  5. ABSTRACT          IBM Education LAN and Tools (EdLAN) 386 Version 1.10 is a

  10.            processors, spreadsheets and other tools installed on the network and

  14.            software includes IBM Classroom LAN Administration System
  15.            Version 1.50 and NetWare** 3.12 from IBM.

  25.            for DOS, Express Publisher, LinkWay Live!, Excelsior grade2,
  26.            Excelsior quiz2, and LANSchool in the same versions as are included
  27.            in EdLAN 386 1.10, and is licensed for use on a local area network by
  28.            a maximum of 50 machines at any one time, except for LANSchool.
  29.            LANSchool is limited to use on a single server machine with no limit
  30.            on the number of users.  As an upgrade offering, EdLAN Tool Pack 1.10
  31.            can be installed on a SchoolView (TM) Version 1.00 server and on an
  32.            IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.41, or higher,
  33.            server (with NetWare 2.2, 3.11 or 3.12).
  34.                   IBM Education LAN and Tools (EdLAN) 386 Version 1.10 and EdLAN
  35.            Tool Pack Version 1.10 are available only to educational institutions
  36.            qualifying for IBM's National Education License Fees (NELF).  EdLAN
  37.            386 Version 1.10 is an enhancement to the original IBM Education LAN
  38.            and Tools 386 offering.  Several products have been replaced with
  39.            updated versions containing new features.  Refer to Software

  97.            The 100-User version allows access to IBM Classroom LAN
  98.            Administration System Version 1.50 and to NetWare 3.12 from IBM by a
  99.            maximum of 100 workstations concurrently.  Use of each of the
  100.            productivity tool applications included in EdLAN 386 1.10, in either
  101.            the 50- or 100-User version, is limited by its license terms to a
  102.            maximum of 50 machines at any one time (except for LANSchool, which
  103.            is limited to use on a single server machine with no limit on the
  104.            number of users).  Refer to the SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL

  141.                   EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 provides a user interface and network
  142.            access in classrooms and offices.  Students, teachers,
  143.            administrators, and office personnel can launch programs and obtain
  144.            data appropriate to their work.
  145.                   EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10 is offered as a base offering and
  146.            an upgrade offering.  EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10 can be installed
  147.            on:
  148.            o   An IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.41, or

  151.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION

  160.            Version 1.11, 1.20, 1.30, and 1.31 can obtain the upgrade to IBM
  161.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50, announced
  162.            April 5, 1994, upgrade to NetWare 2.2, or higher (if needed), and
  163.            also obtain the EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10.
  164.            SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
  165.            EdLAN 386 1.10 will be delivered on CD-ROM and 1.44MB diskettes.  A
  166.            CD-ROM drive will be required for installation.  NetWare 3.12 from
  167.            IBM will also be shipped on CD-ROM.
  168.                   The security features of EdLAN 386 1.10 are provided to
  169.            control access to the data and programs stored on the network server.
  170.            EdLAN 386 1.10 allows the sharing of resources such as printers.
  171.            Installation of applications and control of access by network user
  172.            groups such as students, teachers and office personnel, is
  173.            simplified.
  174.                   EdLAN 386 1.10 is designed to run on a local area network
  175.            distributed throughout the school building or in laboratories.  This
  176.            puts the instructional use of the network under the direction of the
  177.            classroom teacher and makes EdLAN 386 1.10 simultaneously available
  178.            to many students.  This virtually eliminates the need for students to
  179.            handle diskettes.
  180.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  181.            IBM Education LAN and Tools 386 Version 1.10 is a network software
  182.            package offering.  It is designed to help manage computer networks in
  183.            schools.  It simplifies installation of applications on the network,
  184.            and it provides security features to control programs and data.
  185.                   EdLAN 386 1.10 can be used in a local area network setting at
  186.            any level -- elementary, middle, high school, vocational school or
  187.            college.  It can be used to manage courseware delivery to students
  188.            and to administer programs for teachers and office staff.  The
  189.            productivity tools included in the package help all network users
  190.            perform word processing and data processing tasks more efficiently.
  191. CUSTINFO   EDUCATION SUPPORT
  192.                   Customers may attend the Classroom Network Implementation
  193.            class in Atlanta, Georgia.  This class is designed for district
  194.            coordinators and is fee-based.

  197. TECHINFO   TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  198.            HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:  EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 is installed on a
  199.            network server machine.  This server must have a 386 processor, or
  200.            higher.
  201.                   System requirements for NetWork Servers:
  202.            o   Personal System/2 (R) Models 56SLC, 56SLC2, 56SX, 57SLC, 57SX,
  203.                65, 70, 76, 77, 80, 85, 90, 90SX, 95, 95SX, 95XP, EduQuest Thirty
  204.                or Thirty-cs
  205.            o   8MB of memory (minimum); 16MB (recommended)
  206.            o   NetWare-compatible IBM IDE, ESDI or SCSI hard drive controller
  207.            o   CD-ROM drive and 3.5-inch high-density diskette drive for
  208.                installation of NetWare 3.12 from IBM
  209.            o   Monochrome or color display and appropriate adapter
  210.            o   DOS Version 3.30, or later
  211.            o   Network adapter (baseband, broadband, Ethernet**, or token ring).
  212.            NOTE: Baseband adapters should not be used with PS/2 (R) Models 85
  213.            and 95.
  214.            NOTE: NetWare 3.12 from IBM has included in it a sufficient subset of
  215.            Novell's DR-DOS for system startup and NetWare installation unless
  216.            there are non-DOS partitions to be removed.  Use of DR-DOS for this
  217.            purpose is supported and documented in the IBM Classroom LAN
  218.            Administration System 1.50 installation guide.  This fulfills the
  219.            server requirement for a DOS license, but the server must have
  220.            installed a licensed copy of each DOS version used by any workstation
  221.            on the LAN.
  222.                   Requirements for workstations:
  223.            o   EduQuest Thirty, Forty, Fifty, Thirty-cs,  Fifty-cs and all IBM
  224.                Personal System/2 models are supported; PS/ValuePoint (TM)
  225.                Models 325T, 425SX, 433DX, or 466DX2
  226.            o   Minimum 640KB of memory
  227.            o   Color display and appropriate adapter (follow individual
  228.                courseware/tool requirements for displays)
  229.            o   Mouse is optional, but recommended
  230.            o   A CD-ROM drive and 3.5-inch high-density diskette drive on at
  231.                least one workstation for installation
  232.            o   A printer attached to at least one workstation is recommended
  233.            o   Network adapter card
  234.            o   A license for DOS 3.30, or later, is required for each
  235.                workstation.
  236.            SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:  A separate DOS license is required for the
  237.            server and for each workstation on the LAN.
  238.            NOTE: NetWare 3.12 from IBM includes a sufficient subset of Novell's
  239.            DR-DOS for system startup and NetWare installation unless there are
  240.            non-DOS partitions to be removed.  Use of DR-DOS for this purpose is
  241.            supported and documented in the IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  242.            System 1.50 installation guide.  This fulfills the server requirement
  243.            for a DOS license, but the server must have installed a licensed copy
  244.            of each DOS version used by any workstation on the LAN.
  245.                   When installed, EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 takes up 61MB on the
  246.            server's hard file.  (This includes the space required for NetWare
  247.            3.12 from IBM.)
  248.                   When installed, NetWare 3.12 from IBM takes up 22MB on the
  249.            server's hard file.
  250.                   When installed, EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10 takes up 27MB on
  251.            the server's hard file.
  252.            EDLAN TOOL PACK VERSION 1.10 REQUIREMENTS:  For EdLAN Tool Pack
  253.            Version 1.10, one of the following is required:
  254.            o   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.41, or higher,
  255.                and NetWare 2.2, 3.11 or 3.21
  256.            o   EdLAN Version 1.10
  257.            o   EdLAN 386 Version 1.00
  258.            o   SchoolView Version 1.00.
  259.                   The server requirements for the EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10
  260.            are satisfied by any machine meeting the EdLAN Version 1.10, EdLAN
  261.            386 Version 1.00, or SchoolView Version 1.00 server hardware
  262.            requirements.
  263.                   The workstation requirements for EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10
  264.            are the same as for EdLAN 386 Version 1.10.
  265.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  266.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  The customer must provide the minimum
  267.            hardware and software environment to operate EdLAN 386 Version  1.10,
  268.            to install and run application programs, and to perform backup
  269.            procedures.
  270.            K-12 PERSONAL COMPUTER INSTALLATION SERVICES (PCIS):  K-12 Personal
  271.            Computer Installation Services (PCIS) to install these products is
  272.            available to K-12 institutions for a fee.  Contact your EduQuest
  273.            representative for additional information.
  274.            PACKAGING:  The packaging for EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 and its upgrades

  300.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  301.                   EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 and IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  302.            System Version 1.50 make use of the security and auditability
  303.            features available in NetWare 3.12 from IBM in addition to their own
  304.            built-in security features.  The system administrator can access the
  305.            complete system; the teachers can access their own files and their
  306.            own students' files; the students can access only their own files.
  307.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
  308.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
  309.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  310.            facilities.
  311.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 controls
  312.            the maximum number of machines in a LAN that may be concurrently
  313.            signed on to each individual application program installed on the
  314.            same server machine as, and running under the control of, the IBM
  315.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 program.  The System
  316.            Administrator can "set" the maximum number of concurrently signed on
  317.            machines, individually for each application program.
  318.                   It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the
  319.            customer has acquired the appropriate number of licenses for each
  320.            application program to authorize the "maximum number" the customer
  321.            "sets" for that application program.
  322.                   In the case of IBM courseware programs and other IBM programs
  323.            offered and acquired under a LAN pack license, each LAN pack license
  324.            for such a program authorizes concurrent use of the program by up to
  325.            a specified number of machines, including the server machine, in a
  326.            LAN.  The applicable maximum is specified in the program's License
  327.            Information.  The maximum number to be "set" for an IBM licensed
  328.            program would be the applicable LAN pack license maximum, unless the
  329.            customer acquires a second LAN pack license for that program for use
  330.            on that LAN; then the "setting" should be twice the applicable
  331.            maximum for one LAN pack license.  For IBM programs not offered, or
  332.            not acquired, under a LAN pack license, the maximum number to be
  333.            "set" must not exceed the number of individual licenses of each
  334.            program which the customer has acquired for use on machines in that
  335.            LAN.
  336.                   In the case of non-IBM programs, the customer may use this
  337.            "maximum number" control capability of IBM Classroom LAN
  338.            Administration System Version 1.50 to ensure that the customer
  339.            adheres to similar restrictions contained in non-IBM
  340.            supplier/publisher license agreements.
  341. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  342.                   Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.  First shipment
  343.            of customer orders begins May 31, 1994.  Customers may request an
  344.            arrival date on or after June 7, 1994.
  345.                   For each product ordered, specify the appropriate program
  346.            name, part number, and quantity.
  347.                   K-12 institution orders may be submitted to the local EduQuest
  348.            IBM representative until June 30, 1994.  Thereafter, orders must be
  349.            placed with K-12 Education Remarketers at prices established by the
  350.            remarketer.

  400.            PROGRAM UPGRADE:  The program package upgrade option allows currently
  401.            licensed users of EdLAN Versions 1.00/1.01, 1.10 and EdLAN 386
  402.            Version 1.00 to obtain the new EdLAN 386 Version 1.10 or the EdLAN
  403.            Tool Pack Version 1.10 for a program upgrade charge.  These program
  404.            upgrades will be available May 31, 1994.  Orders will be accepted
  405.            now.
  406.                   These upgrades will be available through K-12 Education
  407.            Remarketers.
  408.                   The remarketer will require a Proof of License for each
  409.            upgrade ordered.  The original Proof of License is the inside front
  410.            cover of the installation guide from the program being upgraded.
  411.                   Until June 30, 1994, customers may also order upgrades through
  412.            the EduQuest branch office using the IBM Personal Computer/System
  413.            Program US Upgrade and Certification Order Form.
  414.                   Licensed users of IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  415.            Version 1.40, and higher, and NetWare 2.2, 3.11 or 3.12 can obtain
  416.            the EdLAN Tool Pack Version 1.10 and have the convenience of the
  417.            EdLAN productivity tools.
  418.                   Licensed users of IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  419.            Version 1.11, 1.20, 1.30 and 1.31 can obtain the upgrade to IBM
  420.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50, announced
  421.            April 5, 1994, upgrade to NetWare 2.2, or later (if needed), and also
