TITLE IBM NETWARE CLIENT FOR OS/2 2.1 AND LANALYZER FOR WINDOWS 2.1
ABSTRACT NetWare** Client for OS/2 (R) 2.1 provides seamless integration of
OS/2 workstations into NetWare networks. An OS/2 workstation running
the NetWare Client for OS/2 gives users transparent access to NetWare
resources such as file, print, database and communication services.
The client enables one OS/2 workstation to concurrently access
multiple servers. For example, the user can access information from
a NetWare file server and simultaneously query an OS/2 database.
The NetWare Client for OS/2 gives consistent, easy access to
NetWare 2.x, NetWare 3.x, and NetWare 4.x services and resources
because the same set of Universal Client Architecture modules are
used in other NetWare clients. The client can be used with any
NetWare network: NetWare 2.x, NetWare 3.x and NetWare 4.x, NetWare
for UNIX**, and NetWare for OS/2. It supports all NetWare APIs and
provides connectivity to NetWare servers through IPX, to
OS/2 application servers through NetBIOS and Names Pipes, and to
UNIX-based servers through TCP/IP. Accessing the network is easy
using the Presentation Manager (R) workstation tools and the
LAN-aware Workplace Shell (R) shell in OS/2.x. This shell enables
OS/2 workstations to act as non-dedicated print servers (through its
remote printer capability) and it supports as many as 1,000
simultaneous Names Pipes connections.
LANalyzer for Windows (1) 2.1 is the latest version of NetWare
LANalyzer for Windows, the network analysis software. The name has
been changed deleting the word "NetWare." With this new release,
LANalyzer for Windows 2.1 can provide affordable network
troubleshooting and optimization capabilities for NFS and SNA
networks, in addition to NetWare, AppleTalk**, and TCP/IP networks,
which have been previously supported. This offers users with UNIX
and IBM-based systems the option for a network analyzer that is less
costly and easier to use than those previously available for those
environments.
LANalyzer for Windows 2.1 supports most enterprise networks directly
including NetWare, TCP/IP, AppleTalk, NFS, and SNA-based networks,
LANalyzer for Windows 2.1 is also an open system, so users who need
support for other protocols, like Vines, DECnet, or LAN Manager can
purchase a third-party product that adds that support.
LANalyzer for Windows 2.1 is based on ODI drivers, which means it is
not limited to specific hardware platforms. In addition to
supporting Ethernet and token-ring networks, the new release also
supports the forthcoming 100MB Ethernet hardware.
Extended registration time -- effective immediately, customers who
purchase and register NetWare 4.01 from IBM by December 31, 1994,
will automatically receive all updates and upgrades to the
NetWare 4.01 from IBM, free of charge until March 31, 1995.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
ACCESS TO ENTERPRISE DATA
The NetWare Client for OS/2 2.1 enables the customer to have seamless
integration of OS/2 workstations into NetWare networks. Through this
product the user has transparent access to NetWare resources such as
file, print, database, and communication services. The client
enables one OS2 workstation to concurrently access multiple servers.
IS OPERATIONS PRODUCTIVITY
LANalyzer for Windows 2.1 offers the user an affordable software
application for monitoring, analyzing and troubleshooting Ethernet,
token-ring and the forthcoming 100MB Ethernet hardware networks.
LANalyzer offers the user network management training to assist in
the education of the user's staff.
INTER-OPERABILITY IMPROVEMENTS: NetWare Client for OS/2 2.1 gives
consistent, easy access to NetWare 2.x, NetWare 3.x, and NetWare 4.x
services and resources by using the same set of Universal Client
Architecture modules as are used in other NetWare clients. LANalyzer
for Windows 2.1 now provides affordable network troubleshooting and
optimization capabilities for NFS and SNA networks in addition to the
NetWare, AppleTalk, and TCP/IP networks it had previously supported.
ADDITIONAL PRODUCT INFORMATION
The NetWare Client for OS/2 2.1 contains several enhancements over
previous versions. DOS/Windows support now includes a revised
architecture of the Global environment, support for NetWare Directory
Services in the VMBOOT session, and support for enhanced mode Windows
applications. In addition, electronic documentation is provided in
OS/2 Standard format, set-up of OS/2 LAN Server requester coexistence
is automatic, and remote-boot capability is supported.
EXTENDED REGISTRATION TIME
An extension date was announced on March 29, 1994, in Software
Announcement 294-146, and that date is now being extended. Customers
who have already registered their NetWare 4.0 will also receive free
updates. Customers must register their product, using the
registration card provided with the product, to be eligible to
receive these enhancements.
Updates provided will be:
o Periodic updates to the NetWare 4.x operating system.
o Utilities that enable customers to easily build their NetWare
Directory Services directory trees using either a corporate
top-down approach or a departmental bottoms-up approach. Network
administrators can merge diverse trees into a single tree, cut
and paste branches of a tree, and rename directory container
objects.
o Tools that more tightly integrate NetWare 3.x with NetWare 4.x.
These bindery synchronization tools enable network administrators
to fully manage a mixed NetWare 3.x and NetWare 4.x environment
using NetWare 4.x administration utilities.
