  6. ABSTRACT          NetView (R) Network Planner/2 is an OS/2 (R)-based application
  7.            with two primary values:
  8.            o   A planning tool for networks, systems and the resources within
  9.                them
  10.                -   Describe software, equipment, features, locations, persons
  11.                    and financials
  12.                -   Create networks, domains, resources, aggregates and views
  13.                -   Drag and drop graphical user interface.
  14.            o   A file generator that can be used to load the NetView Resource
  15.                Object Data Manager (RODM).
  16.                -   Create relationships needed by RODM
  17.                -   Import, generation and browsing tool for RODM load file.
  18.                   NetView Network Planner/2 is a graphical, OS/2-based
  19.            application that provides enterprise-wide data management for
  20.            configuration resources.  NetView Network Planner/2 provides
  21.            inventory and asset planning, management capabilities and displays
  22.            views of configuration elements from one central location.
  23.                   The NetView Network Planner/2 is SQL based.  The scope of the
  24.            database includes hardware and software from large and mid-range host
  25.            systems to wide-area networks (including circuit data) and local area
  26.            networks. Asset information such as contract, location, lease,
  27.            organization and capital expense data is supported.
  28.                   Using Distributed Data Connection Services (DDCS/2) product,
  29.            the configuration database can physically reside on other platforms
  30.            including MVS (DB2 (R)) or VM (SQL/DS (TM)) while logically appearing
  31.            as a resource at the workstation.

  45.                   FIRST CUSTOMER SHIPMENT of NetView Network Planner/2 to a
  46.            selected set of customers will be by December 31, 1993.  These
  47.            customers will participate in a program designed to validate that IBM
  48.            has achieved the quality objectives for NetView Network Planner/2 in
  49.            a variety of production environments.  When these customers confirm
  50.            that IBM has achieved its quality objectives, IBM will announce
  51.            availability and ordering information.

  53. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  54.            ACCESS TO ENTERPRISE DATA
  55.            By utilizing DB2 and DDCS/2, enterprise-wide asset information for
  56.            configuration resources is available across the enterprise.
  57.            SYSTEM PROGRAMMER PRODUCTIVITY
  58.            NetView Network Planner/2 collects the data needed by the NetView
  59.            Graphic Monitor Facility (NGMF) in NetView Version 2 Release 3.  A
  60.            load file can be generated to load the RODM data cache (the Graphic
  61.            Monitor Facility Host Subsystem (GMFHS) data model).  The load file
  62.            browser can be used to browse a RODM load file.  The load file
  63.            importer can be used to create objects in NetView Network Planner/2
  64.            from those defined in a RODM load file.
  65.                   Productivity is improved by a graphical, user friendly
  66.            interface that conforms to CUA (TM)'91 and eliminates the entering of
  67.            redundant data. Systems management and data integrity are improved by
  68.            having asset inventory data in one place.
  69.                   With the availability version, support for the Advanced
  70.            Peer-to-Peer Networking (TM) Topology and Accounting feature
  71.            (APPNTAM) of NetView and IBM NetView MultiSystem Manager MVS/ESA (TM)
  72.            will provide the ability to add dynamically discovered data to the
  73.            database.  In addition, problem/change management capabilities are
  74.            improved by mapping NetView Network Planner/2  resources to Trouble
  75.            Ticket/6000.
  76.            ENABLING NEW APPLICATIONS
  77.            NetView Network Planner/2 enables new applications such as asset
  78.            tracking and network planning.  With a relational database, the
  79.            customer can easily construct SQL applications to generate original
  80.            reports as well as export data to existing applications.
  81.            CENTRALIZED CONTROL
  82.            NetView Network Planner/2  provides a network administrator with the
  83.            means to generate an illustration of a network so that the elements
  84.            of the network can be more easily managed from one central location.
  85.                   With the availability version, the product will support
  86.            multiple users, providing a centralized database.
  87.            APPLICATION DEVELOPER PRODUCTIVITY
  88.            By basing NetView Network Planner/2 on SQL, application developers
  89.            have a standard, well known interface for implementing applications.
  90.            INDUSTRY STANDARDS
  91.            NetView Network Planner/2 is CUA'91 compliant and has a user
  92.            interface that conforms to SystemView (R) Integration Level 2.
  93.            USER FRIENDLY INTERFACE
  94.            By utilizing the graphical user interface, NetView Network Planner/2
  95.            brings a friendly end-user interface to describing network objects.
  96.            Users can easily define, store and manipulate information about
  97.            network and system resources.  In addition, NetView Version 2
  98.            Release 3 supports an interface with NetView Network Planner/2 to
  99.            retrieve and view administrative information.  There are also
  100.            facilities to generate, import and browse RODM load files.
  101.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  102.            The NetView Network Planner/2 is the first step in enterprise
  103.            configuration management in a client/server environment.  The first
  104.            implementation is on an OS/2 client.  The initial application
  105.            available for this configuration data is the creation of input for
  106.            the NetView RODM.  NetView Network Planner/2 includes support for
  107.            objects used by the Graphic Monitor Facility Host Subsystem (GMFHS)
  108.            feature of NetView Version 2 Release 3, NetView Version 2 Release 4,
  109.            the Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking Topology and Accounting
  110.            Management (APPNTAM) feature of NetView Version 2 Release 4, and the
  111.            managed objects of the NetView MultiSystem Manager application.
  112.                   NetView Network Planner/2 is based on the same data model as
  113.            the IBM Network Configuration Application/MVS and can be used in
  114.            customer establishments that have a requirement for
  115.            non-Information/Management-based configuration management and loading
  116.            of the NetView RODM.
  117.                   The following positions NetView Network Planner/2 with some
  118.            other recently announced products:
  119.            o   Network Design and Analysis/2 designs topology and routing for
  120.                SNA networks. NetView Network Planner/2 tracks inventory and
  121.                configuration data for the enterprise and links this to the
  122.                operational data used by NetView.
  123.            o   LAN NetView Scan is designed to add the need for dynamic
  124.                configuration and inventory management of remote workstations.
  125.                NetView Network Planner/2 is designed to be an administrative
  126.                database for enterprise-wide configuration and inventory.

  137.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:
  138.            o   IBM or IBM compatible 80486 50MHz processor or above workstations
  139.                that support OS/2 as their base operating system
  140.            o   Fixed disk with a minimum of 4.5MB to install the program
  141.            o   A minimum of 12MB of memory, 16MB is recommended for better
  142.                performance.

  144.            PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:

  146.            o   The Database Manager component of Extended Services (TM)
  147.            o   File transfer program (when generating RODM load files one needs

  157.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  158.                   NetView Network Planner/2 uses the security and auditability
  159.            features of the OS/2 operating system.
  160.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
  161.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
  162.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  163.            facilities.
  164. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  165.                   Ordering information will be provided when the availability
  166.            date is announced.
  167.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  168.            LICENSING:  NetView Network Planner/2 is licensed under the terms and
  169.            conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement.  A copy of the
  170.            agreement is included in the program package.
  171.            LIMITED WARRANTY:  Program:  Yes.  Media:  Three months.
  172.            PROGRAM SERVICES:  Central Service, including the IBM Support Center,
  173.            will be available during the first 12 months following the date of
  174.            delivery to the customer by IBM, but not later than
  175.            December 29, 1995.  The statement of service included in the program
  176.            package describes this service.
  177.            TESTING PERIOD:  Two months for program packages.
  178.                   IBM Customer Agreement (ICA) must be in effect.
  179.            NATIONAL EDUCATION LICENSE FEE:  A National Education License Fee
  180.            (NELF) is available under the terms and conditions of the Education
  181.            Allowance Attachment.  The NELF, which represents a 15% discount off
  182.            the single unit price, is not subject to any further discount or
  183.            allowance.
