  4. ABSTRACT          NetFinity (R) is a highly flexible, low-cost tool to help
  5.            users with hardware and general systems management functions.  It is
  6.            designed to manage systems based on 386SX Intel** Architecture (or
  7.            equivalent), or higher, personal computers.  NetFinity complements
  8.            LMU/2 and LAN NetView (R).  NetFinity is CID
  9.            (configuration/installation/distribution) enabled, permitting remote
  10.            installation.
  11.                   NetFinity is comprised of two products:
  12.            o   NetFinity Services (includes NetFinity Services for OS/2 (R),
  13.                NetFinity Services for Windows (1), and NetFinity Services for
  14.                NetWare**)
  15.            o   NetFinity Manager for OS/2 (includes NetFinity Services -- one
  16.                Manager license, one Services license, and documentation)
  17.                   NetFinity Services provides the local user and the NetFinity
  18.            Manager with the following services:
  19.            o   Hardware and software configuration details
  20.            o   Resource monitoring and alerting
  21.            o   Security management
  22.            o   Customizable system profile
  23.            o   System partition access (PS/2 (R) systems only) for systems with

  81. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  82.            PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS
  83.            NETWARE SERVICES:  NetFinity Version 2.0 can run NetFinity's
  84.            extensive set of services on NetWare Servers.  This additional
  85.            capability allows the LAN administrator to monitor and manage NetWare
  86.            Servers and IBM LAN Servers from a single station.
  87.            WINDOWS SERVICES:  NetFinity expands its set of services to include
  88.            workstations running Windows 3.1.  The Windows 3.1 user can now take
  89.            advantage of NetFinity's services locally, while the LAN
  90.            administrator monitors and manages the workstation.
  91.            DATABASE EXPORT SERVICE:  NetFinity Version 2.0 now features the
  92.            ability to export data gathered by the System Information Service and
  93.            by the System Profile Service to a DB/2 database system on the
  94.            network.
  95.            EVENT SCHEDULER SERVICE:  NetFinity Version 2.0 now includes the
  96.            capability to set scheduled events.  The Event Scheduler Service can
  97.            automatically start NetFinity services on one or more systems.
  98.            Events can be set to execute on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or
  99.            yearly basis.
  100.            PREDICTIVE FAILURE ANALYSIS SERVICE (PFA):  NetFinity Version 2.0
  101.            includes the powerful PFA service that enables a user to monitor
  102.            PFA-enabled hard drives and receive a warning from the drive when it
  103.            senses it is about to fail.  This warning will normally come within
  104.            24 to 48 hours of failure of the hard drive.  This provides the
  105.            customer with enough time to back up their data before encountering
  106.            an actual failure.
  107.                   For hard drives still covered by IBM warranty, IBM will
  108.            replace the drive if the NetFinity PFA service detects a failure.
  109.                   NetFinity's PFA service also provides the ability to monitor
  110.            retry rates and disk activity rates on any hard drive.
  111.            POWER-ON ERROR DETECT:  NetFinity Version 2.0 exploits PS/2 Micro
  112.            Channel (R) systems with reference partitions on their hard disks.
  113.            The Power-on Error Detect Service comes in two sections:  one is
  114.            loaded on the workstation or server and the other is a service in
  115.            NetFinity.
  116.                   When an error is encountered during power-on, the PS/2
  117.            power-on self test (POST) program generates an error message and goes
  118.            to the reference partition to load the configuration program.
  119.            Power-on Error Detect intercepts the post error, checks the system
  120.            for a LAN card, and loads the LAN driver.  Power-on Error Detect then
  121.            sends the error message plus data it has gathered about the system
  122.            configuration before the system was last powered off, system
  123.            configuration at the time of the error, and the name of the system.
  124.                   Power-on Error Detect notifies technical personnel of failures
  125.            and provides them with all the information they need to diagnose the
  126.            problem, as soon as power is applied to the failing machine.
  127.            SNMP ALERTING:  NetFinity Version 2.0 converts NetFinity alerts to
  128.            SNMP alerts in real time.  This allows SNMP-based platforms to
  129.            benefit from NetFinity's extensive monitoring capabilities.
  130.            MULTIMEDIA SUPPORT:  NetFinity Version 2.0 can play a waveform on
  131.            multimedia-based systems when an alert has been detected, enabling
  132.            users to identify specific alerts by sound.
  133.            ALERT PAGER SUPPORT:  NetFinity Version 2.0 allows managing systems
  134.            with a modem to dial a pager when an alert is received.  This ensures
  135.            that the LAN administrator can be informed of alerts as they occur.
  136.            PCI SUPPORT:  NetFinity Version 2.0 now has the capability to detect
  137.            and display information about the types and settings of PCI devices
  138.            installed in systems with a PCI bus.
  139.                   IBM NetFinity provides local and remote hardware system
  140.            management functions with the emphasis on hardware.  In addition to
  141.            those previously covered, the NetFinity Version 2.0 hardware
  142.            management functions are:
  143.            o   Exploitation of system partitions (PS/2 Systems)
  144.            o   Exploitation of C2 security
  145.            o   Exploitation of Micro Channel, EISA, and PCMCIA buses

  175.            subsystems, and more.
  176.            CENTRALIZED CONTROL IMPROVEMENTS
  177.            A system administrator using NetFinity has the ability to perform key
  178.            management functions on remote workstations.  The program has
  179.            built-in features to expand with the growth of a customer's network
  180.            while maintaining the centralized controls.
  181.            UPGRADEABILITY IMPROVEMENTS
  182.            The architecture of NetFinity allows itself to be expanded with new
  183.            add-on services as system management needs are identified.
  184.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  185.            NetFinity is positioned as a low-cost, highly flexible hardware
  186.            management program with general system management functions.
  187.            NetFinity provides a full set of easy-to-use hardware management
  188.            services.  Its management services make it attractive to a broad
  189.            range of LAN environments.  NetFinity is primarily an attended
  190.            solution to allow LAN administrators to view, initiate, and exploit
  191.            management services.
  192.                   NetFinity's product set complements and enhances both LAN
  193.            NetView and LMU/2.  NetFinity can be used with LAN NetView to augment
  194.            its applications with advanced hardware management functions.
  195.            NetFinity can be used with LMU/2 as a complementary product to
  196.            provide hardware management services.

  388.            cannot coincide with the programming availability dates noted in
  389.            other sections of this document.
  390.                   The IBM Education Fulfillment Center is the order processing
  391.            location for selected personal computers and related hardware and
  392.            software for eligible education end users.
  393.            PROGRAM UPGRADE
  394.                   The program package upgrade option allows currently licensed
  395.            users of NetFinity Manager Version 1.1 and NetFinity Services
  396.            Version 1.1 to obtain the new function for a program upgrade charge.
  397.            The program upgrade to NetFinity Manager Version 2.0 for owners of
  398.            NetFinity Manager Version 1.1 and NetFinity Services Version 2.0 for
  399.            owners of NetFinity Services Version 1.1 is available after
  400.            July 18, 1994.  Orders will be accepted after July 18, 1994.  These
  401.            upgrades will be available through IBM Authorized Personal Computer
  402.            Dealers and Industry Remarketers -- Personal Computers certified to
  403.            market IBM Authorized Advanced Products.  The remarketer will require
  404.            a Proof of License for each upgrade ordered.  The original Proof of
  405.            License is the colored front cover page (inside the hard binder) or
  406.            the separate Proof of License page in the program package as
  407.            identified by IBM to the remarketer.
  408.                   Customers can also order upgrades through the local IBM office
  409.            using the IBM Personal Computer/System Program IBM US Upgrade and
  410.            Certification Order Form included with this announcement.
  411.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  412.            LICENSING:  The programs in this announcement are licensed under the
  413.            terms and conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement.  A copy of
  414.            the agreement is included in the program package.
  415.            ADDITIONAL LICENSE:  The IBM Customer Agreement (ICA) must be in
  416.            effect or the Proof of Additional License certificate must be
  417.            acquired.
  418.            LIMITED WARRANTY:
