  4. ABSTRACT          FaxRouter/2 Version 2.0 is an "industrial strength" enterprise
  5.            facsimile solution for companies of all sizes.  FaxRouter/2 is a
  6.            local area network (LAN)-based solution that provides the capability
  7.            to send, receive, archive, display, distribute, print, and delete
  8.            facsimiles from a user's OS/2 (R) or Windows (1) workstation.
  9.            Received facsimiles can be automatically routed to a user or group of
  10.            users of the FaxRouter/2 LAN via Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) or
  11.            optical mark recognition (OMR).  Outgoing facsimiles can originate
  12.            from a standard text file, another facsimile, or several types of
  13.            image files.  All hardware required by a facsimile solution is
  14.            installed in the FaxRouter/2 server, thus eliminating the need for
  15.            additional hardware or phone lines at the user's workstation.
  16.                   FaxRouter/2 is fully integrated with ImagePlus VisualInfo (TM)
  17.            allowing incoming facsimiles to be routed directly to designated
  18.            VisualInfo workstations.  In addition, via the FaxRouter/2 ImagePlus
  19.            Integration feature, in-bound and out-bound facsimile support is also
  20.            provided to the MVS/ESA (TM) image platform.
  21.                   FaxRouter/2 Version 2.0 provides the ability to integrate your
  22.            business processes with the use of an OS/2 virtual printer driver.
  23.            Files can be FAXed just by printing from an OS/2 or OS/2-Windows
  24.            application.

  64. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  65.            AUTOMATIC ROUTING
  66.            Received facsimiles can automatically be routed to a user, or a group
  67.            of users of the FaxRouter/2 LAN.  Each FaxRouter/2 user is assigned a
  68.            routing code.  A facsimile received for that routing code will
  69.            generate a notification message to that user.  A default routing code
  70.            can be defined for facsimiles received without routing codes.
  71.            Standard routing codes can be established for "printing and saving"
  72.            or "printing and deleting".  Facsimiles can also be automatically
  73.            routed to an application.  Routing is accomplished via routing exits.
  74.            Routing exits are assigned by user or application ID.  Routing exits
  75.            allow for the flexible integration into existing business
  76.            applications.
  77.            ENABLE CUSTOMER'S SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS:  With the inbound routing
  78.            capability of FaxRouter/2, received facsimiles can be routed directly
  79.            to a user or business application therefore helping to provide the
  80.            ability to handle inquires more quickly and effectively.
  81.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  Automatic routing of received
  82.            facsimiles eliminates the need for a central facsimile receive
  83.            station and a system to distribute the facsimile to the recipient.
  84.            The worker receives notification that a facsimile has arrived and can
  85.            view the facsimile at their workstation without leaving the desk.
  86.            This reduces the processing time, thus helping allow the worker to
  87.            become more efficient.
  88.            DATA INTEGRITY IMPROVEMENTS:  By eliminating the need for paper,
  89.            facsimile documents are not manually distributed.  Many times,
  90.            facsimiles are received back to back.  The process of separating
  91.            facsimiles destined for different people can unintentionally cause a
  92.            facsimile to be distributed to the wrong person or lost.  With the
  93.            use of an automated routing system, facsimiles are always distributed
  94.            directly to the worker.  In the case a routing code was entered
  95.            incorrectly, FaxRouter/2 maintains an audit trail of received
  96.            facsimiles for easy tracking.
  97.            SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS:  The FaxRouter/2 RECEIVE list that a user
  98.            displays will only show facsimiles routed to that user or unrouted
  99.            facsimiles.  A default routing code can be defined by the
  100.            administrator to ensure there will be no unrouted facsimiles.  A user
  101.            can only perform facsimile manipulation functions on facsimiles that
  102.            are displayed in the user's receive list.
  103.            FACSIMILE DISPLAY/MANIPULATION FUNCTIONS
  104.            Facsimiles listed in a user's RECEIVE list can be displayed on the
  105.            user's workstation, thus eliminating the need for paper fax machines.
  106.            Displayed images can be rotated in 90 (degs) increments if they are
  107.            sent landscape.  They can be magnified from 0 to 999% if there are
  108.            unreadable portions of the facsimile.  An overview window is provided
  109.            to give the user a perspective of the viewed facsimile.  A
  110.            customizable tool bar of icons can also be used to help maximize the
  111.            productivity of commonly used functions, including displaying,
  112.            printing, deleting, rotating and magnifying a displayed image.  The
  113.            FaxRouter/2 client software end-user interface complies to the SAA
  114.            CUA 91 standard and supports drag and drop technology.  FaxRouter/2
  115.            also provides a virtual print driver in the OS/2 and Windows
  116.            environments.  A user running an applications in those environments
  117.            can use that application's print function and call the FaxRouter/2
  118.            Print Driver.  The FaxRouter/2 SEND panel will be displayed and the
  119.            facsimile will be scheduled for outbound fax on the server.
  120.            ENABLE CUSTOMER'S SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS:  The ability to immediately
  121.            display and position a facsimile at the user's workstation helps the
  122.            customer to provide fast, quality, and effective service to their
  123.            customers.  Shrinking the cycle time of work tasks can lead to
  124.            improved customer satisfaction with your business.
  125.            INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS:  FaxRouter/2 provides a seamless
  126.            integration with other workstation applications that use the
  127.            operating environment print facilities.  Using a word processor to
  128.            print a document can result in FAXing the document instead.  This
  129.            allows the customer to gain full benefit of FaxRouter/2 while working
  130.            with existing workstation applications.
  131.            REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  FaxRouter/2 eliminates the
  132.            requirement for an office with numerous FAX machines.  Since most
  133.            facsimiles are received and generated electronically, no paper is
  134.            needed to print the facsimile.  All the space and power required to
  135.            operate the paper FAX machines can be applied to other business
  136.            needs.
  137.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  The FaxRouter/2 user can perform their
  138.            tasks without the interruption of walking to a FAX machine to send,
  139.            resend, or receive a facsimile.  The time savings alone can allow for
  140.            an increase in their workload.  Work tasks can be completed in a more
  141.            timely manner without having to wait for an available FAX machine.
  142.            SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS:  FaxRouter/2 maintains electronic images of
  143.            facsimiles that only a user or administrator can process.  Facsimiles
  144.            are treated as confidential documents that will not be left on a desk
  145.            or a FAX machine.  Electronic facsimiles will not be misplaced as is
  146.            the nature with paper documents.
  147.            STRATEGIC ARCHITECTURE-INDUSTRY STANDARDS:  FaxRouter/2 complies with
  148.            the SAA CUA 91 architecture and "drag and drop" specifications of
  149.            workstations in a client/server environment.  Facsimiles received are
  150.            stored in a standard CCITT Group 4 compressed format and placed in an
  151.            IBM standard Mixed Object Document Content Architecture (MO:DCA)
  152.            wrapper.  FaxRouter/2 supports the following input data streams for
  153.            fax-out:  TIFF with No Compression, CCITT Group 3 1-dimensional MH,
  154.            PackBits Compression and CCITT T.4 bi-level.
  155.            FACSIMILE SERVER PROCESSING
  156.            FaxRouter/2 provides the many benefits associated with client/server
  157.            processing.  Behind the scenes processing help free up the user's
  158.            workstation to perform other more critical tasks.  All facsimiles
  159.            both received and ready to send are stored on the FaxRouter/2 server.
  160.            Received facsimiles are stored on the server until the user deletes
  161.            them or they are "programmatically" deleted by an application.
  162.            Facsimiles to be sent are stored on the server until they are
  163.            successfully sent or a user-specified retry limit has been reached.
  164.            The FaxRouter/2 administrator has the ability to define the number of
  165.            retries to be attempted and a minimum period of time between each
  166.            retry.  The status of an outbound facsimile will be sent to the user
  167.            that initiated the facsimile via a notification message.
  168.            Notifications are performed within a FaxRouter/2 notification exit.
  169.            Currently, the local LAN messaging facility is used.  However, an
  170.            installation could perform any type of notification from within this
  171.            exit.  FaxRouter/2 maintains two logs, a RECEIVE log and a SEND log.
  172.            The logs act as a facsimile-solution audit trail and can be viewed by
  173.            each user.  The FaxRouter/2 administrator can establish automated
  174.            procedures for archiving and purging the logs after a given time
  175.            period.
  176.            ENABLE CUSTOMER'S SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS:  Customer satisfaction can be
  177.            achieved when you send a facsimile to a person while talking to them
  178.            on the phone, without leaving your desk.  Other business-related
  179.            functions can be performed at the same time the facsimile is being
  180.            sent.
  181.            INCREASED CAPACITY/PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:  The FaxRouter/2 solution
  182.            can increase your facsimile capacity by sending facsimiles when
  183.            server FAX cards are available.  Multiple FAX cards can improve your
  184.            throughput without requiring manual intervention at a FAX machine.  A
  185.            LAN facsimile solution can require less phone lines than a manual FAX
  186.            machine solution for the same amount of work.
  187.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  The FaxRouter/2 user will not have to
  188.            wait in line for an available FAX machine.  They will not have to try
  189.            again when the recipient's FAX phone number is busy.  They will not
  190.            have to periodically search for their received facsimiles, because
  191.            FaxRouter/2 will notify them of a received facsimile.  FaxRouter/2
  192.            provides a centralized on-line audit trail of received and sent
  193.            facsimiles where a paper log must be printed at each FAX machine in
  194.            the office and manually combined.
  195.            DATA INTEGRITY IMPROVEMENTS:  FaxRouter/2 stores all received and
  196.            ready-to-send facsimiles on the server.  This concept of centrally
  197.            managing your facsimiles helps reduce the unintentional and
  198.            intentional loss of all your facsimiles.
  199.            IMPROVED SYSTEMS AVAILABILITY:  The FaxRouter/2 server provides error
  200.            recovery of all inbound and outbound facsimile queues in case of a
  201.            power failure in your building.  This would allow for reduced
  202.            duration of outages.  Since facsimiles are stored on the FaxRouter/2
  203.            server, a user can view their facsimiles from another workstation
  204.            provided that local LAN security was established.
  205.            APPLICATION PROGRAMMER'S TOOL KIT
  206.            FaxRouter/2 offers a flexible and robust application programming
  207.            interface (API) which allows a customer to integrate, or
  208.            "FAX-enable", their existing business applications.  The programming
  209.            interface allows an application to communicate directly with the
  210.            FaxRouter/2 server, without requiring a client workstation.  With the
  211.            power of OS/2 and the FaxRouter/2 API on the server, FaxRouter/2 can
  212.            integrate with any platform, thus becoming the total enterprise
  213.            facsimile solution for companies of all sizes.
  214.            INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS:  With the use of services
  215.            offerings from IBM and IBM Business Partners, existing business
  216.            applications can be "FAX-enabled" to provide a seamless integration.
  217.            This integration will maintain the common user interface provided by
  218.            the existing application.  Users need only learn how to FAX and not
  219.            an entirely new application.  This helps reduce the time it takes to
  220.            implement new function in existing business systems.
  221.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  By "FAX-enabling" your business
  222.            application, users can reduce the time it takes to print and manually
  223.            FAX a document or letter to their customers.  Using the FaxRouter/2
  224.            API, facsimile function can be integrated directly into your existing
  225.            business systems.  Workers will not have to spend time walking to and
  226.            from a FAX machine.
  227.            APPLICATION DEVELOPER PRODUCTIVITY:  The FaxRouter/2 contains
  228.            strategically placed and well documented APIs and Exits within the
  229.            facsimile solution process.  These well documented, high-level APIs
  230.            will help reduce the time and effort required for an application
  231.            programmer to "FAX-enable" your business systems.
  232.            IMAGEPLUS INTEGRATION
  233.            FaxRouter/2 is an application enabler for ImagePlus VisualInfo.
  234.            Facsimiles can be received and sent from VisualInfo workstations.
  235.            With the use of routing codes, inbound facsimiles can be
  236.            automatically placed in ImagePlus VisualInfo workbaskets ready for
  237.            processing.  VisualInfo and FaxRouter/2 are also fully integrated for
  238.            outbound FAX operation.  Outbound transmissions of documents stored
  239.            in the VisualInfo library is initiated when a FAX menu option is
  240.            selected from the VisualInfo client application.  This invokes the
  241.            FaxRouter/2 client Send API to FAX the document.  The client Send API
  242.            supports single- and multiple-document sends.
  243.                   FaxRouter/2 also provides inbound and outbound facsimile
  244.            support for ImagePlus MVS/ESA, including ImagePlus Object
  245.            Distribution Manager/2.  Through an optional feature, FaxRouter/2
  246.            will integrate with ImagePlus Folder Application Facility to provide
  247.            a turnkey facsimile solution for ImagePlus users.  An application
  248.            programming interface (API) is supplied with the feature for
  249.            customers that have built their own front-end image application.
  250.            These APIs are supported in the CICS and IMS environments.
  251.            ENABLE CUSTOMER'S SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS:  By integrating FaxRouter/2,
  252.            ImagePlus VisualInfo and ImagePlus MVS/ESA, workers can be more
  253.            responsive to their customers, thus helping create a higher level of
  254.            customer satisfaction.  The immediate access to a customer's file and
  255.            the associated image documents is a major step toward handling your
  256.            customer inquiries faster, and more efficiently, but to include the
  257.            capability to immediately FAX a document from the image system places
  258.            customer service on a higher level.
  259.            INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS:  FaxRouter/2 provides the inbound
  260.            and outbound integration of a facsimile solution into the image
  261.            environment.  This allows users of the image system to receive and
  262.            send facsimiles directly from their image workstations, eliminating
  263.            the time required to print and manually FAX the document.
  264.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY:  ImagePlus users spend less time
  265.            printing and FAXing and more time performing work tasks with the
  266.            integration of FaxRouter/2, ImagePlus VisualInfo and ImagePlus

  269.            high-level set of APIs which enable FAX integration into customer's

  273.            well as host based applications.  FaxRouter/2 utilizes these APIs to
  274.            provide turnkey integration with ImagePlus VisualInfo.
  275.                   With the FaxRouter/2 ImagePlus MVS/ESA Integration Feature,
  276.            FaxRouter/2 also utilizes these APIs to provide turnkey integration
  277.            with ImagePlus Folder Application Facility.  Additional APIs are
  278.            provided with the feature for customers that have built their own
  279.            front-end image application.  These APIs are supported in the CICS
  280.            and IMS environments.
  281.            DATA INTEGRITY IMPROVEMENTS:  Integration with ImagePlus VisualInfo
  282.            and ImagePlus MVS/ESA eliminates the requirement for printing the
  283.            image system document and manually FAXing it to a customer.  Since
  284.            all documents are maintained as electronic images and never touched
  285.            by human hands, the documents are not lost when retries are required.
  286.            An audit trail of all documents received or sent is maintained by
  287.            FaxRouter/2.
  288.            STRATEGIC ARCHITECTURE-INDUSTRY STANDARDS:  Received facsimiles are
  289.            stored as CCITT Group 4 compress images and placed in a MODCA
  290.            wrapper.  These documents follow all the IBM MODCA IS1 and IS2
  291.            standards in compliance with the ImagePlus architecture.

  410.            Feature, the ImagePlus VisualInfo product set, softcopy publications,
  411.            "as-is" tools, and complementary IBM products.  All language versions
  412.            will be distributed on the same CD-ROM.  Products will be locked on
  413.            the CD-ROM.  An access key will be required to remove a locked item
  414.            from the CD-ROM.  Access keys can be obtained from IBM Registration
  415.            Center.  Access keys are not required for diskette media.
  416.                   The CD-ROM will be available worldwide.  This enables easy
  417.            access to all languages in every country.  Customers may select the
  418.            language in which they want to view the information on the CD-ROM.
  419.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  420.                   FaxRouter/2 uses the security and auditability features of the
  421.            OS/2 workstation and LAN.
  422.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  423.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  424.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  425.            facilities.
  426. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  427.                   Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.  Unless a later
  428.            date is specified, orders entered prior to the planned availability
  429.            date will be assigned a schedule date of June 3, 1994.  Shipment of
  430.            orders will commence on the availability date.  Orders entered after
  431.            the planned availability date will be scheduled for shipment on the
  432.            Friday following the week of order entry or as soon thereafter as
  433.            supply permits.
  434.                   FaxRouter/2 requires a server package as well as a client
  435.            package.  When ordering a server program package on CD-ROM, a
  436.            one-time charge feature number for the server package and for the
  437.            desired client platform (OS/2 or Windows) must be specified in
  438.            addition to media feature number 5200.  If ImagePlus MVS/ESA
  439.            Integration is desired, specify the applicable one-time charge
  440.            feature number.  To access a client platform or the ImagePlus MVS/ESA
  441.            Integration Feature, an access key must be obtained from the IBM
  442.            Registration Center after placing an order for the applicable
  443.            one-time charge feature number.  See IBM Registration Center
  444.            Information below.
  445.                   Upgrades from FaxRouter/2 Version 1 to FaxRouter/2 Version 2
  446.            and from ImagePlus MVS/ESA Integration Feature Version 1 to ImagePlus
  447.            MVS/ESA Integration Feature Version 2 are available only on 3.5-inch
  448.            diskette.
  449.                   The FaxRouter/2 no-charge upgrade from Version 1 to Version 2
  450.            includes both the server package and the OS/2 client package.  To
  451.            order this upgrade for the OS/2 environment, specify asset
  452.            registration feature number 9001, one-time charge feature number
  453.            0404, and media feature number 5845.  If Client for Windows is
  454.            desired with this upgrade, specify one-time charge feature number
  455.            0401 and media feature number 5815.  If ImagePlus MVS/ESA Integration

  542.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  543.            LICENSING:  The program in this announcement is licensed under the
  544.            terms and conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement.  A copy of
  545.            the agreement is included in the program package.  FaxRouter/2 V2
  546.            consists of two components.  The first component operates in the
  547.            Server.  The second component is required to be resident in the
  548.            client and can be downloaded to the clients that are attached to the
  549.            local area network.  The server component, OS/2 client component and
