.                   The AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway, in conjunction with AnyNet/2 and
  14.            AnyNet/MVS software, connects SNA and TCP/IP networks to allow
  15.            sockets applications data to flow freely across both environments.
  16.            Your workstation and hosts in SNA networks can now run sockets
  17.            applications and appear to be directly connected to your TCP/IP
  18.            network.  In addition, dual AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateways can be used to
  19.            connect TCP/IP networks across a SNA network.  All of the connections
  20.            are made with no changes to your sockets applications, TCP/IP
  21.            network, or SNA network.

  68. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  69.                   The AnyNet/2 Sockets over SNA Gateway Version 1.1 provides you
  70.            with three combinations.  When you initially order your gateway, you
  71.            select a capacity level of 20, 100, or 250 concurrent connections.  A
  72.            password is provided to unlock that capacity.  As your network grows,
  73.            select the AnyNet/2 Sockets Size Upgrade Kit that meets your
  74.            connectivity needs.  The kit contains a password that increases the
  75.            capacity of your existing Version 1.1 gateway.  You only need to
  76.            rerun the configuration menu where prompts will guide you to enter
  77.            the new password.  There is no need for reinstallation or
  78.            reconfiguration of your existing gateway.
  79.                   The AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway Version 1.1 supports two socket
  80.            connection types:
  81.            o   Stream sockets connection
  82.            o   Datagram sockets connection
  83.            Within the gateway, connections are represented by gateway entries.
  84.            Gateway entries for stream sockets are created when the sockets are
  85.            connected.  These entries are deleted when both applications close
  86.            their side of the connection.  Gateway entries for datagram sockets
  87.            are created as needed, and are deleted after being unused (idle) for
  88.            a period of time (approximately 15 to 120 seconds depending on system
  89.            loading).  The following are typical connection requirements for

  138.            APPLICATION PORTABILITY THROUGH STANDARDS SUPPORT
  139.            The AnyNet product family is implemented using the Multiprotocol
  140.            Transport Networking (MPTN) architecture.  MPTN is a component of the
  141.            Common Transport Semantics layer of the Networking Blueprint.
  142.                   To make the MPTN architecture available to all vendors and
  143.            broadly accepted, it was submitted to X/OPEN.  The first X/OPEN MPTN
  144.            document, X/OPEN GUIDE: MULTIPROTOCOL TRANSPORT NETWORKING
  145.            ARCHITECTURE, was published in January 1994.  In addition, Dr. Petr
  146.            Janeck, Common Applications Environment (CAE) Development Manager,
  147.            X/OPEN Company Limited, announced, "X/OPEN has started work on two
  148.            MPTN specifications, the Access Node and the Address Mapper.  They
  149.            will be developed into X/OPEN Preliminary Specifications, which we
  150.            expect to be approved for publication by the end of this year."
  151.                   The AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway Version 1.1 enhances application
  152.            portability by providing connectivity between SNA and TCP/IP networks
  153.            totally transparent to your sockets applications.
  154.            APPLICATIONS ENABLEMENT
  155.            Significant business solutions are provided by enabling easy access
  156.            to new applications for end users in SNA networks.  For example,
  157.            users at workstations in a SNA network can run sockets applications
  158.            such as FTP, Telnet, and NFS.  These applications can communicate
  159.            through the AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway to applications and data on

  162.            Programmers can now write applications to their preferred interface
  163.            and the applications can run over different network protocols.  No
  164.            application rewrite is required for a new network environment.  This

  168.            Since the AnyNet product family can help customers reduce the number
  169.            of physical and logical networks required, the resultant network is

  464.                   The available order types are as follows:
  465.            o   Program Package -- program diskette with documentation.
  466.            o   Additional License Copies -- authorization for the customer who

  468.                diskette and documentation.  There are two ways to receive
  469.                authorization to copy.  Receipt of the invoice authorizes the
  470.                customer to make the Additional License Copy (the IBM Customer
  471.                Agreement (ICA) must be in effect).  The customer also has the
  472.                option of ordering a Proof of Additional License certificate (the
  473.                ICA is not required).  When the Volume Discount Exhibit, Volume
  474.                Additional License Usage (VALU) applies, authorization to make
  475.                Additional License Copies begins on the start date specified in
  476.                the Addendum for Volume Discount.
  477.            o   Program Package Upgrade -- program diskette with documentation.
  478.            o   Additional License Copy Upgrade -- authorization for the customer
  479.                who has a program package upgrade to make a single copy of the
  480.                program diskette and documentation.  Receipt of the invoice
  481.                authorizes the customer to make the Additional License Copy
  482.                upgrade (the ICA must be in effect).  The customer also has the
  483.                option of ordering a Proof of Additional License Upgrade
  484.                certificate (the ICA is not required).
  485.            IBM EDUCATION FULFILLMENT CENTER:  The announced program is eligible
  486.            to be ordered through the IBM Education Fulfillment Center.  Note
  487.            that availability through the IBM Education Fulfillment Center may
  488.            not coincide with the programming availability dates noted in other
  489.            sections of this document.
  490.                   The IBM Education Fulfillment Center is the order processing
  491.            location for selected personal computers and related
  492.            hardware/software for eligible education end-users.
  493.            PROGRAM UPGRADE
  494.                   The program package upgrade option allows currently licensed
  495.            users of AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway Version 1.0 to obtain the new
  496.            function at no charge.  The upgrade will provide the same gateway
  497.            capacity (100 connections) as the Version 1.0 gateway.  Customers can
  498.            then order the desired AnyNet/2 Sockets Gateway Size Upgrade Kit to
  499.            increase the gateway capacity.  These upgrades will be available
  500.            June 24, 1994.  Orders will be accepted June 24, 1994.  These
  501.            upgrades will not be available through IBM Authorized Personal
  502.            Computer Dealers and Industry Remarketers -- Personal Computers
  503.            certified to market IBM Authorized Advanced Products.  Upgrades from
  504.            Version 1.0 to Version 1.1 can be obtained by mailing the original
  505.            Proof of Licenses (or invoice if purchased on the ICA) along with a
  506.            complete return address to:

  510.                   Customers can also order upgrades through the local IBM office

  516.            Customers can also order upgrades through the local IBM office using

  519.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  520.            LICENSING:  The program in this announcement is licensed under the
  521.            terms and conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement.  A copy of
  522.            the agreement is included in the program package.
  523.            ADDITIONAL LICENSE:  The ICA must be in effect, or the Proof of
  524.            Additional License certificate must be acquired.
  525.            LIMITED WARRANTY:
  526.            o   Program:  Yes.  Media:  Three months.

  528.            PROGRAM SERVICES:  Program services will be available during the
