TITLE IBM TIME AND PLACE/2 VERSION 2.0
ABSTRACT IBM Time and Place/2 Version 2.0 (79G9867) is an OS/2 (R) 2.0
or 2.1 LAN-based time management program for coordination and
scheduling of activities. Time and Place/2 gives the user control
over events, "to-do's" and memos.
Time and Place/2 is differentiated in particular by its group
scheduling functions and its capability (when used with Time and
Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2) to interoperate and exchange data
with OfficeVision/VM (TM), PROFS (R) or OfficeVision/MVS (TM). Host
and LAN users can view each other's calendars in native format,
eliminating the need to retrain or to be aware of the location of
other systems.
In addition to Time and Place/2 Version 1 functions, Time and
Place/2 Version 2 provides the following enhancements:
o DOS client
o TCP/IP support
o Directory synchronization with Lotus (1) Notes and cc:Mail (2)
o Disconnected user
o Dial-in support
o Simple calendaring interface APIs
o Usability enhancements
- Mini icon
- Save color/font/window position
- Change notification
- Conflict resolution
- Drag and drop
- Group view
- Print specified number of days
- Print graphical weekly, monthly and trifold
- Tool bar
o Performance enhancements.
Customers who have acquired Time and Place/2 Version 1 will be
given a limited opportunity to upgrade to Time and Place/2
Version 2.0 at no additional charge. Details will be provided at
planned availability of Time and Place/2 Version 2.0.
Statement of General Direction: IBM intends to provide the
following functions in Time and Place/2:
o Support for Novell (3) NetWare (3) IPX/SPX communications
o Support for Apple (4) Macintosh (4) clients.
First Customer Shipment: By December 17, 1993, to a selected
set of customers. These customers will participate in a program
designed to validate IBM's achievement of the quality objectives for
IBM Time and Place/2 Version 2.0 in a variety of production
environments. When these customers confirm that IBM has achieved its
quality objectives, IBM will announce the planned availability date
and ordering information.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
UPGRADEABILITY IMPROVEMENTS
IBM Time and Place/2 Version 2.0 introduces the following new
functions:
o DOS client
Users of DOS 3.3, or later, will be able to run a Time and
Place/2 client.
o TCP/IP support
Time and Place/2 Version 2 supports the use of TCP/IP as
well as NETBIOS. A single Time and Place/2 server will need to
be either all TCP/IP or all NETBIOS.
o Directory synchronization with Lotus Notes and cc:Mail
Time and Place/2 Version 2.0 provides a utility that
allows administrators to interactively migrate users, IDs from
the Lotus Notes and cc:Mail directories to the Time and Place/2
Version 2 directory, and to automatically synchronize the two
directories afterwards.
The synchronization utility uses fields from the source
directory to provide a one-way synchronization from the Lotus
Notes or cc:Mail directory to the Time and Place/2 Version 2
directory.
o Disconnected user
This function enables the user to disconnect from the LAN
and use the calendar in stand-alone mode. When the user
reconnects to the LAN, the calendar data will be re-synchronized
with the data currently stored in the database.
o Dial-in support
This capability is provided by the IBM LAN Distance family
of products. A Time and Place/2 OS/2 client with LAN Distance
Remote installed dials via modem to LAN Distance Connection
Server. This connection makes the Time and Place/2 client appear
as a local workstation to the Time and Place/2 server.
o Simple calendaring interface APIs
A set of documented APIs allows a customer or independent
software vendor to develop client applications that can access
the Time and Place/2 Version 2 database.
IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY
Time and Place/2 Version 2 contains the following usability
enhancements:
o Mini icon
The minimized icon is changed when notifications come in
while the calendar is minimized. This function is only available
in the OS/2 client.
o Save color/font/window position
Colors can be changed by dragging a color from the
OS/2 palette and dropping it on an area in the calendar. A user
can change the fonts for the calendar by dragging a font from the
system fonts to the calendar and dropping it. Window position
saving also includes saving whether or not the window was
minimized, restored or maximized before it was closed. This
function is only available in the OS/2 client.
o Change notification
If the date, start time or stop time is updated for a
group event or "to-do," the event/"to-do" is reset to "pending"
for all previously confirmed or rejected invitees/participants.
o Conflict resolution
There are two types of conflict resolution -- one occurs
during event confirmation and the other occurs during event
creation. When a pending event is confirmed, the time slot is
checked for a conflict. The second type of conflict resolution
happens when a user presses OK during event creation.
o Drag and drop
The user can use drag and drop as a way to copy or move
events or "to-do's" within the calendar, among calendars, or
between Time and Place/2 and other products. The Windows client
drag/drop will only be intra calendar.
The OS/2 client can also:
- Drag and drop an event or "to-do" to the shredder to discard
it
- Drag and drop an event or "to-do" to the printer to print
that single event
- Drag and drop an event or "to-do" on a text editor that
participates in drag/drop conversations.
o Group view
This function provides an additional view that gives a
busy-bar view of a group of users, similar to the free time
search results.
o Print specified number of days
Print "n" number of days allows the user to choose the
start date and then select the number of days to print. The
printout will appear in the weekly print format.
o Print graphical weekly, monthly and trifold
o Tool bar.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
Time and Place/2 is a LAN-based client/server group scheduling
program. Time and Place/2 Version 2 extends Time and Place/2
Version 1 to include additional user functional, usability and
performance enhancements.
Time and Place/2 gives the customer a choice by providing
multi-platform clients and networking protocols. Time and Place/2
allows users to schedule events, "to-do's", and resources using a
graphical interface in an OS/2, Windows or DOS environment. Users
may install either NETBIOS or TCP/IP. Time and Place/2 supports
gradual host-to-LAN migrations by allowing users to coexist and to
interoperate across both environments by way of Time and Place
Connectivity/2 Version 1.
Time and Place/2 is differentiated in particular by its group
scheduling functions and its capability (when used with Time and
Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2) to interoperate and exchange data
with OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS. Host and LAN users
can view each other's calendars in native format, eliminating the
need to retrain or to be aware of the location of other systems.
Time and Place/2 is designed to provide security and administration
comparable to OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS in an
efficient client/server environment.
Time and Place/2 supports customer investment in today's
technologies including OS/2 LAN, 32-bit personal computers, mail
gateways, LAN E-Mail and host office.
STATEMENT OF GENERAL DIRECTION
IBM intends to provide the following functions in Time and Place/2:
o Support for Novell NetWare IPX/SPX communications
o Support for Apple Macintosh clients.
