  496.            o   Applications using the published x.25 application program
  497.                interface of the IBM Communications Manager/2 (CM/2) are
  498.                compatible with X.25 Xpander.  However, CM/2 itself is not
  499.                compatible.
  500.            o   RouteXpander/2 Version 2 users who also requires X.25 support
  501.                must use RouteXpander X.25 Support Program.  In this
  502.                configuration, the RouteXpander/2 Version 2 and its X.25 Support
  503.                Program can only interoperate with RouteXpander/2 Version 2 and
  504.                X.25 Support Program or any other RFC 1356-compliant products.
  505.            LIMITATIONS:  The limitations of RouteXpander/2 include:
  506.            o   Both RouteXpander/2 Version 1.0.1 and RouteXpander/2 Version 2
  507.                support a maximum of 200 frame relay logical links (Data Link
  508.                Connection Identifier "DLCIs") per each physical frame relay
  509.                attachment
  510.            o   RouteXpander/2 Version 2 with its X.25 Support Program supports a
  511.                maximum of 200 virtual circuits/links.
  512.            o   RouteXpander/2 Version 1.0.1 supports two ports for bridging and
  513.                routing.  These bridging ports can be configured to be source
  514.                route bridging ports or transparent bridging ports.  Bridging
  515.                from Token-Ring LAN to Ethernet LAN is not supported.  However,
  516.                traffic can be routed between unlike LANs.
  517.            o   The dual port that RouteXpander/2 Version 1.0.1 supports can be
  518.                one LAN port, either Token-Ring or Ethernet, and one WAN port,
  519.                which can be point-to-point or frame relay.  RouteXpander/2
  520.                Version 1.0.1 can also be configured to have two LAN ports.
  521.            o   RouteXpander Multiport Support/2 is optimized to support eight
  522.                64KB lines.  A T1/E1 line speed is supported for performance
  523.                critical applications using large frame sizes.
  524.            o   The RouteXpander/2 Version 2 base product supports two ports for
  525.                bridging and routing.  Typically this will be one Token-Ring
  526.                port, and one wide area network port, whether frame relay, or
  527.                point-to-point.  With the RouteXpander Multiport Support/2, this
  528.                support is increased to the following:
  529.                -   Two Token-Ring LANs
  530.                -   Eight point-to-point connections
  531.                -   One X.25 port (with the X.25 Support Program)
  532.                -   Two Frame relay
  533.                       However, for bridging, the total number of LAN and WAN
  534.                ports combined can not exceed nine.  Additional ports that
  535.                support routing only (for example, TCP/IP over Ethernet) are not
  536.                included in this bridging port limitation.
  537.            o   RouteXpander/2 Version 2 uses other OS/2 program products such as
  538.                OS/2 Communications Manager and TCP/IP for OS/2 to route
  539.                SNA/APPN, and TCP/IP traffic.  Due to the limitations of these
  540.                co-resident software products, RouteXpander/2 Version 2 can only
  541.                route SNA over a maximum of 2 ports, and TCP/IP over a maximum of
  542.                four ports.  IPX routing does not require other OS/2 software,
  543.                and can be routed over two ports with RouteXpander/2 Version 2
  544.                base product and over nine ports with Multiport Support Program.
  545.            o   Only one copy of RouteXpander/2 Version 2 running on an OS/2
  546.                workstation is supported.
  547.            o   LAN Bridge Server function, supported by RouteXpander LNM
  548.                Support/2, does not support the path trace function.
  549.            o   When Simple Network Management Protocol is used as RouteXpander/2
  550.                Version 2's management tool, the SNMP MIBS for Ring Error Monitor
  551.                (REM), Configuration Report Server (CRS) and Ring Parameter
  552.                Server (RPS) are not supported.
  553.                       For X.25 support, RouteXpander X.25 Support/2 must be used
  554.                with RouteXpander/2 Version 2.  RouteXpander X.25 Support/2,
  555.                operating under RouteXpander/2 Version 2, supports a maximum of
  556.                200 virtual circuits.
  557.                   The limitations of X.25 Xpander/2 include:
  558.            o   X.25 Xpander/2 supports a maximum of 32 physical links
  559.            o   X.25 Xpander/2 with its X.25 feature supports a maximum of 4,000
  560.                virtual circuits per physical link
  561.            o   X.25 Xpander/2 application program interface supports a maximum
  562.                of 3,000 connections (virtual circuits).
  563.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  System performance depends on a variety
  564.            of system unit and communication load factors.  These include the
  565.            type and speed of the system unit processor and the amount of
  566.            processing by the communications products.  RouteXpander/2 Version 2
  567.            and X.25 Xpander/2 reside in the system unit and can affect the
  568.            performance of other applications operating in the workstation.
  569.            Their processing requirements should be included in capacity planning
  570.            for additional communications, estimated traffic volumes, and the
  571.            availability of common carrier services.  Additional performance
  572.            information will be provided at availability.
