TITLE IBM SAA IMAGEPLUS CAPTURE FACILITY/2 VERSION 1.1.1
ABSTRACT IBM SAA (R) ImagePlus (R) Capture Facility/2 (ICPF), a local
area network (LAN)-based client/server extension which supports
high-volume document capture (refer to IBM Software Announcement
292-603, dated October 20, 1992), will be enhanced to provide a
document capture alternative for VisualInfo.
VisualInfo (TM) is the first implementation of the ImagePlus
2000 (IP 2000) Vision: IBM's vision for advanced document management,
today and in the future. Business documents are stored in library
servers running on OS/2 (R) and/or MVS. For further information
about VisualInfo, refer to IBM Software Announcements 294-055,
294-057, and 294-056, dated February 15, 1994.
ICPF will work with IBM SAA ImagePlus Intelligent Forms
Facility/2 (IPFO), to provide Intelligent Forms Processing (IFP) and
optical character recognition (OCR) for automatic capture of indexing
and/or limited line-of-business (LOB) data for VisualInfo. ICPF will
also support IBM SAA ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 (IWPM/2) barcode
recognition for automatic capture of indexing data. These functions
greatly increase user productivity by allowing customers the choice
of selecting the most appropriate document capture technique for
their business process.
Additionally, ICPF is one of a family of products produced by
the IBM ImagePlus Systems Development organization that has been
assessed and registered by SGS Yarsley International Certification
Services Limited as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001/EN 29001/BS
5750 Pt 1.

IN BRIEF . . .
IBM SAA IMAGEPLUS CAPTURE FACILITY/2 VERSION 1.1.1
o Offers an integrated high volume document capture facility for
both VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA (TM).
o Supports a wide variety of input devices, single-feed scanners,
high-speed scanners and other input devices supported by IBM SAA
ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 Version 1.2.
o Allows batches of documents to be temporarily stored on the file
server for later transmission to the VisualInfo or ImagePlus
MVS/ESA.
o Supports IBM SAA ImagePlus Intelligent Forms Facility/2 (IPFO)
which uses OCR technology to obtain indexing and/or LOB data.
o Supports ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 barcode recognition for
automatic capture of indexing information.
o Provides a manual indexing function when ICPF is used with
VisualInfo.
PRODNO 5621-204
OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
END-USER PRODUCTIVITY -- IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY: Since ICPF
provides several document capture options, customers can now choose
the most efficient technique for their specific business.
The automatic capture of index information and/or LOB data
using optical character recognition and bar code is supported for
both VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA. The capabilities allow easier
indexing of documents and allow the documents to be available for
processing sooner.
Options for manual indexing for ImagePlus MVS/ESA system
include: index before scan, simultaneous index and scan, and scan
before index.
Auditability is enhanced because the user has the ability to
trace an image back to its source document.
INVESTMENT PROTECTION -- ASSET PROTECTION: ImagePlus MVS/ESA
customers who choose to coexist/migrate with VisualInfo, can use ICPF
with their VisualInfo system.
When ICPF is used with ImagePlus MVS/ESA, image enabled
line-of-business applications can extend their function to include
ICPF through the use of new ICPF indexing workstation application
program interfaces (APIs). The ImagePlus MVS/ESA customer installed
scanners and OS/2 workstations can be used to implement the new
scanning and indexing options provided by ICPF.
SYSTEM MANAGEMENT -- AUDITABILITY IMPROVEMENTS: ICPF allows
documents to be temporarily stored on the file server. Customers
have the flexibility of optimizing traffic on their network by
controlling when the documents are sent to MVS or VisualInfo. In
addition, ICPF offers the capability to capture and collect documents
without a connection to VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA. This means
that documents can be scanned during the off shift, stored on the
file server and indexed during the primary shift.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
ICPF should be positioned as a high-volume document capture
subsystem for VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS (SINGLE BYTE)
ICPF INDEXING FEATURE (USE WHEN CONFIGURED WITH IMAGEPLUS MVS/ESA)
The minimum processor is any which supports OS/2 2.1 and IWPM/2
Version 1.2.1 which has at least 10 megabytes (10MB) of free storage
on its hard disk after the installation of OS/2, IWPM/2
Version 1.2.1, and an allocation of a minimum 23MB of free space on
the drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file.
The recommended processor for capacity and performance considerations
is as follows:
o IBM PS/2 (R) Models 56 SLC and above having a CPU speed of at
least 20 MHz.
MEMORY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 12MB PS/2 memory is required to run
OS/2, IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
DISK REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 80MB hard disk is required to run OS/2,
IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
ICPF FILE SERVER
In order to use the ICPF Indexing Feature, the ICPF File Server must
be attached.
The minimum processor is a Model 80 or above which supports
OS/2 2.1 and IWPM/2 Version 1.2.1 and has at least 10MB of free
storage on its hard disk after the installation of OS/2, IWPM/2
Version 1.2.1, an allocation of a minimum of 23MB of free space on
the drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file,
and an allocation of 50,000 bytes per image stored at the ICPF File
Server. The recommended processor for capacity and performance
considerations is as follows:
o IBM PS/2 Model 95, 486, 33 MHz and above.
MEMORY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 12MB PS/2 memory is required to run
OS/2 and the server workstation programs. It is recommended that the
server be configured with as much memory as possible (that is, 32MB).
DISK REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 160MB hard disk is required to run
OS/2 and the server workstation programs. Depending on the required
volumes, additional hard disks may be required. A 320MB drive could
hold somewhere in the range of 5000 to 6400 pages, assuming 50,000
bytes per page.
The ICPF File Server is also used for the ICPF interface to
VisualInfo. The recommended processor for capacity and performance
for ICPF communicating with a VisualInfo library and object server is
as follows:
o IBM PS/2 Server 486 and above having a CPU speed of at least 33
MHz. IBM PS/2 9585 or 9595 models offer several options.
MEMORY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 32MB PS/2 memory is required to run
OS/2 2.1 Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1.2.1, DB2/2
(TM) 1.0, LAN Server 3.0 Entry level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2, and
ICPF Version 1.1.1.
DISK REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 540MB hard disk is required to run
OS/2 2.1, Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1.2.1, DB2/2
Version 1.0, LAN Server 3.0 Entry level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2,
and ICPF Version 1.1.1. Depending on required volumes, additional
disk capacity may be required. Data recovery scenarios require a
second hard disk on the server.
