  4. ABSTRACT          IBM SAA (R) ImagePlus (R) Capture Facility/2 (ICPF), a local
  5.            area network (LAN)-based client/server extension which supports
  6.            high-volume document capture (refer to IBM Software Announcement
  7.            292-603, dated October 20, 1992), will be enhanced to provide a
  8.            document capture alternative for VisualInfo.
  9.                   VisualInfo (TM) is the first implementation of the ImagePlus
  10.            2000 (IP 2000) Vision: IBM's vision for advanced document management,
  11.            today and in the future.  Business documents are stored in library
  12.            servers running on OS/2 (R) and/or MVS.  For further information
  13.            about VisualInfo, refer to IBM Software Announcements 294-055,
  14.            294-057, and 294-056, dated February 15, 1994.
  15.                   ICPF will work with IBM SAA ImagePlus Intelligent Forms
  16.            Facility/2 (IPFO), to provide Intelligent Forms Processing (IFP) and
  17.            optical character recognition (OCR) for automatic capture of indexing
  18.            and/or limited line-of-business (LOB) data for VisualInfo.  ICPF will
  19.            also support IBM SAA ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 (IWPM/2) barcode
  20.            recognition for automatic capture of indexing data.  These functions
  21.            greatly increase user productivity by allowing customers the choice
  22.            of selecting the most appropriate document capture technique for
  23.            their business process.
  24.                   Additionally, ICPF is one of a family of products produced by
  25.            the IBM ImagePlus Systems Development organization that has been
  26.            assessed and registered by SGS Yarsley International Certification
  27.            Services Limited as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001/EN 29001/BS
  28.            5750 Pt 1.

  51. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  52.            END-USER PRODUCTIVITY -- IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  Since ICPF
  53.            provides several document capture options, customers can now choose
  54.            the most efficient technique for their specific business.
  55.                   The automatic capture of index information and/or LOB data
  56.            using optical character recognition and bar code is supported for
  57.            both VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA.  The capabilities allow easier
  58.            indexing of documents and allow the documents to be available for
  59.            processing sooner.
  60.                   Options for manual indexing for ImagePlus MVS/ESA system
  61.            include: index before scan, simultaneous index and scan, and scan
  62.            before index.
  63.                   Auditability is enhanced because the user has the ability to
  64.            trace an image back to its source document.
  65.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION -- ASSET PROTECTION:  ImagePlus MVS/ESA
  66.            customers who choose to coexist/migrate with VisualInfo, can use ICPF
  67.            with their VisualInfo system.
  68.                   When ICPF is used with ImagePlus MVS/ESA, image enabled
  69.            line-of-business applications can extend their function to include
  70.            ICPF through the use of new ICPF indexing workstation application
  71.            program interfaces (APIs).  The ImagePlus MVS/ESA customer installed
  72.            scanners and OS/2 workstations can be used to implement the new
  73.            scanning and indexing options provided by ICPF.
  74.            SYSTEM MANAGEMENT -- AUDITABILITY IMPROVEMENTS:  ICPF allows
  75.            documents to be temporarily stored on the file server.  Customers
  76.            have the flexibility of optimizing traffic on their network by
  77.            controlling when the documents are sent to MVS or VisualInfo.  In
  78.            addition, ICPF offers the capability to capture and collect documents
  79.            without a connection to VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA.  This means
  80.            that documents can be scanned during the off shift, stored on the
  81.            file server and indexed during the primary shift.
  82.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  83.                   ICPF should be positioned as a high-volume document capture
  84.            subsystem for VisualInfo or ImagePlus MVS/ESA.

  107.            HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS (SINGLE BYTE)
  108.            ICPF INDEXING FEATURE (USE WHEN CONFIGURED WITH IMAGEPLUS MVS/ESA)
  109.            The minimum processor is any which supports OS/2 2.1 and IWPM/2
  110.            Version 1.2.1 which has at least 10 megabytes (10MB) of free storage
  111.            on its hard disk after the installation of OS/2, IWPM/2
  112.            Version 1.2.1, and an allocation of a minimum 23MB of free space on
  113.            the drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file.
  114.            The recommended processor for capacity and performance considerations
  115.            is as follows:
  116.            o   IBM PS/2 (R) Models 56 SLC and above having a CPU speed of at
  117.                least 20 MHz.
  118.            MEMORY REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 12MB PS/2 memory is required to run
  119.            OS/2, IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
  120.            DISK REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 80MB hard disk is required to run OS/2,
  121.            IWPM/2, and the ICPF Indexing Feature programs.
  122.            ICPF FILE SERVER
  123.            In order to use the ICPF Indexing Feature, the ICPF File Server must
  124.            be attached.
  125.                   The minimum processor is a Model 80 or above which supports
  126.            OS/2 2.1 and IWPM/2 Version 1.2.1 and has at least 10MB of free
  127.            storage on its hard disk after the installation of OS/2, IWPM/2
  128.            Version 1.2.1, an allocation of a minimum of 23MB of free space on
  129.            the drive specified in the SWAPPATH command in the CONFIG.SYS file,
  130.            and an allocation of 50,000 bytes per image stored at the ICPF File
  131.            Server.  The recommended processor for capacity and performance
  132.            considerations is as follows:
  133.            o   IBM PS/2 Model 95, 486, 33 MHz and above.
  134.            MEMORY REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 12MB PS/2 memory is required to run
  135.            OS/2 and the server workstation programs.  It is recommended that the
  136.            server be configured with as much memory as possible (that is, 32MB).
  137.            DISK REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 160MB hard disk is required to run
  138.            OS/2 and the server workstation programs.  Depending on the required
  139.            volumes, additional hard disks may be required.  A 320MB drive could
  140.            hold somewhere in the range of 5000 to 6400 pages, assuming 50,000
  141.            bytes per page.
  142.                   The ICPF File Server is also used for the ICPF interface to
  143.            VisualInfo.  The recommended processor for capacity and performance
  144.            for ICPF communicating with a VisualInfo library and object server is
  145.            as follows:
  146.            o   IBM PS/2 Server 486 and above having a CPU speed of at least 33
  147.                MHz.  IBM PS/2 9585 or 9595 models offer several options.
  148.            MEMORY REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 32MB PS/2 memory is required to run
  149.            OS/2 2.1 Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1.2.1, DB2/2
  150.            (TM) 1.0, LAN Server 3.0 Entry level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2, and
  151.            ICPF Version 1.1.1.
  152.            DISK REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum 540MB hard disk is required to run
  153.            OS/2 2.1, Communications Manager/2 Version 1.1, IWPM/2 1.2.1, DB2/2
  154.            Version 1.0, LAN Server 3.0 Entry level, VisualInfo Client for OS/2,
  155.            and ICPF Version 1.1.1.  Depending on required volumes, additional
  156.            disk capacity may be required.  Data recovery scenarios require a
  157.            second hard disk on the server.
  158.            DISPLAY SUPPORT FOR ICPF INDEXING FEATURE AND ICPF FILE SERVER
  159.            The ICPF File Server and ICPF Indexing Feature require high
  160.            resolution displays for the simultaneous display of an image and the
  161.            application program.  If the file server is not used for image
  162.            display, than a high resolution display is not required.  For a
  163.            single head configuration, models include:

  231.            HOST APPLICATION PREREQUISITES
  232.            FOR IMAGEPLUS MVS/ESA:

  238.                The user interface for ICPF Indexing Feature has been designed to
  239.                work with either Folder and Workflow Application feature
  240.                Version 2 Release 2 or Folder and Document Management APIs
  241.                feature during document indexing.  In addition, a set of
  242.                Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are provided to allow
  243.                customization of the user interface to support a customer's
  244.                front-end application that returns a TEMPID from the host.

  258.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  259.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  The customer is responsible to ensure
  260.            that documents to be processed conform to system specified
  261.            requirements.
  262.            PACKAGING:  IBM SAA ImagePlus Capture Facility/2 package will contain
  263.            two 3.5 inch diskettes, planning and installation guide, user's
  264.            guide, licensed information booklet, and the IBM Customer Agreement.
  265.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  266.                   The announced program uses the security and auditability
  267.            features of the host OS/2 software.
  268.                   The security and auditability features of the announced
  269.            program are:
  270.            o   User sign-on security in IBM SAA ImagePlus Capture Facility/2
  271.            o   User sign-on security in IBM SAA ImagePlus Folder Application
  272.                Facility MVS/ESA
  273.            o   ICPF logging of return codes and error messages
  274.                   VisualInfo Library Server for OS/2 and VisualInfo Object
  275.            Server for OS/2 use the security and auditability features of the
  276.            OS/2 Operating System.
  277.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  278.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  279.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  280.            facilities.
  281. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  282.            CURRENT LICENSEES
  283.            Current licensees of ICPF Version 1.1 will be sent a program reorder
  284.            form which may be returned directly to IBM Software Manufacturing
  285.            Company.  The mailing of these reorder forms is scheduled to be
  286.            completed by January 13, 1995 -- 2 weeks after planned availability.
  287.            Reorder forms returned to IBM Software Manufacturing Company will be
  288.            processed within 10 work days of receipt.
  289.            NEW LICENSEES:
  290.            Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.  Shipment will commence
  291.            on the planned availability date.  Orders entered with a scheduled
  292.            shipment date prior to the planned availability date will be shipped
  293.            IBM SAA ImagePlus Capture Facility/2 Version 1.1.
  294.                   Orders entered with a scheduled shipment date after
  295.            availability will be shipped ICPF Version 1.1.1.  Unless a later date
  296.            is specified, an order is scheduled for the week following order
  297.            entry.
  298.                   For new licensees of IBM SAA ImagePlus Capture Facility/2,
  299.            ordering information has not changed from the previous announcement.

  306.            3.5 inch diskette).  Specify the feature number of the desired
  307.            distribution medium shown below.

  375.                   IBM provides documentation in softcopy on CD-ROM.  The IBM SAA
  376.            ImagePlus Collection Kit CD-ROM (SK2T-2131) contains books,
  377.            bookshelves, and book search indexes for selected IBM SAA ImagePlus
  378.            products.  Books available on the CD-ROM include product libraries
  379.            for selected ImagePlus AS/400 (R) platform products, ImagePlus
  380.            MVS/ESA platform products, and ImagePlus workstation products.
  381.                   All unlicensed publications for ICPF are included on the
  382.            CD-ROM.
  383.                   One no-charge copy of the collection kit in US English is
  384.            available with the ICPF product.  To obtain the no-charge copy, order
  385.            feature number 7020.
  386.                   Additional copies of the IBM SAA ImagePlus Collection Kit
  387.            CD-ROM are available for a fee using:

  408.                   SOURCE FILE PUBLICATIONS
  409.                   Subsequent updates (technical newsletters or revisions between
  410.            releases) to the publications shipped with the product will be
  411.            distributed to the user of record for as long as a license for this
  412.            software remains in effect.  A separate publication order or
  413.            subscription is not needed.
  414.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  415.                   The terms for ICPF Version 1.1, as previously announced (See
  416.            IBM Software Announcement letter 292-603, dated October 20, 1992),
  417.            licensed under the IBM Customer Agreement are unaffected by this
  418.            announcement.
  419.                   The terms for ICPF Version 1.1 licensed under the IBM Customer
  420.            Agreement are unaffected by this announcement.
