  4. TITLE      IBM BOOKMANAGER BUILD/2 VERSION 1.2 NOW AVAILABLE

  6. ABSTRACT          This announcement provides the General Availability date for
  7.            the IBM BookManager (R) BUILD/2 Version 1.2 licensed program
  8.            announced on September 22, 1992.  BookManager BUILD/2 provides the
  9.            capability of creating softcopy books from WordPerfect (1), Microsoft
  10.            Word (2), and ASCII files on a PS/2 (R) with OS/2 (R) Version 2.1
  11.            installed.  Softcopy created with IBM BookManager BUILD/2 can be
  12.            viewed with Release 2, or higher, levels of BookManager READ/2,
  13.            READ/DOS, READ/6000, READ/MVS, and READ/VM.  With the introduction of
  14.            this product, BUILD/2 can be combined with READ/2 to provide
  15.            comprehensive softcopy publishing on a personal workstation.
  16.                   BUILD/2 is a new product, announced as Version 1.2 to be
  17.            consistent with other products in the BookManager family.

  46.            DISPLAYABLE SOFTCOPY PUBLICATIONS:  IBM BookManager BUILD/2 manuals
  47.            (with the exception of the BUILD/2 LICENSE INFORMATION) are offered
  48.            in displayable softcopy form.  Unlicensed manuals are included.  The
  49.            displayable manuals are part of the basic machine-readable material.
  50.            The files are shipped on the same media type as the basic
  51.            machine-readable material.  It is recommended that users have either
  52.            a BookManager READ licensed program or the BookManager Library Reader
  53.            (TM)/DOS or Library Reader/2 products to read the softcopy format.

  65.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:
  66.            o   IBM Personal System/2 (R), Model 35SX-386 or greater, or any IBM
  67.                compatible machine that has been certified by IBM to run OS/2
  68.                Version 2.1
  69.            o   4.0MB memory in addition to the memory required for OS/2
  70.            o   Fixed disk with 20MB in addition to the disk space required for
  71.                OS/2
  72.            o   IBM Video Graphics Adapter for the PS/2, IBM PS/2 8514/A Display
  73.                Adapter, or any OS/2 Version 2 compatible display

  75.            PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:  IBM Operating System/2 (R) Version 2.1
  76.            (61G0900).
  77.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  It is recommended that users familiarize
  78.            themselves with the memory requirements of individual word processor
  79.            software products (for example, WordPerfect requires 25MB to
  80.            install).  Additionally, they should recognize that object complexity
  81.            of their documents (for example, imbedded graphics, tables,
  82.            spreadsheets) directly affects product performance.
  83.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  84.            APPLICATION SUPPORT:  Technical assistance (questions related to
  85.            installing or operating) for BookManager BUILD/2 in the specified
  86.            environment, is available to all licensed users for a period of 90
  87.            days following the date of delivery to the customer by IBM, but not
  88.            later than March 31, 1996.  The support telephone number is
  89.            800-237-5511.  Calls may be placed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  90.            IBM responds on a call-back basis between 9:00 a.m.  and 7:00 p.m.
  91.            Eastern time, Monday through Friday (except IBM holidays).
  92.                   ServiceLink and SupportLink, within IBMLink (TM), may also be
  93.            available during this 90-day period.  These links provide the ability
  94.            to search product information and defect databases, report defects,
  95.            order defect corrections, and ask questions related to installing or
  96.            operating this application.  Contact your local office for more
  97.            information.
  98.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  To optimize product performance,
  99.            customers should familiarize themselves with the memory requirements
  100.            of individual word processor software products (for example,
  101.            WordPerfect requires 25MB to install).  Additionally, they should
  102.            recognize that object complexity of their document (for example,
  103.            imbedded graphics, tables, spreadsheets) directly affects product

  120. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  121.                   Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.  Unless a later
  122.            date is specified, orders entered prior to the planned availability
  123.            date will be assigned a scheduled ship date of December 31, 1993.
  124.            Shipment of orders will commence on the availability date.  Orders
  125.            entered after the planned availability date will be scheduled for
  126.            shipment on the Friday following the week of order entry or as soon
  127.            thereafter as supply permits.

  148.            At general availability, requests for PRPQs will be accepted for IBM
  149.            Dictionaries in the following languages: Danish, Dutch, French,
  150.            Canadian French, German, Swiss German, Italian, Norwegian,

  153.            o   Additional License Copies -- authorization  for the customer who
  154.                has a program package to make a single copy of the program
  155.                diskette and documentation.  There are two ways to receive
  156.                authorization to copy.  Receipt of the invoice authorizes the
  157.                customer to make the Additional License Copy (the ICA must be in
  158.                effect).  The customer also has the option of ordering a Proof of
  159.                Additional License certificate, in which case, the ICA is not
  160.                required.
  161.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  162.                   Terms and conditions are unaffected by this announcement
  163.            except for the following.
  164.            PROGRAM SERVICES:  IBM Software Solutions (SWS) BookManager Customer
  165.            Service will provide direct customer defect support to all licensed
  166.            users until March 31, 1996.
